Application

Civil infrastructure.

  • Designed for application by airless spray to provide fire resistance for periods of up to 120 minutes on structural steel.
  • An exterior durable intumescent, which can be applied directly onto blast cleaned steel.
  • Suitable for application in-shop and on-site, provided the conditions listed below are adhered to.
  • For use in internal and external environments without topcoat, (C5 according to ISO 12944-2:1998).

Description

A two-component, durable, epoxy intumescent fire protection coating rated for up to four hours of cellulosic fire proofing on structural steel.

FIRETEX® FX9500 has a smooth finish that is suitable for exposed steel in architectural features. It can be finished with an approved topcoat to prevent chalking or discolouration for enhanced aesthetic appeal.

Manufacturer guidance

FIRETEX FX9500 is designed for use over a suitably prepared and primed substrate. Ensure surfaces to be coated are clean, dry and free from all surface contamination such as oil, grease, dirt and corrosion products to achieve satisfactory adhesion.

Blast clean to Sa2½ ISO 8501-1. Average surface profile in the range 50-75 µm.

Top coat

Required.

Guidance for specification option:

Insert requirements.

Where a high degree of gloss and colour retention is required overcoat with Acrolon C137V2, Acrolon 7300, Acrolon 1850 within seven days at a minimum dry film thickness of 50 µm.

These overcoating times refer to achievement of optimum adhesion at 23°C and will vary with temperature.

FIRETEX FX9500 is indefinitely overcoatable with itself.

Drying time

At +23°C: to touch: 8 hours; to handle: 24 hours; to recoat: 8 hours.

Tested to BS 476-20 and BS 476-21.

Guidance for specification option:

Assessed in accordance with the ASFP Yellow Book 5th Edition (UL Certificate BS-RC-0020).

Tested and assessed in accordance with the ASFP Yellow book 5th Edition for cellular beam protection.
