Vertical active fire and smoke curtain barrier providing 120 minutes integrity and up to 85 minutes radiation control at 15 kW/m², tested to BS EN 1634-1 for fire and radiation performance.
Vertical active fire and smoke curtain barrier suitable for internal fire compartmentation and smoke control where aesthetic integration is a key design driver. Appropriate for protected means of escape, atria, lobbies, reception areas, corridor separation, openings in fire-resisting walls, boundary protection, escalators, stairwells, lift shafts and lift lobbies.
Regularly specified in hospitals and healthcare facilities, schools and universities, hotels, high-rise buildings, offices, retail environments, stadia, museums and galleries, as well as transport hubs including train stations and airports. Also suitable for warehouses, factories, nurseries, shopping centres, restaurants, and defence or secure environments requiring certified fire and smoke control with enhanced architectural finish options.
The Flameshield EVO Fire and Smoke Curtain is designed for multiple applications such:
The Flameshield EVO Vertical Active Fire and Smoke Curtain Barrier is an electrically operated fire and smoke control system designed to provide reliable compartmentation while maintaining architectural aesthetics. The system achieves 120 minutes fire integrity and up to 85 minutes radiation performance at 15 kW/m², tested in accordance with BS EN 1634-1, supporting occupant tenability and fire strategy requirements within a wide range of building types.
The barrier assembly comprises a carbon steel barrel and integrated 24 V d.c. electric motor, incorporating a high-performance flexible fire curtain fabric capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 1000°C. Barrel deflection conforms to BS 6323-5, ensuring stability and consistent performance. A T-section bottom rail provides controlled descent and smooth operation, supporting dependable gravity fail-safe deployment in the event of power or system failure.
Designed with architectural integration in mind, the Flameshield EVO is particularly suited to environments where visual impact is critical. End plates, guides and head boxes can be finished in specialist RAL colours, allowing the system to blend seamlessly with interior finishes while maintaining certified fire performance.
A comprehensive range of ancillary safety devices is available, including egress switches, access switches, obstruction detection, and heat and smoke activation, all fully tested to Annex H of BS 8524-1. The system is fully compliance-tested and incorporates fail-safe functionality, enabling reliable operation even during mains power failure.
Manufacture and construction are in accordance with Warrington Fire Research Establishment testing, including Warrington Test WF 341175, and relevant sections of BS EN 16034, ensuring consistent quality, performance and regulatory confidence.

Fabric | Fire curtains are formed from a fire rated fabric 0.54 mm thick stainless steel wire reinforced, with a specially formulated Aluminum pigmented and fire retardant polymer which provides a heat reflecting surface as well as other properties for smoke and fire. Guidance for specification option: The fabric has been independently tested for fire propagation in accordance with BS 476-6 in addition to this it also conforms to BS 476-7 which relates to surface spread of flame and in accordance with approved document B 2006. As a requirement of BS EN 1634-1, the fabric and curtain are tested as a complete assembly in compliance with BS EN 1363-1 and BS EN 1363-2. |
Barrel | Fire curtain barrels are manufactured from carbon steel tube, tube size dependent on the overall size of the unit and deflection calculated to conform to British Standards. |
