Designed by Cubo Arkitekter and Force4, the House of Disabled People’s Organisations Denmark’s new structure was conceived so that everyone – regardless of ability – could work and move freely within it.The building’s disability solutions had to be subtle enough to integrate into the architecture, and the d line Cut lever handle, created in collaboration with both Cubo and a group of occupational therapists, was one of the solutions chosen.

PROJECT BACKGROUND: Ongoing improvements were in progress at the school, focused on enhancing accessibility. These improvements included widening existing interior openings and introducing new exterior doors equipped with ramps.REQUIREMENT:  The ramps needed to comply with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standards and feature childproof, slip-resistant surface coverings.END RESULT: Once the new doors were in place, we installed the DDA ramps accordingly with a 1:15 gradient.Each system was fitted with our Safetread Rubber Surface. This is a cushiony, slip-resistant ramp covering designed to minimise the impact of falls.This product is constructed from materials identical to those used in soft play areas and enjoys wide popularity among nurseries, schools, and public facilities. Moreover, it offers a variety of colour options and maintains its performance even in adverse weather conditions.

Care Spaces played a crucial role in enhancing the living conditions of a private client, referred to as Mr B, who had experienced a spinal injury leading to a loss of physical independence. Collaborating with an architect to design a bespoke extension, we focused on the bedroom and bathroom to cater to his specific needs. The centrepiece of the design was an XY ceiling track hoist with a magnetic transition gate system, facilitating safe transfers between the bedroom and bathroom. Care Spaces also recommended bathroom equipment tailored to Mr B's needs, including a washer/dryer toilet, a static-height hand basin, and an Avero care bath with an air spa system for therapeutic benefits. With Mr B's approval, we oversaw the installation of the hoist system and bathroom equipment, provided necessary training, and ensure routine servicing for optimal functionality. Mr B is now delighted with his improved living space, and Care Spaces remains committed to maintaining the excellence of his care equipment.

The PebbleBraehead shopping centre is one of Scotland’s leading shopping and entertainment destinations. The centre also prides itself on its accessibility, with plenty of disabled washroom facilities, sensory aids, changing rooms, 650 designated parking spaces and a dedicated Shopmobility service.During a washroom refresh in 2021, Braehead shopping centre decided to procure new hand dryers. The Pebble hand dryer became the clear winner due to its elegant streamline design and low noise levels, as well as the solutions it offers to washrooms in high footfall venues.A key driver for the project was the speed and ease of replacement if there should be a fault. Not only is the outer casing of the Pebble strong (IK08 rating), the dryer casing also has Ion Pure antimicrobial technology impregnated, meaning germs and bacteria on its surface are eliminated.Focussing on the inside of the dryer, the Pebble also includes a smart HEPA iFilter that warns you when it needs replacing, and a brushless motor. So, the Pebble is cleaner and has a longer lifespan.The Pebble seemed like the most obvious solution to the shopping centres washroom challenges.

In conceptualizing Bobrick’s new headquarters in North Hollywood, CA, the design team at Gensler Architects (Los Angeles) set out to create a work environment that celebrated Bobrick’s egalitarian culture and innovative work processes, while facilitating connection and collaboration throughout.

