Accoya was chosen as the project required a striking facade which complimented the existing traditional stone Temple Bank House. Accoya was also selected due to the fact it is low maintenance & provides warmth & natural textures. 15 mm planks were chosen for the cladding to ensure minimum wastage in the manufacturing making it as cost effective as possible. The client was very impressed with how well the cladding cloaks, shields and invites, addressing the road facing elevations and drawing the occupants around the building to its entrance which sits in relief.

Accoya® wood has been selected to provide decking for one of just twenty six gardens on display at Europe’s most renowned garden events the Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Show. The garden includes stone monoliths which represent the seven deadly sins and seven heavenly virtues connected by wooden decked paths, crafted from Accoya wood. There are also ‘see-saw’ structures of Accoya which connect different sides of the garden and which symbolise the need for balance in life.

The National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) in Staffordshire is winner of the Large Visitor Attraction category in the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2018. Designed by Glenn Howells Architects (GHA), this stunning building is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance - a spiritually uplifting place which honours the fallen, recognises service and sacrifice and fosters pride in the UK. The building engages materially with its environment and harnesses a soft material concept of larch timber and natural stone. Internally this is complemented by the installation of 1000sqm of Troldtekt wood wool acoustic ceiling panels.

Riverstone Phyllite is SSQ’s signature slate; it is one of the few commercially accessible Phyllite stones in the world. Riverstone, Gruesa grade is a slate used for its quality and unconventional thickness of 12-15mm. Riverstone was recently selected to crown the picturesque Summer House residence, situated on the outskirts of Cheltenham, right in the heart of Gloucestershire. Working in close collaboration with Jonathan Rhind and Pete Thompson of Jonathan Rhind Architects, Ray Young and Richard Cook of SSQ recommended this signature slate to create this unusual roof. Transforming the old stone barns at Davey’s Farm was a major undertaking.To make the aging structures fit for twenty-first century living, the builders had to embark on a thorough-going renovation project.But they had to do it in a way that preserved the traditional, rural character that made the site so desirable in the first place.When it came to the roofing, that meant identifying a material that could blend seamlessly with that rustic, natural aesthetic, while offering outstanding weather resistance, longevity and consistency of supply.SSQ’s Del Prado natural slate provided the answer.

In the picturesque village of Limpley Stoke in the Avon valley a newly built house required surfacing for a straight driveway and pathway around the front and side of the property. As you travel through this hilly village you notice that the majority of the other houses have loose gravel on their drives, most of which has gravitated onto the road. Keeping a gravel drive looking tidy is not only time consuming, the loose stone makes the surface inaccessible to bikes, wheelchairs and pushchairs; it’s even a struggle to put your wheelie bin out. In 2017 permission was granted for the re-devlopment of an abandoned mill in Holmfirth into a cookery school and restaurant. The design required the car park to look as natural as possible but to withstand the manoeuvring of large delivery vehicles. ABG offered a re-engineered solution showing that a porous type 3 attenuation stone over the whole car park removed the need for expensive attenuation tanks. The main car park was covered in Sudspave interlocking pavers coloured to match the gravel. Truckcell was used for the turning area and filled with the same gravel for a natural finish.

