Lewis House is a development of 26 one and two bedroom retirement apartments in Upper Norwood in London from McCarthy & Stone. Profile 22 Optima Chamfered Windows deliver specifications required. The window specification required a U-value of 1.4 wm2/k on all windows and Secured by Design accreditation on the ground floor & easily accessible first floor windows. Acoustic glazing was also required because Lewis House is situated on a busy road so traffic noise needed to be minimised. Visually, the local authority had requested a grey exterior to give a modern appearance and provide a close match to aluminum.

Fleet Street in the City of London has long been known as the historic home of the British press. Number 53 is a Victorian terrace, with a striking front tiled facade. Thornsett Group, working with architects Capital Architecture, has recently converted the property into five luxury residences, plus ground floor retail space. We were appointed to design, supply and install 26 traditional box sash windows for the main elevation, with an acoustic performance of 45 dB Rw. For the rear of the property we provided 24 inward-opening timber tilt and turn windows, plus lift and slide patio doors.

The former Queen Elizabeth Children’s Hospital building in Tower Hamlets, London lay abandoned and deteriorating after its closure in 1997. Twenty years later a vibrant new residential development stands in its place. Architects HTA Design liaised closely with heritage consultants to ensure that original key elements, such as the Hackney Road facade, were preserved and seamless integrated.The new building provides 188 homes of which 72 are Affordable. We were appointed to design, manufacture and install 122 timber tilt and turn windows with a high acoustic specification of 45 dB Rw; plus timber single doors and French doors.

Clement have replaced hundreds of industrial style steel windows at the newly restored Maple Building in Kentish Town, North West London. Dating back to the 1890s. Acquired recently by The Linton Group who have turned the old converted warehouse into five floors of luxury apartments and penthouses. Interior architects, Gordon-Duff & Linton insisted upon a high specification throughout, focusing on strong acoustic and design performance. Clement W40 steel windows were the perfect choice, complementing the cosy, well-lit interiors that are a feature of the building, as well as offering superb quality and an impeccable match to the original fenestration.

Leeds Arts University completed a 5-year £22m building expansion with HERADESIGN® Sonic Element and Baffle Element, installed throughout the main entrance, library and the new group spaces to minimise noise disturbance.The design for the project meant all the mechanical services had to be exposed and the lighting integrated into the hanging canopies.Paul King of DLA Design Group said, "We chose HERADESIGN® because, aside of the acoustic performance, we liked the natural, raw wood wool. It’s a striking and versatile material and we were really impressed with how the individual panels could be matched to the chosen colour scheme.”

Premier PR, located in a 19th Century former warehouse had had thermal and acoustic secondary glazing installed by Selectaglaze to help produce a more amenable working environment for office staff. Selectaglaze installed 115 windows across the ground, first, second and third floors. A wide range of products were combined for the specification, the majority of which were two and three pane horizontal sliders. The Series 30 lift-out unit was specified for one particular opening to allow easy access for cleaning. Another primary window was fitted with a single side hung casement, designed to suit the existing fenestration.

South Hampstead High School is situated in Hampstead, North-West London. The girls’ school began a substantial rebuild in 2014 as part of an ambitious 8-year plan, which included the transformation of Waterlow Hall (originally constructed in 1988) into an adaptable performing arts centre.Five Series 15 2-pane horizonal sliders were installed, along with one Series 15 3-pane horizontal sliding unit for a primary window with a wider opening. The secondary glazing was installed using bespoke timber fixing grounds into which it was fully sealed and secured. Selectaglaze was able to achieve the largest cavity available to maximise the acoustic benefits. 

Metal Technology has contributed to achieving the desired aesthetic for the flagship Leeds College of Building Campus designed by Fuse (Leeds). The scheme utilised Metal Technology’s System 17 High Rise capped curtain walling and incorporated manual and automatic 4-20Hi+ casement opening vents. System 5-20D Hi+ doors completed the range of products used. These systems combined to deliver complete design flexibility, achieving not only a very high level of thermal performance, but also exceptional structural, security and acoustic performance. All Metal Technology systems comply with the latest British Standards and are Secured by Design certified.

