The stunning 28-storey building, which is 145 metres above ground, is designed to include cutting-edge trading floors on three levels. A large slip form core forms a significant part of the fully fitted-out building which has achieved an ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM rating, making it one of the most sustainable and desirable buildings of its type in London. Designed by globally-renowned architects, Kohn Pederson Fox Associates (KPF) in conjunction with structural engineers, Arup, 1 Bank Street provides capacity for 6,000 full-time equivalent jobs, enhancing the role of Canary Wharf as a prime London office and employment location.
9-11 Richmond Buildings

Owing to its congested built environment, almost any construction project in London requires working within tight physical constraints at the best of times, but the logistical restrictions at 9-11 Richmond Buildings in Soho, London, were exceptionally challenging.Situated immediately adjacent to The Soho Hotel in a district of Westminster, the tightly bounded site required the replacement of an existing building, the deepening of a basement and the creation of a new seven-storey, composite-framed building.
Aberdeen Railway Station, Scotland

Aberdeen Railway Station is the UK’s busiest station north of Edinburgh and Glasgow and is listed is listed as ‘Category A’ by Historic Environment Scotland. The station building has a glazed canopy roof, which needed a full upgrade. Bank Station Capacity Upgrade, London - Watertight Concrete

Built in 1900, London’s Bank Station provides access to the Central, Northern, DLR, Waterloo and City lines and is one of the world’s most complicated subterranean stations.The expansive Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BSCU) programme, commissioned by London Underground, will increase capacity by 40 per cent. In addition, it will improve access, decrease crowding and generally deliver a modern public transport facility with better ambience.Whilst the BSCU scheme as a whole incorporated a wide range of elements – new entrance, three ticket halls, six lifts, 10 platforms, two 94m travelators and a 570m tunnel & platform for Northern Line – Sika’s involvement was on the whole block site.

Sika supplied the waterproof solution to eliminate the threat of water ingress at an underground car park which houses a fleet of luxury cars.The car park, situated in Camden, North London, was subject to lateral moisture ingress due to ground water. It was decided to waterproof the affected area to safeguard a number of expensive cars regularly parked in a nearby designated bay.

Castlemead is a social housing block in the London Borough of Southwark, located in the busy Camberwell Road area. The vacant building was undergoing an internal refurbishment project, delivered by fit out specialist, Paragon, and as part of these works the main contractor brought in roofing specialist, Hambro Roofing, to carry out some repairs to the existing felt roof. It quickly became apparent that the existing roof surface had reached the end of its service life and actually required a full refurbishment.
Christ Church URC, Chelmsford

Christ Church URC in Chelmsford, Essex provides a hub for the whole community, hosting mother and toddler groups, social meetings and youth based events as well as traditional religious services. The church’s brick-clad structure includes exposed concrete columns which were showing signs of deterioration due to carbonation together with other factors causing the steel reinforcement to corrode and the surface to crack and spall, leaving the reinforcement bar exposed in areas.Sika supplied the long-term concrete repair and protection solution for a church façade which had displayed signs of deterioration due to long-term exposure to air pollutants.

In July 2021, construction began on 242 new homes on land to the east of Coldean Lane, Brighton, bringing new affordable options to the area.A mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats in six blocks of five to seven storeys were detailed as part of the plans and made best use of the sloping 3.3-hectare site in which the development was to be situated.PMC Construction were contracted to undertake the works and through the project’s architects, HGP Architects, Sika was called upon to provide a waterproofing solution for the flats.

Gateshead Leisure Centre Tyne and Wear, UK

Following decades of usage, the Gateshead Leisure Centre, Tyne and Wear, was suffering from age. To repair its badly leaking pool and restore the entire facility to its former glory, it was shut for a year so that a multi-million pound refurbishment scheme could be completed.The scheme, delivered by main contractor Willmott Dixon as part of a design and build contract with Gateshead Council, forms part of the Building an Active Future Programme (BaAF). The programme, which involves investing £36 million, is part of a plan to improve the health of residents in the town by 2030.
Gatwick Station Platforms 5-7 Upgrades

The UK’s second busiest airport, Gatwick Airport, is also home to a rail station which handles in excess of 20 million passengers annually – making it one of the 10 busiest stations in the UK outside of London.Network Rail are currently managing a redevelopment project at Gatwick station, which is being delivered by Costain. Part of this project is a new concourse for the station.The redevelopment of the station includes improvement works to create a larger, more accessible interchange between the station and airport. As part of the upgrades to platforms 5-7, Costain worked with Sika waterproofing products and Hanson for the concrete mix to ensure the rebuild was robust and would offer significant longevity.