The client was looking for a low maintenance and environmentally friendly alternative to using timber decking on their upcoming refurbishment project on 480 m² of commercial London office space.In addition, as the client was operating a busy worksite they required next day bespoke deliveries to fit their schedule. EnviroBuild, having large stocks and a fleet of delivery vehicles were ideally equipped to deliver the Hyperion wood-polymer composite decking, made of 90% recycled material, at short notice.The SolutionWith EnviroBuild’s expert team on hand to support full project take off, from design to delivery, the client received the full commercial support they required to complete the job on schedule.Utilizing the maintenance free Manticore recycled plastic lumber the client was able to install the decking substructure quickly over their flat roof surface, with the confidence knowing it would never require treating or replacing in years to come. RESIN BOUND FOR RBG KEW WALKWAYAddagrip Terraco are delighted to have been involved in the Broad Walk project at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew with the installation of over 3000sqm of our innovative resin bound porous paving system, Terrabase Rustic.SURFACING REQUIREMENTSAddagrip Terraco were approached as the UK ‘s leading manufacturer of resin exterior surfaces and together with approved contractor, True Grip Ltd, carried out extensive surveys and put together several specification options and costs that Kew could consider. Kew selected Addagrip’s new patented resin bound surfacing system Terrabase Rustic as it offered a larger 6-10mm stone size providing the rustic looking finish that Kew required and could be installed over the existing macadam with minimum environmental impact and disruption. Drainage was another key requirement and the larger stone size of this bound system provides maximum porosity.As the Terrabase product was relatively new, the surface had to meet many exacting performance criteria put forward by Kew which Addagrip was able to substantiate. After 9 months of discussion, True Grip Ltd were appointed to work via main contractor Kier Facilities Services to install the Terrabase Rustic Oak finish. Despite challenging weather conditions and site restrictions due to the public use of the main areas, True Grip Ltd installed 3,163m2 over the entire Broad Walk, following behind Kier Facilities Services who were installing extensive drainage services and brick edging.The new Terrabase Rustic surface is hard wearing, low maintenance with no loose stone and provides a seamless, natural rustic pathway which looks very much at home in the grounds of London’s historic Royal Botanic Gardens.This exciting project has created the longest double herbaceous borders in the UK. The 300m long borders either side of the Broad Walk from the Orangery to the Palm House Pond, were planted with swathes of vibrant summer flowering perennials, grasses and bulbs to form a spectacular new horticultural feature. The £27 million Art and Design Academy is the first phase of John Moores University campus masterplan. Rick Mather Architects specified 32 Stainless Steel Howe Green access covers, ranging from the 7500 Series to the 1050 Series, to enable easy and safe access to underfloor services in a number of locations. The panels were individually manufactured to match the size of the Charcon Appalachian stone floor slabs and to blend seamlessly with the surroundings. Featuring double seals, the access covers meet the highest standards of hygiene and security as well as being corrosion and maintenance-free.

The stunning and historic Royal Opera House has become a popular attraction for opera lovers wanting to experience world-class performances. It underwent a major refurbishment by Architecture office Stanton Williams, who unveiled their plans to upgrade the entrances and public spaces. We worked with the architects and recommended the use of our flagship INTRAflex XT Entrance Matting to help trap the dirt and maintain the internal aesthetics of the building. The unique Entrance Matting which is cut into the stone at the iconic Royal Opera House not only enhance the reception but also prevents slips and trips.

The modernised area around King’s Cross opened on Thursday 26th September 2013 by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who laid one of the final paving stones on the new King’s Cross Square. In April 2010, Stanton Williams Architects were announced as the winners of a Network Rail competition for the design of a new 7000m² square to the front of King’s Cross Station, as part of the King’s Cross Redevelopment Programme. Sir David Higgins, Network Rail’s chief executive, joined the mayor to congratulate teams hard at work on the final touches to the project.

Metal Technology products have been used to give a stunning facelift to an office building on London’s Edgeware Road. The refurbishment design by Architects AWW (Atkins Walters Webster) specified a high performance façade system engineered to reduce air leakage and exceed current insulation values. Commenting on the scheme, project architect Mark Alker Stone said: “AWW is refurbishing this prominent building to provide a contemporary building as a new landmark within Colindale that benefits the local area in terms of its architectural quality, energy performance and contribution to Edgware Road.”

Accoya weatherboards have been realised on a private residence designed by Architecture 37 Limited, at Red Beach, Auckland, NZ. Accoya was chosen for its durability and stability benefits which are required for coastal settings. Profiled to Bevel Back profile with 158mm cover, the Accoya was band sawn face finish and painted with a colour called Bokara Grey (LRV 8). The coastal tradition of the Accoya weatherboards is observed with stone anchor points at entry and chimneys either end. A living wall softens the road facade, while louvered elements filter sun and privacy.

