Polytan will be in on the action when the world’s top athletes pit their strengths against each other at international level this summer. The turf used for the hockey matches in Rio comes from Polytan, as was the case in London and Beijing too. Blue and green versions of the new Poligras Platinum CoolPlus synthetic turf system are being installed. The very same hockey pitch has also been available to the British hockey squads at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre since last October. The pitch comes in an eye-catching colour combination: a blue playing field with a light green border. A higher stitch density and special texturing technology mean that even more accurate moves are possible when playing on Poligras Platinum CoolPlus. In 2019 Inpro were asked by Skanska to tender for an expansion joint product line addressing the exterior cladding of this unique facility. At that time, several other manufacturing companies were being considered for the wide ranging scope of movement joints required. However after in depth interviews, only Inpro was able to offer all the complex joint solutions required in one primary supplier.Detailed Sustainability product information was submitted and verified by third parties.Complicated Shop Drawings and take-offs of the massive 6-building involved depicting multiple complicated transitions between varying substrates, differing products and a range of geometries for the custom-made solutions.Demonstrated our ability to overcome complex technical and field-related problems.Were involved with hours of online meetings with the main stakeholders- Skanska technical teams, the Architectural team and the Installing Contractor in a collaborative approach to implement best practice and minimize risk.This was an Inpro team project including Senior Product Management, Sustainability team, estimation and commercial management who all played an important part to land this iconic development with SKANSKA.

The striking angular design of the £16 Million, five-storey headquarters for safety equipment specialists Arco, forms part of the regeneration of the historic waterfront Fruit Market area in Hull. To the front elevation, the stunning façade created using Senior’s thermally efficient SF52 curtain wall makes a tremendous first impression, whilst SPW501 PAS24 certified commercial doors and Secured By Design Certified SPW600 windows ensure safety and security.With its glass fronted atrium, open plan work spaces, social meeting areas and auditorium for presentations, Arco now has the facilities to meet future needs as the company continues to grow. 

Koster flooring products were chosen to protect the floor for this change of use garage from vehicle storage to a workshop. The garage has a single skin wall with no insulation and an uneven floor. The floor area was primed then leveled using Koster SL Premium followed by two coats of Koster EM-VS. Kiln Dried Silica Sand was spread between the coats to provide a non-slip surface. Insulation, stud walls and work areas were then completed with materials and equipment being moved or dragged across the coated floor. Koster EM-VS is scratch resistant and therefore prevented any damage from occurring.

St. Elmo is a newly built private residence located in Epsom, London. The architects contacted Q-railing to inquire about a glass railing that would allow maximum light into the master bedroom and enable uninterrupted views of the garden. Q-railing recommended a fascia mount balustrade on the balcony using its Easy Glass MOD 0747 stand-off railing system and a 40 x 40 mm cap rail. The internal staircase is equipped with Q-railing’s 42.4 mm stainless handrails and MOD 0148 off-set stainless brackets. Outside, the elegant Easy Glass Pro glass balustrade was installed.

The Bridle Works building is situated on Cathedral Street in Glasgow and is a 19 storey 414 bed high rise student accommodation building.The building is packed full of amazing features & facilities under Novel Student operations. GEC Anderson units were specified as part of the extensive upgrade and improvement works at London’s busy Bank Station.The usual stringent fire regulations applied to the below-ground staff mess area. GEC Anderson are well versed with these special requirements, having supplied well in excess of one hundred London Underground locations over the last few decades. Installation was also handled by the GEC Anderson team.As well as the usual benefits of robust, professional and hygienic equipment that is associated with GEC Anderson’ stainless steel kitchens, special measures were taken to ensure that no combustible or smouldering elements were included in their construction. 

This foundry was previously known as the Leeds Copperworks and has played host to industrial breakthroughs, royal visits, and was the workplace of a 5,000 strong workforce before it closed in 1980. Preparation included diamond grinding and shotblasting. Solution Resuprime OT oil-tolerant primer was applied to prevent delamination. This was finished with two coats of Resucoat HB, a high-build, low odour, epoxy resin industrial floor coating for high impact and wear resistance. Outcome The site has been refurbished with buildings re-roofed and re-clad and a modern warehousing and distribution facility created.