Northumbria University’s Grade II Listed Sutherland Building, home to its Architecture and Built Environment Department, now boasts a state-of-the-art architecture studios. Page\Park worked closely with ESH Group to deliver the new-build for which functionality and design were key. HERADESIGN®, a high-performance product which effortlessly retains ambient sound whilst reducing disturbing background noise, provided the acoustic and aesthetic solution required for the project. An innovative new residential property built on Passivhous principles, located on the site of a former walled garden within a classic Georgian country house estate, utilises Promat SYSTEMGLAS® Celare fire resistant glazing system from fire, thermal and acoustic solutions specialist Promat UK. With the aim of maximising natural daylight, the design incorporates a number of full height modern slim floor to ceiling windows using the SYSTEMGLAS® Celare glazing system. By choosing SYSTEMGLAS®, the architect and builder have been able to benefit from Promat UK’s ‘360 degree wheel of assurance’ for fire rated glazing systems.

When the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) were looking to move into their new Head Office, just off Princess Street in the heart of Edinburgh, Michael Laird Architects asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for the Category B fit-out of the existing building. Working closely with Souness & Boyne, Planet Partitioning used p100 frameless double glazing system throughout to create meeting rooms and offices with high acoustic performance, in a simple grey design. The eight-week job also involved installing minimal framework double glazed doors throughout the offices, to complement the p100 double glazed partitions.

This leading high-tech company has recently expanded its office premises to cover its growing needs.Located in a prestigious business park, this office building occupies a stunning lakeside position.The interior setting is equally impressive with abundant natural light from the windows, which span the length of the wall.To keep the space light and airy, the design team left the existing ceiling exposed, adding instead suspended acoustic rafts, featuring Vtec MaxiBeam system in a light wood laminate finish.Take a look at the beautiful break-out spaces and dynamic hexagonal rafts that bring this office design to life.

Sheffield Hallam University’s new three-floor, purpose-built teaching facility, the Heart of the Campus Building, is another eye-catching addition to this burgeoning northern university. Planet Partitioning used p100 double glazing to glaze around 50 room frontages, including seminar and study rooms, installing IsoClear single glass doors throughout to ensure excellent acoustic performance. This involved using a minimum framework to help create a modern, contemporary look and feel. Planet Partitioning also installed large angular atrium glass screens on the top floor of the communal area to form an impressive 50-metre long ‘U’ shape.

External factors adversely impact many projects and never more so than this primary school redevelopment, delayed first by the discovery of Iron Age and Roman remains on the proposed site that necessitated a full investigation. Then Covid struck, causing global upheaval.We worked with the contractor’s project team to produce a flexible schedule for the doors, which resulted in a smooth delivery of doorsets.These boasted a variety of safety and performance features, in a mix of styles and sizes such as NFR, FD30 and FD30S, oversize doors, double swing doors, doors with/without vision panels and with/without acoustic properties of up to 35dB. Finger guards were supplied on some doors.

To complete the contemporary professional environment that Mills & Reeve wanted, Komfort’s Sonik Slide double glazed sliding doors were installed to all the meeting rooms. The Sonik collection provides enhanced acoustic performance whilst also creating an open-plan modern feel. For the stunning fully glazed atrium, which stretched above the ground floor restaurant, Komfort’s Polar single glazing was used. Polar single glazed is designed with a minimum number of components, and thus facilitates the speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity. Polar single glazing was also used on the office fronts with timber doorframes.