It would have been easy to implement a traditional paving surface but, having seen the quality of our workmanship and attention to detail that could be produced with SureSet material, Anoopam Mission decided to use it for all of the pedestrian surfaces. One large benefit is that SureSet can guarantee no loose stones because it's a resin bound system that completely infuses the raw material whilst leaving voids for permeability, which also influenced its specification.A walkway blend was designed by our Technical Team to deem the installed materials suitable for heavy footfall and potential vehicular traffic.

Atlas Concorde's stone-effect porcelain tiles pave the area surrounding an outdoor private pool in a peaceful town in the Netherlands.The ceramic surfaces recall the earthy essence and rich details of the original material, giving the space around the outdoor pool a natural, intimate look. The pavers adorn the outdoor space with an evocative ambiance of extreme elegance, creating a comfortable designer environment. The minimalist beauty of the stoneware floor tiles, combined with excellent technical performance, is a perfect choice for the design of outdoor spaces and places that require superior standards of durability and safety.

Rubio Monocoat was specified on the interior and exterior timber surfaces, such as the furniture, kitchen counter top, built-in cupboards, stair casing, as well as outdoor furniture. The interior has a minimalistic and uncluttered feel, rather placing a greater emphasis on the sea, and to the mountains on the Northern side. A dark charcoal colour was chosen for the exterior, and this is in contrast with the light walls inside the house. The kitchen has a clean contemporary feel. There is a spine-wall running through the house, which is cladded with dark ribbon stoning, and copper colours. The furniture is uncluttered as well as being practical for a house that is right on the beach/

The Residence Nine Elms is a building that contains one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. They feature impressive views of the city with customized furnishings and a modern design. The building’s entrance and lobby contain luxurious décor. GRID Architects wanted to have an appropriate area in this part of the building for strong entrance matting to stop the visibility of dirt and water. CS’ Pediluxe entrance matting was chosen with colours Wrought Iron (Dark Grey) and Castle Grey (Light Grey) interior carpet inserts to prevent an extreme effect against the clear stone floor and brickwork in the lobby.

Selfridges is one the UK’s most famous high-end department stores founded in 1908. It’s Grade II listed flagship store is located on London’s Oxford Street. Buzon UK were commissioned to supply and install over 200sqm of the Buzon ALUrail and pedestal system to the newly renovated roof terrace area. The ALUrail installation system offers a complete structure for the raised installation of outdoor spaces. The system can be used for various substrates, 20mm porcelain, concrete and natural stone pavers. Practical and functional, the ALUrail system can be used where the void is limited.

DCM Surfaces were thrilled to be awarded the contract to construct this new build MUGA, following a lengthy tender process.The project included all elements of the build including; excavation of the existing surface, the MOT stone build up, macadam subbase, PCC edges and 1.8m twin rebound wire fence panels around the perimeter.A 12-15mm of black EPDM was installed direct to the tarmac subbase, and then sprayed with an anti-slip coating.Coloured line markings were added following the install, to enable multiple games such as; football, netball and basketball to be played.

In 2017 permission was granted for the redevelopment of an historic abandoned mill in Holmfirth into a restaurant and cookery school. It was soon clear the ground to be used for parking needed stabilisation. To completely dig out the area would have been costly and there was little time for unplanned work. ABG offered a stabilisation combination. Terrex SNW geotextile layer replaced the 50mm sand binding. Abgrid was used as a basel stiffening layer and Sudsweb tied to the grid with Abfix ties. Stone was then compacted ready for ABG permeable paving (see SuDS permeable paving Sudspave, Devour, Holmfirth)