DCM Surfaces were thrilled to be awarded the contract to construct this new build MUGA, following a lengthy tender process.The project included all elements of the build including; excavation of the existing surface, the MOT stone build up, macadam subbase, PCC edges and 1.8m twin rebound wire fence panels around the perimeter.A 12-15mm of black EPDM was installed direct to the tarmac subbase, and then sprayed with an anti-slip coating.Coloured line markings were added following the install, to enable multiple games such as; football, netball and basketball to be played.

The Morgan Stanley Building at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital benefitted from the high performance and durability qualities of leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt paint. The building’s hallways, stairwells, staff rooms and main cafe was painted to provide the perfect solution for combating the high levels of traffic that a hospital has to contend with. The reception area, parent sitting room and play areas, were given a splash of colour in the form of bright blues and greens, while calming colours such as soft yellows and muted duck eggs were used in the quiet zones.

Three variations of Proteus HR panels – VM Quartz (grey) and VM Anthra (black) in zinc and polyester powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey – feature as rainscreen cladding elements on the first two phases of Greenwich Wharf. Architecture has played an important role in the life of Greenwich since Tudor times when Henry Vlll and his two daughters who followed as monarchs, Mary and Elizabeth, were born at Greenwich Palace. When this fell into disrepair, Queen Anne commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to build a refuge for naval men.

Magna Park in Milton Keynes is an extensive distribution and logistics hub, which plays a crucial role for major retailers across the UK and Europe. Units in the park are occupied by the likes of Amazon, John Lewis and River Island. Brandsafe has worked on a number of these buildings, most recently the Latitude warehouse. In order to protect the 12.5m high internal pillars, polymer column protectors with additional forklift impact skirts were supplied and installed by Brandsafe. HGV wheel stops were also provided to protect the building and its occupants from impact damage.

Working with Bell Decorating Group, Crown Paints marked the launch of the first Bell Decorating Academy in Lincoln with a morning of workshops for the students of Lincoln College. Representatives from Bell Decorating Group and Crown Paints were on hand to answer any questions the students had. The event allowed 27 full-time learners from the college’s painting and decorating courses to learn more about how to choose colour and the factors that play into it. Students were also given a demonstration of the benefits of Crown Trade primers. Products were donated for the students to practice with after.

Staff, parents and pupils at a Hull primary school joined forces to give a piece of community art a new lease of life. A large-scale mural at Thoresby Primary School has been restored back to its former glory with support from Crown Paints. The works were carried out across a weekend as part of a transformation of the school’s outdoor area for pupils. Hayley Potts, of Thoresby Primary School, said: “The mural plays a central part in celebrating our school’s history and the children felt passionately about improving and updating it.

Delta Membranes were delighted to be invited by the BRE in adapting a property which could offer Flood Resilience. A housing unit within the BRE (a Victorian Terrace) was refurbished to demonstrate materials, products and innovations that will make it flood resilient. There are an estimated 5.2 million homes considered at risk from surface, river and coastal flooding. Preventative measures play a key role. The specification for resilience, using the same technology Delta have used for many years in Basements or below ground situations with additional consideration as to how we could adapt this to work in flood situations.

A historical reputation for excellence in academia and sport, Badminton School enhanced and maintained this reputation with a new sports hall. Clare Elsley, Assistant Director of Sports at the school, and former England International Netball player, insisted that the performance of the floor enabled the school to use the facility for multi-sport. The DYNAMIK sprung system provides high levels of shock absorption and comfort which benefits teaching staff and students alike. This system replicates that of a DYNAMIK sprung wooden floor, however has all the benefits of having a synthetic playing surface which keeps future maintenance to a minimum.

T & B Contractors Ltd. had been contracted to build a state of the art extension and refurbish a number of existing areas at Capel Manor Primary School in Enfield, Middlesex. Part of the extension included a free standing canopy that would create solar energy for the school and protect the children playing underneath. Colm O’Boyle at T & B Contractors invited us to quote for a timber solar canopy that would sit adjacent to the year 2 classroom that was being revamped. They wanted a system that would let the light through as well as providing solar energy.

Prestigious Bradley Hall Golf Club is located in over 60 acres of picturesque parkland in central Yorkshire. Golf was first played here in 1906 and considerable investment was spent converting the old house into an outstanding club house. Recently the golf club had a major building upgrade but still retained the quality that had been set up all those years ago. As part of this refurbishment the central entrance of the golf club required an impressive eye catching finish to their traditional style Victorian staircase with a unique large curved bottom step.