In 2010, Protech where approached by The Clegg Group for a renovation project of an eight storey 1930’s building.Originally known as Shaftesbury House, the building was opened in 1938 to house migrant workers in Leeds that had previously been living in appalling conditions. The development had deteriorated and was eventually closed and boarded up in 1998. As part of a regeneration programme of the area, Leeds City Council co ordinated the redevelopment of the site into what is now known as Greenhouse, a mixed-use block of eco-flats. A previous client of Renderseal Ltd – who had works undertaken on his home in Hampstead in 2013 – requested help recently with further works at the same property.Due to a defective external drain problem, water ingress had occurred in the client’s rear bedroom in addition to damp staining and paint blistering in the side entrance hall.Familiar with Renderseal Ltd’s expertise, the homeowner returned to the waterproofing specialist for help. Providing its services throughout London and the Home Counties, Renderseal Ltd’s plan was to install a Sika waterproofing system that would combat the issues created by the home’s defective drain.
Live Active Leisure, Perth

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, the iconic Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth, one of Scotland’s largest sports facilities, needed a new roof to protect the important building. With the previous roof membrane nearing 30 years old and in a state of disrepair due to the challenging Scottish weather, the centre needed a long-term and robust roofing solution.Planned by Perth and Kinross Council’s arms-length body Live Active Leisure, the £700,000 project also aimed to improve insulation and ventilation in order to enhance the venue’s environmental performance and efficiency. London Power Tunnels - Concrete for Tunnelling

Following a successful first phase in 2018, London Power Tunnels 2 (LPT2) is a project to ‘rewire’ south London. The six-year, £1bn scheme will comprise the construction of 32.5km of 3m-diameter tunnels built deep below the road network between Wimbledon and Crayford to carry high voltage electricity cables.A Hochtief-Murphy Joint Venture (HMJV) was awarded the contract in December 2019 to design and construct the tunnels & shafts and install the EHV (extra-high volume) cable brackets. The New Cross site is one of several in the overall scheme.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is transforming Marketfield Way, Redhill, with a brand-new leisure, retail and residential development. The 0.59-hectare site will turn the western side of Marketfield Way into a vibrant destination for both property seekers and visitors to the local area. It is made up of the Council’s former Marketfield Way surface car park and a group of retail and commercial buildings fronting 18-44 High Street.Features of the scheme include:A new multi-screen cinema hosting 7 screens11 new units for restaurants and shops on the ground and first floors150 new one- and two-bedroom homes to be privately rented within buildings up to thirteen storeys in heightLandscaping and public space improvements including a ‘galleria’ pedestrian route through the site flanked by shops and restaurants.The waterproofing and gas proofing of the new mixed use scheme basement area and ground floor was a crucial element of phase 2 of the project. Oxford Biochemistry – Phase Two

Park House Stables, Kingsclere, is home to some of Britain’s most famous racehorses. Boasting a rich history for training the best in the sport, the stables are also home to licensed trainer, Andrew Balding and his family.Situated in Newbury, Berkshire, the stables recently replaced an existing gravel track with a 500-meter-long, four-meter-wide, structurally-sound concrete access road.Sika was called upon for this project, working alongside Kendalls Newbury (part of Aggregate Industries) to provide a suitable solution for contractor, L J Morrissey Contracts Ltd.
Portland Primary School

Part of the Co-op Academies Trust since 2018, Portland School in Birkenhead is a primary school for children aged 3-11. Attended by Everton and England footballing legend of the 1920s and 30s, Dixie Dean, the main school building has had many additions over time, resulting in a roof with 24 roof areas at varying levels and with various roof build-ups. The whole of this 1600 m² roof was in need of refurbishment as part of a programme of maintenance and upgrades following the school’s transition to academy status.

To repair the deteriorating riverbed was a specialist one which made both local and national news.Situated in Carlisle, Cumbria, the River Eden railway viaduct recently required an urgent repair solution to the deteriorating riverbed condition, where trains were having to operate at reduced speeds of 20mph over the Victorian and 1940s-built structures.Detailed laser surveys carried out by Network Rail showed fast flowing water on the River Eden had caused parts of the riverbed to wash away, posing a risk to the viaduct foundations.
