Construction Specialties (CS) contributed to the refurbishment of the Wellesley Ward at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability (RHN), which supports adults with brain injuries. The hospital aimed to enhance the ward’s design and durability as part of a £1.5 million fundraising effort. To protect the doors in high-traffic areas, CS supplied Acrovyn door protection, including push plates, kick plates, and replaceable door edge protectors suitable for fire-rated doors. These were supplied in uplifting colours – Golden Yellow, Anise, and Aqua Blue – to improve aesthetics. The Acrovyn solutions offer a long-lasting, hygienic option that withstands impact while enhancing the ward’s appearance.

The SuRNICC unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital provides care for premature and sick newborn babies. The design follows the latest neonatal healthcare standards and principles of family-centred care. In clinical areas the Acrovyn impact protection range was specified. Graphics depicting trees and butterflies, incorporated into Acrovyn by Design, were fitted in cot rooms, waiting and play areas, to brighten the environment. Acrovyn Sheet was used on door faces and frames, whilst HRB-4C hand/crash rails and corner guards protect corridor walls from impact damage. The comprehensive wall protection scheme ensures the interior remains attractive, damage free and easy to maintain.

CS provided a comprehensive wall protection package for the King Edward Building, Bristol Royal Infirmary. The scheme included: impact resistant, textured Acrovyn Sheet, a range of Acrovyn Corner Protectors in circulation areas, and Acrovyn bed head protectors in the hospital’s wards. In addition, custom printed Acrovyn by Design wall mural was installed at the entrance to a new multi-faith sanctuary space. Durable Acrovyn products will protect the facility from the effects of impact damage and wear & tear, ensuring the interior is easy to clean and maintain for years to come.

The £15 million redevelopment of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s Accident & Emergency (A&E) department delivers a modern, patient-centred facility featuring private resuscitation bays, children’s areas, advanced x-ray rooms, and a dedicated bereavement suite. In adult areas, Acrovyn Sheet in Snow White was installed with HRB-20 hand/crash rails for added support and impact resistance. Paediatric zones featured Acrovyn by Design with colourful themed artwork and matching hand/crash rails, creating a welcoming environment for children. Door and corner protection were also included to protect key areas from wear and tear.These measures ensure the space remains safe, resilient, and visually appealing for patients and staff.

Located at the University of Oxford, the newly completed IMS-Tetsuya Nakamura Building is home to the Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine (IDRM). This three-storey, 6000m² facility houses cutting-edge laboratories, a café, and an exhibition space. With 240 scientists working in open-plan labs, wall protection was essential to maintain hygiene and durability.Construction Specialties (CS) provided a bespoke impact protection scheme, featuring Acrovyn SCR-80M crash rails and FR-225 rub rails in Charcoal colour, complemented by Snow White SM-20 corner guards. One Glass Wharf, a landmark office building in Bristol’s business quarter, serves as the headquarters for Burges Salmon. With a terracotta, zinc, and glass façade, this 19,500m² building, completed in 2011, achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Eleven years later, the main entrance and office areas required a refurbishment, including the replacement of the original entrance matting. Construction Specialties (CS) provided a retrofit solution with custom-designed Pediluxe mats. Two mats, each 10,200mm wide, were fabricated to fit the radiused entrance, featuring durable carpet inserts in a Wrought Iron shade for both aesthetics and functionality. The mats ensure safety and cleanliness while enhancing the refreshed reception area’s visual appeal.

A range of CS louvre solutions were selected for the Met Office HQ in Exeter to ensure efficient airflow and protection from wind-driven rain ingress.The RSH-5700 louvre delivering Class A rain defence up to 3.0 m/s was installed in the sloping façade of the main building. This model is available with an optional glazing frame detail for easy integration into curtain walling.For the IT building, where airflow delivery was a key specification factor, the A-3250 ventilation louvre offering continuous blade appearance and hidden mullions was selected. This product offers Class 1 airflow performance and low pressure drop.