As part of the major refurbishment project, Artform Urban was approached by City Design to transform an underutilised internal courtyard into a vibrant communal space that encourages social interaction and relaxation.To achieve this, the design needed to incorporate a variety of outdoor furniture elements that complemented the modern aesthetics of the refurbished building while withstanding the rigours of an outdoor environment. The design and layout were also guided by the unique and playful ground markings that help to break up the ample space visually.Artform Urban worked closely with the client to provide a comprehensive range of outdoor furniture that met the project's specific needs. The supplied products included:Stone Benches: These uniquely designed pebble-shaped benches are manufactured from High-Performance Concrete and add an artistic touch to the courtyard. The stones can be supplied in 3 sizes and also feature a specialist Comfort option that has a heated element for additional user comfort on colder days. Rivola Seat: A really well-priced unit, the robust granite Rivola Seats feature a wavy design that echoes the ground markings. These can be positioned in 3 different ways for added flexibility. As well as being highly durable and low maintenance the Stone and Rivola are ideal in student environments for encouraging informal group gatherings or solitary lounging and relaxation thanks to their intriguing organic shapes. Loop Arc and Hop Op 500: this range of contemporary, rotationally moulded plastic seating and stools features an ergonomic design and is available in a range of vibrant colours. The client opted for a white bench to complement the newly resurfaced area and ground markings - creating a visually appealing and comfortable seating solution for students, perfect for casual meetings or studying outdoors. It is also possible to install these free standing and self-weight internally with water or sand. Holgate Picnic Sets: To foster a sense of togetherness and encourage outdoor dining, Artform Urban provided picnic sets. These sturdy and durable sets offered a practical dining solution for students to enjoy meals together in the courtyard.Rubino Litter Bin: To maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the courtyard, Artform Urban supplied the Rubino Litter Bin. This heavy-duty yet stylish granite waste disposal unit seamlessly blends with the modern design of the space. By providing various furniture options that combine aesthetics, durability, and comfort, the newly refurbished courtyard will play a crucial role in enhancing the living experience for the students at iQ Wilmslow Park in Manchester.

Howe Green’s 7500 Series Medium Duty Access Covers have been installed in Manchester Cathedral as part of extensive reordering works. The 7500 Series Access Covers were chosen to provide reliable yet virtually invisible access to new mechanical and electrical chambers across the entire body of the building. Over 70 covers were made, each to a bespoke size to fit precisely with the new Burlington Stone slabs being installed. Howe Green also designed a special cover grating to allow air supply to the blower working the bellows of the Cathedral’s remarkable organ.

The multi-million pound UK headquarters of TPP (The Phoenix Partnership) in Leeds was purpose-built by contractors ISG and designed by Bowman Riley Architects. The frontal elevation of traditional Yorkshire stone with pitched tiled roofing contrasts to a rear façade featuring a contemporary appearance with extensive curtain walling. neaco supplied bespoke balconies and external balustrade to both sections, combining traditional-style railed infills with a contemporary twist in the form of tapered flat-bar stanchions with laser-cut holes. This combination has achieved design consistency across the building whilst harmonising with the contrasting aesthetics of the front and rear.

Bespoke finishing joiner Josh Williams was all too familiar with the impact of noise when he embarked on his first build. When he took up his next build project he considered how to create a quiet, comfortable home from the start.For his home he chose to fit ROCKWOOL Sound Insulation Slab, due to its stone wool composition that gives a non-directional fibre orientation and high density. ROCKWOOL Sound Insulation Slab traps sound waves and dampens vibrations, making it ideal for busy homes and spaces such as gaming and music rooms.

A Rundum Original bespoke garage door provided the ideal solution for a stunning new contemporary home on the banks of Loch Tummel overlooking Perthshire’s famous mountain, Schiehallion. The building envelope’s dramatic parallel walls of sawn Caithness stone and polished concrete flank both sides of the house, with the property’s northern end featuring a dramatic main sitting room surrounded by two-storeys of frameless glass. An elegant Rundum Original side sliding garage door features to maintain the external beauty of the property, hand crafted to a bespoke design in Germany using Western Red Cedar.