Coláiste an Chláirín Bauder Thermofol single ply waterproofing system with BauderROCK insulationSynopsisThe new Coláiste an Chláirín building in Athenry, Co Galway is a post primary school consisting of classrooms, a special needs unit, sports hall, general-purpose hall, staff amenities and extensive external facilities designed by Smith Kennedy Architects & Healy Partners Architects. The project was managed by JJ Rhatigan and Company and the roofing element appointed to Priority Roofing and Cladding Ltd. The roof of the main building and the gymnasium required flat roof build-ups to meet the specifications as set out in in SDG 02-05-03 (Acoustic Performance in New Primary & Post Primary School Buildings), while meeting the general performance requirements specified within TGD 021-7 2018 (Minimum Performance Standards of Roof Materials and Finishes). The chosen system had to meet an acoustic performance of 35dB indoor ambient noise level (IANL). It was decided that, despite sports halls having a slightly higher IANL threshold, the 35dB performance criteria would be applied across all areas of the school, with control of reverberation being a key consideration in the gym.Bauder Building BoardProject:Coláiste an ChláirínLocation:County GalwayProject type:New BuildRoof size:8550m²Main contractor:JJ Rhatigan & CompanyApproved contractor:Priority Roofing & Cladding LtdThe specification:The Architect specified that the insulation used in the flat roof system should be non-combustible and achieve a U-value of 0.16Wm²k which actually exceeds the thermal requirements as described in the Irish Building Regulations Technical Guidance Document L for flat roofs in schools.BauderROCK was specified to achieve the thermal and acoustic requirements of the design. As a Euroclass A2-s1,d0 non-combustible material, BauderROCK also provided the specified fire performance. This insulation could be used across all roof areas, with some adaptations for the gym which required additional acoustic performance due to the inherent nature of the space. Acoustic infills were used in the troughs of the perforated metal deck, thus combatting the reverberation of the indoor environment.  Products appliedBauder Thermofol PVCAn integrated single ply waterproofing system, featuring a lightweight, cost effective membrane which offers a pleasing aesthetic finish on a flat roof. The use of the self-adhesive air and vapour control layer (AVCL) enabled the trades working within the building to progress quickly without being delayed by weather conditions. BauderROCK is relatively quick to install, as was the lightweight single ply waterproofing.  The resultThe project was finished to time and specification with exceptional workmanship from the fixers at Priority Roofing and Cladding and superb collaboration from all parties throughout. The membrane was finished with standing seams to create a statement look. The roof achieved a U-value of 0.15 W/m2k, exceeding the thermal target, and met or exceeded the 35db IANL requirement across the main building and the sports hall.  The thermal performance, which will hold up for decades to come, will also impart energy efficiency benefits that reduce running costs at the school in the long term. Finally, the non-combustible nature of the mineral wool insulation ensured that the build-up met the fire safety specification. System installed Bauder Thermofol PVC single ply waterproofing system1 Bauder THERMOFOL U15 V FRThis 1.5mm polyester reinforced Poly Vinyl Chloride membrane (PVC) membrane benefits from being highly flexible due to the incorporation of internal plasticizers during the manufacturing process. The combination of materials within this membrane provides high tensile strength, with thermal stability and chemical resistance.2 BauderROCKA mineral fibre non-combustible insulation with high acoustic performance. The dual density mineral wool composition delivers compressive strength, whilst keeping the overall weight to a minimum and providing high noise absorption which enabled the complete system to meet project requirements.3 BauderTEC DBR 06This 0.6mm, self-adhesive, elastomeric air and vapour control layer is light weight and benefits from cleaner, safer, and faster installation than traditional torch applied membranes. Advocacy Niall Hanley, Contracts Manager at JJ Rhatigan, the project’s main contractor, said:"Coláiste an Chláirín Athnery was a great success and in particular the use of the self-adhesive AVCL in advance of the build-up allowed works to commence immediately internally, which was critical from a programme perspective.” Kevin Ryan, Director at Priority Roofing, explained:"We found the system both practical and efficient to install. Ikon Tower is an ambitious residential project located in Valencia (Spain) and designed by Ricardo Bofill architect. Nowadays, is the tallest building in the city with a hundred meters. The building was designed thinking in its inhabitants. The common areas include a gym, a swimming pool with a solarium, a gourmet area, and a Mediterranean garden. Being a skyscraper, light management was another important part of Bofil’s work. The façade has big openness in which our Zi-Box roller shades replace the classic shutters. They are configured with a blackout fabric that provides visual, acoustic, and thermal comfort. Thanks to its Easy Zip guides, the Zi-Box system offers total concealment and privacy. 