Arkon Energy, a 100% renewable data centre company, expanded its network with the acquisition of Hydrokraft AS in Glomfjord, Norway—one of Europe’s largest hydro-powered data centres. Located just 400 meters from the ocean, the site required a high-performance louvre system to manage airflow and protect against harsh coastal weather.The key challenge was to install a rain defence louvre capable of handling high wind loads (1.4 kN/m²) while blending with the building’s exterior and maintaining cost and delivery efficiency.Construction Specialties’ RSH-5700 louvre was selected for its proven performance, modularity, and clean design. Finished in RAL 7035 with a 60-micron polyester powder coat, the system ensures long-term durability in a coastal setting (C3/C4 class).Installed across 580m² at the facility’s front façade, the louvre system successfully met performance, durability, and aesthetic requirements.

Located in the heart of Canary Wharf, One Bank Street is a 27-storey landmark office building designed by renowned architects Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF). Achieving a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, the building exemplifies sustainable design and modern architectural excellence.To maintain efficient ventilation and provide rain defence without compromising the design, the architects required high-performance, vertical blade louvres. To achieve this balance of functionality and aesthetics, Construction Specialties (CS) supplied 38 custom-sized RSV-5700 vertical blade louvres, covering approximately 300m². Installed beneath deep overhangs on the West and South façades, these louvres achieve Class A 3 up to 3.5 m/s (verified by independent testing to EN 13030) . Powder-coated to match the façade, the louvres integrate seamlessly into the glazing framework.

A car dealership in Brentford underwent a comprehensive redevelopment to modernise its facilities, aiming for a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Spanning over 13,200m², the new design includes a showroom for 25 cars, a 35-bay workshop, valeting facilities, offices, and a parts distribution hub, alongside a five-storey car park for 400 vehicles. Construction Specialties (CS) provided the A-4080/A-4085 Ventilation Louvres to support natural ventilation and smoke control. Powder-coated in Graphite Black (RAL 9011), these louvres align with the cladding for a cohesive look. Covering 175m² across various building elevations, including a custom trapezoidal section, they ensure compliance with regulations and enhance the building’s aesthetic.

Restoration was carried out on office building The Garment Factory combining the original building’s key features with contemporary finishes. Because this is a big office building with many tenants, foot traffic was likely to be a common occurrence in the main entrance. To support interior floor surfaces, CS provided the stylish and efficient Pedimat Ultra entrance matting, along with Platinum Exterior Grade Carpet Inserts and Pedimat Ultra Rails (Black Anodised). Pedimat® Ultra has an 11mm slim depth profile and can be fitted in customary matwells as well as alongside floor tiles and carpets to create a flush floor finish.

The Residence Nine Elms is a building that contains one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. They feature impressive views of the city with customized furnishings and a modern design. The building’s entrance and lobby contain luxurious décor. GRID Architects wanted to have an appropriate area in this part of the building for strong entrance matting to stop the visibility of dirt and water. CS’ Pediluxe entrance matting was chosen with colours Wrought Iron (Dark Grey) and Castle Grey (Light Grey) interior carpet inserts to prevent an extreme effect against the clear stone floor and brickwork in the lobby.

Heavy duty movement joint covers were required for both the centre and its adjoining multi-storey car park to prevent damage due to excessive traffic. CS provided the heavy duty APF Series for the shopping centre’s interior. They are very strong against rolling loads as well as distortion and wear. The robust KB Series joint covers were provided for the multi-storey car park, featuring a unique centre plate with a 1000kg loading capacity.

Featuring the UK’s longest indoor real-snow ski slope, Soar at Intu Braehead is Scotland’s largest retail and leisure complex, attracting up to 17 million people every year. Construction Specialties were asked to provide an expansive entrance mat for the centre’s main entrance. The chosen product was CS’ Pediluxe entrance mat with Platinum covered exterior grade carpet inserts. They have stronger bristle than interior grade carpet inserts, assuring dirt and moisture is effectively removed from the soles of shoes. This enormous entrance mat strongly protects interior floor surfaces and maintenance budgets from foot and wheeled traffic.