In this case study, we take a look at the amazing project undertaken by Allium Landscapes, as they were tasked by their clients with converting a garden into a haven of safe play for their young children. The objective was clear: create a secure play area that encourages imaginative play without compromising on safety.To achieve this goal, Allium began researching to identify the most suitable safety surfacing option to install beneath a wooden climbing frame and slide. After detailed research and discussions with their clients, they arrived at the decision that a wet pour rubber surface would be the most suitable solution, blending safety and aesthetics seamlessly. They opted for this superb rubber surfacing solution to ensure;Reduced risk of injuries: The top priority was to reduce the risk of fall-related injuries and wet pour rubber safety surfacing was deemed the ideal choice for this purpose.Low maintenance: Allium wanted a solution that would stand the test of time and the unpredictable British weather. Wet pour rubber is highly resistant to weather elements including rain, wind and UV rays, ensuring year-round usage without the hassles of regular maintenance.Stability and non-slip: Allium understood the importance of providing a stable, non-slip surface conducive to running, jumping and all other kinds of play.The Wet Pour Rubber Installation ProcessThe journey to achieve a safe and visually appealing play space began with the excavation of the existing grass and soil surface. In its place, a strong sub-base was prepared to provide a solid foundation for the rubber surfacing. This crucial step helps to ensure the stability and longevity of the play area.Next, SBR rubber was mixed with our rubber resin binder in a forced action mixer. This mixture was then laid and trowelled onto the prepared sub-base. The thickness of the SBR base determines the critical fall height rating of the rubber surface, so it is highly recommended that you plan carefully to ensure your new surface provides a suitable CFH rating for the play equipment it is under.Following this, the Reseda Green wet pour rubber was mixed together with our specialist rubber crumb resin binder in a forced action mixer. The skilled team then hand-trowelled this attractive 15mm top layer onto the SBR base, creating a seamless and resilient surface beneath the climbing frame and slide. The unique green colour adds an inviting touch to the garden.With the safety surface in place and fully cured, the installation of the climbing frame and slide followed. The team followed the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that all components were securely fastened and the frame was level, stable and firmly anchored to the floor using anchors in the rubber surface. These additional safety measures provided complete peace of mind to the clients, knowing that their children were not only protected by the rubber safety surface but also by a sturdy and securely anchored climbing frame.Project OutcomeThe transformation achieved in the client's garden is nothing short of astonishing. Their children now have a safe, durable and visually appealing play surface beneath a new wooden climbing frame and slide. With the wet pour rubber surface in place, the family can now enjoy the outdoors without worry, knowing that their children are shielded during their outdoor adventures. This case study is courtesy of Play To Measure and Priory Park Community School. The school sought a specialist play company to convert an unused piece of land into an innovative learning and play environment. Their aim was to merge education, creativity, fun, nature, and most importantly safety, in one holistic design.Before the project commenced, the outdoor space at Priory Park Community School was mostly inaccessible and overgrown, resulting in underutilisation.Play To Measure faced a significant challenge due to the lack of engaging features and safety concerns while transforming this space into an area promoting both learning and play. Ensuring students’ safety while encouraging outdoor learning, creativity, and physical activity was a top priority in the planning process.To address these challenges, Play To Measure proposed a comprehensive solution. This involved creating an outdoor classroom, pond, climbing frame with a slide, hammocks, and more. They also added rubber grass matting underneath suitable structures to cushion falls and ensure the safety of the children.The initial phase involved clearing the overgrown grass and plants, providing the team with a blank canvas to work on. With the area cleared, the team commenced transforming the design into reality.They created a pond filled with self-oxygenating plants to attract various wildlife, making it a potential habitat. Adjacent to the pond, they placed a boat, offering a unique relaxation and learning space.Above the pond, they installed a custom-built Outdoor Classroom with a bridge, serving as a dedicated educational space with a canopy for year-round use.In proximity to the classroom, two handmade hammocks were installed with our protective rubber grass mats underneath, ensuring a safe surface under this unique relaxation area.The subsequent phase involved designing, constructing, and installing a unique climbing frame. Play To Measure's team crafted an innovative play space featuring ladders, a slide, a climbing wall and nets. The climbing frame was assembled and installed on-site, with some help from the school’s students!Rubber grass mats, 23mm in thickness, were then laid and secured around the climbing frame, providing a safety surface for all users. These easy-to-install safety surfacing solutions offer a superb 3.3m critical fall height, ideal for various play spaces. Saige products were used to help create a low maintenance garden which could have critical wheel chair access for a family member so they could use their garden all together. The contractor used Saige's Traditional co-extruded decking range in Teak to create a large outdoor space including the all important access ramp along with Saige's Subframe system to create a solid, safe and accessible environment.

Mote Park is a 450-acre green space within the town of Maidstone, Kent. The expansive park has woodland, grasslands and rivers all surrounding a 30 acre lake. The park attracts over one million visitors a year and provides source for a range of activities such as water sports, family fun days, dog walking and wildlife spotting. To safely secure the perimeter of the new play area we supplied 230 metres of Anti Trap Bow Top fencing and a number of matching gates.

Promat plays key role in transforming vacant site into valuable community hub 

The washrooms in a West London School were in need of refurbishment. They took the opportunity to completely rethink the use of space and had a more modern, fresh look in mind for the Key Stage 1 & 2 school washrooms, and the Franke Washino range fitted perfectly with the scheme. Franke’s Washino wash and play trough (SANW215P) were used instead of traditional washbasins. The Washino range is ergonomically designed to allow children to get closer to the taps, and the playful wave and pleasant warm surface of the Miranit troughs are a temptation for children to wash their hands.

Lollard Street Adventure Playground is a Danish inspired vibrant urban playground which provides an exciting play space for children aged 6-16 years of age. The playground is divided into various play spaces, including; football pitches, basket ball courts, climbing frames and small garden areas. These areas needed to be effectively divided internally whilst the perimeter of the playground required further security to ensure the children are deterred from venturing off the site into dangers, such as traffic, around the busy urban estate where the playground is situated.