This fire-rated and acoustic-rated Invisible Loft Hatch was installed to replace an unsightly loft hatch in a living room. This discreet and stylish solution seamlessly integrates with the ceiling, as the beaded frame of the product allows the plaster of the ceiling to cover it. This means the loft hatch offers easy attic access while enhancing the room's aesthetics. The Loft Hatch features The Access Panel Company's unique SLIK keyhole treatment, which is pushed out of the way when the key is entered and springs back into place when the key is removed. This means the keyhole is hidden from view when not in use. This innovative solution demonstrates how practicality and elegance can coexist in home design.

Middlewood Locks is a £1 billion, 25-acre regeneration project located in Salford, Greater Manchester. This unique urban development is surrounded by three canal basins and the River Irwell for relaxing and peaceful walks.The new homes will feature full-height glazing, high-specification interiors and private outdoor space overlooking the city and waterways.Key necessities was to install non-combustible insulation with a low U-value performance on the external façade to provide fire resilience and thermal performance for future residents.To aid in this the construction team opted for ROCKWOOL RainScreen Duo Slab®. It was chosen due to it's Euroclass A1 non-combustibility classification and its proven thermal and acoustic qualities.

In 2016 Imperial College London acquired the neighbouring disused Royal Mail Post Sorting Office. Architects Pascall+Watson specified secondary glazing to improve their performance. Over seven different types were installed to match the varying styles; large sweeping curved headed casements were treated with matching sightline Series 41 side hung casements, tall traditional box sash windows were treated with Series 20 and 25 vertical sliding units. Obscurity glass was specified, to prevent distractions for the researchers and staff. The windows overlooking the busy thoroughfares of Exhibition Road and Imperial College Road were fitted with a cavity to provide added acoustic insulation.

The newly renovated Grade II* Listed 3-5 Priory Row are a collection of stunning cottages which date back to the 15th Century. As part of the works, Selectaglaze were sub-contracted to manufacture and install the secondary glazing units for thermal and acoustic insulation.38 units were produced from across the slimline range of secondary glazing; Series 10 – 2 and 3 pane sliders were used for the smaller windows and 4 pane horizontal sliding units for those spanning just shy of 2 metres. Series 45 hinged casements were installed, a couple of which were glazed with satinovo glass to provide privacy.

Optimum sound control and humidity resistance were design imperatives for the new Strathclyde Sports Centre. HERADESIGN® and THERMATEX® Aquatec were specified for the project. HERADESIGN® Macro was installed on the walls around the swimming pool. THERMATEX® Aquatec formed the ceiling system in the adjoining changing, showering and circulation areas. Gareth McKnight, Kennedy Fitzgerald & Associates said, “The challenge was finding a system that met the anti-corrosive criteria and performed acoustically. An acoustician measured the reverberation times and HERADESIGN® performed well. With a white interior colour scheme HERADESIGN® brought texture, added depth and interest to the overall interior design.”

Architect: Artillery Architecture Installer: Stortford Interiors Product: Gustafs Panel System LSA supplied almost 200m2 of custom perforated Gustafs ceiling panels to the feature catwalk ceiling which spans the full length of the Catlin Insurance offices in London.This was our first project working with Gustafs to use custom perforation patterns, the chosen style is a backlit semi bespoke geometric pattern designed to be rotated to give the illusion of random perforations along the 60m long stretch whist giving excellent acoustic control. This design was previously used by Gustafs in the Swedish Embassy in Washington DC and we are very proud to have this project in our portfolio.

Nishkam School required a complete end-to-end supply, delivery and installation of fixed and loose furniture in their stunning new-build West London school which spanned three floors and two wings. As part of this large fit-out, our mother company Westcountry Group supplied nearly 2,500 furniture items across the school, including a number of Benchmark dining tables in the large school halls.The Benchmark tables make a great addition to the halls and have provided Nishkam with a space-efficient and very flexible folding dining furniture solution. Co-ordinating colours compliment the acoustic panels which have created a fun and modern look for the lucky students.