Baltic Triangle in Liverpool is part of a £100m development scheme, combining 308 individual apartments, gym, communal meeting areas, commercial floor space, receptions as well as parking and an external picnic area. The buildings are a stone's throw away from the famous World Heritage Site, Royal Albert Dock. The brief for the external picnic area was to design seating and tables to reflect Liverpool’s industrial heritage. Artform recommended the Spencer Litter Bin and the Pic-Nic Table & Bench for their contemporary finish in corten steel. The table and bench ends incorporated bespoke laser cutting elements into the design.

Popular German fashion store Laufsteg has transformed its interiors using Amtico Signature. Extended over two floors, the new store opted for two Amtico Signature laying patterns: Key Stone Small and Polygon Key Mini. This impressive floor design combines different tones over the 500sqm space to create a luxurious look and feel. Boasting around 500sqm, the impressive floor design combines different tones from the Signature collection and comes with a 1mm wear layer, offering its customers a 20-year commercial warranty.Image Copyright UNIKUT GmbH

As part of the project all the Alto toilet cubicle doors and partitions at this Mayfair office were wrapped using innovative architectural film in a dark slate grey textured ash veneer finish - provided as part of Washroom's Refresh Service. As well as being environmentally-friendly and quick to install, architectural film is also extremely hardwearing and durable so will further prolong the lifecycle of the toilet cubicles. The sleek dark wood veneer finish is just one of more than one thousand different architectural films available to choose from including wood, metal, marble, leather and stone.

Washroom delivered new washroom areas on all levels of this refurbished office building - drawing on a range of high-tech man-made materials including lightweight cast concrete to create a unique, contemporary space which hints at the industrial history of the building. Its full height Alto FENIX toilet cubicles were specified in a crisp white colour to contrast with the grey and stone coloured concrete vanities. FENIX is manufactured in Italy by Arpa Industriale using the latest nano-technology to create a highly durable, tough acrylic resin surface with a host of high-performance properties.

Designed by Page and Park, this £21 Million project involved refurbishing the existing atrium space and constructing a stunning new 3000 sq.m. three-story building.  Inspiration was taken from the stunning location on loch Airthrey. Blending seamlessly into the landscape, the exterior features granite rainscreen, grey stone cladding and Senior’s SF52 curtain walling, chosen for its elegant slim sightlines and enhanced thermal performance.  Sustainability was further enhanced by installation of Senior’s patented ultra thermally efficient PURe® windows with an innovative thermal break, and robust SPW501 Doors, certified to PAS24 and Secured by Design standards. 

Ultrascapes’s Pro-bed HS, Pro-Prime and Flowpoint have been performing to the highest standard at Manchester’s £650 million development, MediaCityUK. Landscape paving contractor, English Landscapes, specified Ultrascape products for 40,000m² of paving at the high profile development. Over 2000 tonnes of Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar was supplied in bulk silos which provided a perfect base for the stone to be laid on. Pro-Prime slurry primer and the innovative Ultrascape Flowpoint flowable rapid setting grout were also used throughout the development. Flowpoint enables large areas to be grouted with this pourable material.

Green Park Station provides access to the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines. The £60 million refurbishment to achieve step-free access included a copper canopy, a Portland stone entrance and a ramp from the ticket hall into the Park featuring green wall screening. Lang+Fulton designed and supplied 300sqm of panels to clad the raked inner facade of both retaining walls and the tapered wall-heads, which would support the green wall planting. The panels were made to custom sizes from Terra-34 grating and fixed with varying lengths of bracket to accommodate the stepped areas in the walls.

External noise has been kicked into touch by a bespoke secondary glazing system, supplied by Granada Glazing, at the historic Stock Exchange Hotel in central Manchester owned by two prominent footballers.Due to the hotel’s city centre location on Norfolk Street close to the Royal Exchange Theatre, noise insulation from traffic and late-night revellers was a key requirement to create a quieter, more comfortable experience for guests. The original single-glazed timber box sash primary windows were retained due to the building’s listed status and a desire to retain the stone building’s character.