Lanner Primary School is dedicated to promoting a caring ethos. The school is always looking for ways to make cost effective improvements for the safety and comfort of pupils and to enhance their learning and playing experiences. The school hall floor needed replacing, and had issues with sound reverberation and was an uncomfortable surface for students to sit on. Eden Flooring & Interiors suggested Altro Orchestra to increase comfort and improve acoustics . Marlon Clickfix1040 polycarbonate glazing panels in a range of geometric shapes played a significant role in the design of the Ice Arena Wales, bringing light and exceptional aesthetics to this world-class facility near Cardiff bay. Ice Arena is home to the Cardiff Devils and is a 3,000 seat arena featuring an Olympic standard primary rink for hockey and figure skating. More than 450m2 of Marlon Clickfix RL were cut-to-fit and installed to provide a daylighting solution which offered optimum light transmission, ease of installation and suit the angular metal cladding profile.

Stratum were chosen to prepare and resurface 1300m2 of the existing floor to the iconic main space of the Roundhouse, in Camden, which had endured 15 years of heavy use. The building is a heritage site, originally built as a steam engine shed, therefore our flooring needed to meet the functional requirements for the users but also sensitively fit in with the history of the space and its aesthetics. The surface needed to be hardwearing allowing for large scale builds for various productions, involving plant use, installation of temporary structures, staging etc. We sanded back the entire floor, repaired the damage and installed Bolidtop 525 over the top with textureless anti-slip coating. Challenge-      Working within an extremely busy venue with a tight time scale and no room for error.-      Being a heritage site we would need to be mindful of the original structure of the building-      Large footprint spanning across the main space of the venue.-      No dust creation allowed due to sensitive electrical equipment. Solution-      We agreed a slot and timescale to carry out all of the works in 10 days. We programmed out the works for the customer and provided them with daily updates.-      We used the highest grade dust extraction equipment. We ensured that labour and materials were all available in a timely manner.Benefits/Installation-      The customer was able to select the same smooth, matt appearance they had before but with a different colour choice and the addition of our new tried and tested textureless anti-slip coating.Result-      After 15 years of heavy use this magnificent heritage site has a seamless, durable and safe floor reinstated to provide the functional qualities required for many years of intense footfall and wear the performing arts industry creates. After a prestigious school near Birmingham suffered extensive damage when a leak went unchecked, we installed our award-winning leak detection system to prevent future devastationA tiny leak left to escalate at St George’s in Edgbaston ruined thousands of pounds of property and equipment and left the school without a properly functioning IT department. Leaks within buildings are very common and if not monitored can cause extensive damage, disruption and loss. So, once the school was back on its feet, we were delighted to work with their insurer, Hettle Andrews, to make sure the property was protected against future flooding. St George’s School, EdgbastonSt George’s School is a fully co-educational independent day school for children from ages three to 18 in Edgbaston, near Birmingham. Established as a charitable trust, the school opened in September 1999 as Birmingham’s first independent school to offer a complete education for boys and girls from kindergarten through to the sixth form.We worked with their insurance broker, Hettle Andrews, who facilitated the project. Hettle Andrews works primarily with schools, universities, colleges and charities. In the winter of 2021, the boiler in the room above the IT department of the school began to leak. The school was closed for the holiday period so no one went on-site and the leak went undetected. On return to the school in the New Year, staff discovered the leak which by that point had caused extensive damage.  The leak had not only destroyed the ceiling and light fittings but the whole IT department below including computers, carpets, plug points and furniture. The challengeNo warning: this was the first time anything like this had happened. The Wilberforce Trust is a charity dedicated to helping and empowering those with sight and hearing loss and impairment in the York and North Yorkshire area to live fulfilling and independent lives. The Trust had tenants in community based supported housing and family homes around York but wanted to deliver an innovative ‘extra care’ housing scheme designed especially for people with a visual impairment and other disabilities; the first of its kind in the area.Wilberforce House offers 30 one-bed, open-plan purpose-built, self-contained apartments along with a Living & Learning Zone – providing education and leisure activities – a courtyard cafe and offices for the Trust itself, all set in four acres of accessible landscaped gardens, including a large sensory garden. The apartments utilise smart home and assistive technology personalised to their lifestyle needs.A consultant was employed to review the development’s plans with regard to fire safety. His report included recommendations for additional fire safety measures including the ability for cooker hobs to be switched off by an alarm, as kitchen fires are a significant risk with 50% of all accidental house fires starting in the kitchen. WHY THE FIRECHIEF KITCHEN STOVE GUARD? The initial solution proposed was costly as it meant hob alarms would need to be hard wired into each apartment’s fuse board. Damian Pocknell, Head of Housing, Facilities & IT at the Wilberforce Trust recalled having seen and read about the Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard and realised that this would be much more cost effective. The fire consultant agreed and subsequently signed off on the Kitchen Stove Guard as the approved solution.  