Financial services provider ACA were creating a new consolidated space for its employees on London's Strand. This agile office space includes a variety of work settings for maximum workplace flexibility. Milliken's Distortion design, from its Major Frequency carpet plank collection, provides a sophisticated, contemporary look for the collaborative meeting and relaxation areas. The hot-desking and conference room features the cross-hatched design of Wireframe tiles for added tone and texture. Both carpet products deliver exceptional underfoot comfort, wear and acoustic performance. For this fast turnaround project, Milliken's Quick Ship Delivery service meant that the project could be managed swiftly and efficiently.

In cooperation with local partner L-Group, Lindner was responsible for the production and installation of the flooring systems: a total of almost 22,000 m² of the FLOOR and more® G30 and FLOOR and more® G40 hollow floor systems were installed. Despite its low weight, the dry hollow floor impresses with excellent properties in terms of load-bearing capacity, acoustics, fire protection and sustainability. For the server rooms of the administration building, particularly high demands were placed on the floor: Lindner NORTEC G38 ST and VENTEC S38 R38 raised floors were used here ‒ the extremely stable raised floor panels provide the necessary ventilation via the cavity.

The Sonixx Soundsure 400 high performance acoustic underlay was selected for use below a 1/2" engineered wood floor, as part of a flooring refurbishment project in an office building.The installers had nothing but positive feedback on how quick and easy the underlay was to work with. The underlay facilitated a simple, clean and cost-effective installation.Comments in praise of the installation include: 'With the SS400 under, it feels way nicer than most wood floors I walk on' and the owner of the building said, 'We are loving the floor.... everyone comments on the floor when they walk in.'In addition, the underlay provides high quality comfort, stability and performance.The SS400 was loose laid to the subfloor with the 1/2" engineered wood flooring floated above. Pavillion Point is a Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) development on London Road in the centre of Brighton in East Sussex, close to the University of Brighton's main campus. Managed by student accommodation specialist Fresh, the building provides 232 student rooms, dedicated social and study areas, a gym, cafe, multimedia space and landscaped courtyard as well as retail units on the ground floor. The five storey development, designed by Corstorphine & Wright, targeted BREEAM Excellent standards as well as high levels of acoustic performance.In addition to the TECHNAL windows, curtain walling, doors and sliding systems chosen, the external facade features a clay brick slip system for the ground to third floors with a grey rainscreen cladding on the set-back fourth floor. The use of TECHNAL's aluminum systems contributed to creating an A1 rated non-combustible facade, a client requirement given the increased focus on fire safety.To ensure high levels of natural light in the student room, the design features large floor to ceiling windows. The aluminium tilt before turn windows were installed above a fixed glazing panel to create this feature. The TBT windows were selected as the inward tilt opening provides suitable ventilation whilst ensure the safety of the residents. The aim of achieving BREEAM Excellent certification as well as the building’s location on a busy road meant that the door, window and curtain walling systems had to also meet a number of specific performance requirements, not least a high level of acoustic performance. This was a challenge due to the size of some of the panels included in the design. TECHNAL system allowed a 41dB sound reduction to be achieved while optimising the weight of the glazed units.

It has received Leed Platinum status (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the most prestigious green certificate awarded in relation to the design of leading institutions. Modern and futuristic – this is the architectural claim of this hospital, which extends over a surface area of 72 000 m². One component of this comprehensive concept is the durlum LOOP® design ceiling, used in the lobby, the vestibule areas and the atrium.Powder-coated in gold bronze, this design ceiling creates a high-end and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere in these interior spaces. With round apertures as its hallmark feature, this unique ceiling blends harmoniously into the interior design. Curved, organic shapes create an impression of infinite distance. Perfectly matched to the carefully crafted interior decor, a vision of absolute perfection is created.Moreover, this ceiling system is more than simply an eye-catching feature: The LOOP® elements are attached by magnets to the suspended ceiling, made of rectangular metal panels. Perforated and lined with fabric, the acoustics are enhanced greatly – which also improves the feel-good factor.The Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital is based on a comprehensive concept in which nothing is left to chance. A hospital in which people occupy centre stage – a place to enjoy.