Delivering privacy between the design office and meeting room of leading toy and games specialist, John Adams, Style has installed a chic moveable wall system that combines three glass panels with a single solid panel and solid inset pass door. The DORMA semi-automatic sliding partition allows natural light into the divided space whilst still offering 47dB Rw acoustic rating, for excellent privacy when required. Staff at John Adams can quickly and easily slide the panels into place, whereupon substantial rubber seals automatically expand to form the optimum acoustic barrier, every time.

Weaponness Park in Scarborough has been transformed into a £15million development comprising an improved community leisure centre, a new stadium for Scarborough Athletic Football Club, a University Technical College and a satellite campus for Coventry University. Matching their generosity Safety Technology International have partnered with a community charity to preserve and protect a life-saving donation for when it is needed most.The Post Office Anglers Society (POAS) is a family fishing club with a long history stretching back to the early 1970s; initially the brainchild of now honorary member David Butt and a fellow group of Post Office Telephone Engineers the Society now has nearly 300 members.In 2005, the Southend-on-Sea based Society purchased a 4.5 acre site in Sutton, Essex to develop their very own two lake fishery, Beauchamps, to supplement their existing leased fishery. The POAS’ Beauchamps Fishery was recently fortunate enough to receive an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) donated by the Finish Line Fund.The AED was to be installed in the fisheries meeting area, a location partially open to the elements and only accessible to members. It was vital, therefore, the new life safety device be properly protected for use in an emergency.As is customary, the AED operator’s manual offered clear instructions for proper installation and maintenance, including guidance on impact protection, equipment visibility and environmental protection requirements.Drawing on the life safety expertise of its membership, STI’s AED Protective Cabinet (STI-7531AED) was identified by the POAS and carefully chosen to protect the sophisticated medical device as it exceeded all of the criteria set out by the manufacturer and all with a three-year guarantee.POAS Member and Fire Safety Professional, Ken Pearce, said: “The POAS contacted STI to discuss the enclosure and its importance in protecting the possibly life-saving AED.“We were delighted to hear that STI offered to donate the enclosure to the club to safeguard the AED from the elements and allow us to be able to carry out the installation in line with the AED manufacturer’s guidance.”It was determined the impact-resistant UV-stabilised polycarbonate enclosure could withstand any amount of accidental knocks from fishing equipment and fishery maintenance tools; the clear polycarbonate housing and thumb lock allowing the portable AED to remain both highly visible and easily accessible, vitally important in an emergency.From the scorching days of the POAS Summer League matches to the chilly Winter League matches fished by the hardiest of fishermen, the typical working properties of -40°C to 121°C greatly exceed the wildest of temperatures expected at the fishery throughout the year – An internal gasket guards against ingress.Ken added: “The AED Protective Cabinet was installed by a member of the POAS Maintenance Team who found the installation to be extremely straightforward, and was particularly pleased with the supplied wire shelf and steel mounting backplate, which ensured a secure installation – The enclosure was successfully installed in under an hour.“All members would like to thank STI for this great donation and we can have confidence that the equipment, should it be needed, will be easily accessible and well protected.”

Safety Technology International have donated protective covers to help a local community charity with false alarms at a time when they need it most.Wildgoose Rural Training is a charitable care farm in Hallow, just outside of Worcester, that supports adults and young people with a variety of learning disabilities.Starting in 2000 with just a handful of students, Wildgoose has grown into a 42-acre site with a thriving 6-acre farm where students from all backgrounds can learn horticulture, animal care, woodworking, arts and crafts, and carry out conservation work.Wildgoose supports students in a ‘happy and inclusive family atmosphere’ and focuses on teaching practical and meaningful land-based skills.One student had recently taken a liking to setting off the fire alarms in the main building at Wildgoose, resulting in frequent unnecessary evacuations.Not only did this cause a great deal of upheaval in having to evacuate the students from their buildings to the fire assemble points, but in students with sensory sensitivity and hearing issues these fire alarms caused a great deal of distress, panic and shock.On contact with STI, Wildgoose were recommended the Euro Stopper® call point covers with a sounder alarm to discourage the student from setting off the fire alarm. The protective covers were duly installed over the call points in their main building to prevent accidental or malicious tampering with the fire alarm without restricting legitimate operation in an emergency.Managing director of Wildgoose Rural Training Centre, Jim Hidderley said: “The call point covers provided by STI have reduced our regular false fire alarms from a weekly occurrence down to 0, the covers with sounders prove to be a sufficient deterrent from any mischievous hands.”“More importantly, the cover has ensured that our students are not put under any stress that is unwarranted due to false fire alarm triggering”The Euro Stopper® is a tough polycarbonate cover that can withstand the toughest of knocks and has an optional 96dB integral sounder that draws immediate attention to the area to dissuade unwanted activation of call points, therefore reducing false fire alarms.