Caudwell International Children’s Centre (CICC) is the UK’s first independent Centre dedicated to autism diagnosis, therapy and research. National Charity, Caudwell Children, funded the 60,000 sq ft iconic £18 million facility which has been built in Staffordshire near Keele University. The aim of the Centre is to unite the world’s leading experts on autism diagnosis and therapy.The Centre features two internal courtyards and an innovative ‘Butterfly’ design which reflects the charity’s logo. It has been meticulously designed to meet the needs of disabled children and surpasses current UK accessibility standards.  The Centre incorporates state-of-the art assessment suites, family training suites, and training kitchens. There is even a 120-seat conference facility so that experts can share ideas from around the world.The 360-degree loop corridors aim to discourage children from running and, without harsh, right-angled corners, there is less risk of surprise encounters which might cause anxiety. ‘Quiet Pods’ and sensory rooms have also been provided to create a calming space.A combination of Lusso 25 single glazed partitions and Lusso 105 double glazed partitions were installed to meet the varying needs within the building. This helps to ensure visibility for safety, and acoustic requirements to reduce noise levels so as not to over-stimulate children. Lusso 25FR and Lusso 105FR were also used whre fire regulations were required. Overall, the use of glazed partitions within the design ensures the building is modern, contemporary, and bright for all visitors to the Centre.

Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has played a major role in helping to transform one of the UK's busiest train stations. The long awaited redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station has transformed what was previously a dark, overcrowded site into a prestigious gateway to the UK's second city. Work was carried out by MPB Structures Ltd. It included reinstating existing station platforms, installing new structures, hardscaping around the station perimeter and the creation of Birmingham's version of the 'Spanish Steps.' The paving was installed using Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system.

This is an ideal surface for wheelchair users to aid the glide of wheelchairs as the low rolling resistance of sprung systems finished with a solid ‘non-spongy’ playing surface, allows chairs to easily glide across the floor.

With over 2,000 m2 of floor space and seating for up to 1,655 people, the £12million Essex Sport Arena is another innovative facility where DYNAMIK Sport has installed their world class sports flooring. Home to the netball super league with 3 netball courts, 8 badminton courts, 3 basketball courts, 5 volleyball courts and 2 futsal courts, all available for hire to sports groups. The arena boasts DYNAMIK’s A4 area elastic sprung floor which we hope will play some part in supporting elite sport and the future successes of the teams.

Furnitubes designed and manufactured bespoke Akri raised planter beds and integrated seating, framed in corten steel – which we chose for its long term durability in outdoor environments. It’s also a great choice where damage to the steelwork might occur. Planter units were sealed using a protective sealant in order to avoid staining on users’ clothing and the surrounding paving and surfaces. Picnic table units were incorporated to provide adequate resting space for public use. Providing a whole range of new playing experiences, Russell Gardens has been transformed for the betterment and wellness of the local community.

In a recent refurbishment of their main sports hall the choice of the playing indoor surface underwent a rigorous specification process. The hugely important decision would demand that only the best products be used and the final specification would settle on some 610m2 of Taraflex® vinyl sports flooring in ‘Maple’ from international flooring specialist Gerflor. Anthony Mynett, Director, Carpet Services (Cardiff) Ltd commented, “we are the preferred flooring contractor at the college and chose Gerflor’s Taraflex sports flooring as it conformed perfectly to the college’s requirements.” Adding, “Taraflex Evolution is unique as it covers a Granwood floor surface.”