The Pôle d`Échange Serra is located directly opposite the Luxexpo exhibition and congress centre in Kirchberg, Luxembourg. The area combines a new bus terminal regional buses and city buses, a Park & Ride car park with around 600 parking spaces and two office buildings with a total area of approx. 8,000 m². With the help of charging points for electric cars, a small kiosk and high security measures at the bus station, the project aims to make the switch from car to public transport more attractive. Lindner Group was involved in the development of the office space. The originalcontract covered the floor and partition trades, including the installation of the NORTEC raised floor with fitted carpet and the use of timber and glass partitions. These were complemented by matching door systems and wooden wall claddings. Due to thecustomer's high level of satisfaction with Lindner's services, the order was quickly extended during the interior fit-out work: As a result, Lindner realised impressive Ecophon acoustic baffles for the meeting rooms. In addition, mobile partition walls should now find their way into the 4th and 7th floors. The room height of over 5 m on the 7th floor made the installation challenging: However, thanks to the static design and subsequent execution of a steel construction clad with plaster, the connection of the 4m high partition wall could be carried out without any problems. Another highlight of the interior fit-out are the wall absorbers in the meeting rooms, which also serve as acoustic pictures. The perforated CPL panel was created in cooperation with Topakustik using a new production method. The perforation pattern corresponds to a Morse code, which stands for the Luxembourg national anthem.

The challengeCeiling systems by Zentia have provided form and function for an award-winning Grade A office building at the heart of one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK.Zentia’s Cradle to Cradle™ certified mineral tiles were specified by regular Zentia users Falconer Chester Hall Architects for the Kingsgate building at Birkenhead in Wirral Waters which was built at a cost of £11.4 million.The solutionThe decision to choose Zentia Prestige hA+ Tegular24 tiles with Prelude 24mm XL2 grid was made simple due to the 30 year system warranty and both having Cradle to Cradle certificates helping achieve Kingsgate’s BREEAM Excellent rating.Manufactured with up to 41% recycled content, the Prestige family is available in three core densities that allow specifiers to engineer sound absorption and attenuation for optimum acoustic performance – standard Prestige giving medium density, Prestige hA+ giving low density (both of these variables were used at Kingsgate) and Prestige dB giving high density, up to 41 dB.Stephen Fieldsend of Falconer Chester Hall said the Zentia systems were specified to reduce acoustics in the open plan office areas which serve as the core business for The Contact Company in its role as a contact centre. Flexible open-plan office spaces allow greater flexibility for the call centre which takes up three of the four storeys, with offices and meeting rooms on the top floor. While its design concept references Liverpool’s past and the trading vessels that once negotiated the waters on its doorstep, the building remains forward focused on sustainability.

Triangular Path carpet tiles, from the Clerkenwell design collection, are installed to dramatic effect throughout the open space while Culture Canvas's luxurious textural tiles add a new dimension the meeting spaces. Rootwork luxury vinyl tiles from the Change Agent collection provide a natural wood aesthetic to the kitchen area providing a high performance, easy to maintain flooring solution. The products' design, comfort and acoustic performance deliver some important well-being benefits to this calm and productive workspace.

The Living Planet Centre is WWF’s brand-new purpose-built head office in Woking. Hopkins Architects and Willmott Dixon asked Planet to provide specification for internal glass partitions in this two-storey 3,666 sqm building. For the meeting rooms, Planet Partitioning installed an electronic room booking system within p100 partitioning, so staff can book meeting rooms. For all the meeting rooms, remote controlled integrated venetian blinds allow additional privacy as required. p100 also ensures all meeting rooms meet high acoustic performance requirements. Planet Partitioning also installed FireStop fire-rated glass partitioning to meet fire regulations throughout the building.

To make the space work for the acoustic and aesthetic requirements, Ryder specified Komfort’s frameless partitioning systems.Komfort’s single and double glazed partitioning systems with 25mm deflection were specified by Ryder in all the meeting rooms on multiple floors. Komfort’s manufacturing team MIG welded together each of the 90-degree corners to create a unique and bespoke design for this project. This helped install speed and resulted in a seamless and high-end appearance by ensuring no separation once glazed.In an aluminium frame, our partitioning creates the appearance of frameless glass with our patented bubble joint.
