This project was a fit-out of an existing commercial space to form a state of the art outpatients unit and imaging facility.Key to the clients design on this project is the need for products that are functional and compliant with a healthcare environment.SDS Dfendoor is used in our unique American Black Walnut finish, giving the look and feel of a luxury hotel and yet enabling compliance at all times and guaranteeing top level aesthetics.The project is effectively complemented by the use of the coordinating range of Dfend wall protection, enabling discreet protection of common areas of damage in this robustly trafficked environment.

The Friarage Surgical Centre is part of a £35.5 million NHS initiative, replacing ageing facilities with a purpose-built, state-of-the-art centre designed to double the hospital’s surgical capacity - from 5,000 to nearly 10,000 operations annually.   The centre features six main operating theatres, two minor theatres, and a dedicated surgical admissions and day hub, all aimed at delivering world-class care closer to home for local patients. SDS Dfendoor, Shieldoor and Lamdoor were supplied due to their durable nature. These post-formed doors are built to withstand years of intensive use in a demanding clinical environment, while high-quality finishes enhance the overall look and feel of the new centre. The Friarage Surgical Centre project demonstrates SDS’s capability to deliver robust, attractive, and clinically sound door solutions for complex healthcare environments. Through early collaboration, technical expertise, and a focus on both durability and design, SDS played a key role in realising a facility that will serve the North Yorkshire community for decades to come. 

As a leading provider of fire safety door solutions for healthcare, our doorsets are recognised for their superior fire resistance and durability. In this particular project, SDS was selected to supply Dfendoor 156 doorsets to provide optimal protection for patients and staff.This fire door supply and fit project between Fire Door Experts Ltd. and GRAHAM Group at Hinchingbrooke Hospital was initiated in late 2022. Following this began an extensive and detailed procurement journey to ensure that all doors once vested and in storage were correctly specified and manufactured. SDS is dedicated to delivering innovative and reliable fire door solutions that exceed customer expectations. We are proud to have contributed to the enhanced safety of Hinchingbrooke Hospital and look forward to future opportunities to protect lives and property.

The JR provides acute medical and surgical services including trauma, intensive care and cardiothoracic services. It is situated in Headington, about three miles east of Oxford city centre. It is the largest of the Trust’s hospitals, covering around 66 acres.SDS was pleased to work with Mclaughlin & Harvey Contractors and to have been specified by Lewis Hickey Architects.The new extension to the existing Emergency Department was designed to provide better use of space, more diagnostic equipment and improved dignity and privacy for patients, as well as improved turnaround times for ambulances.Facilities include an extra nine bays for the immediate care of seriously ill patients, including a paediatric resuscitation room and an isolation room. An additional CT scanner with control room, as well as a nurses’ bay and improved bereavement and relatives’ rooms, will also be provided in the new area.Dfendoor doors were used throughout this scheme, where impact-resistant doors were key to maintaining fire door and infection control compliance throughout the busy area.A wide range of SDS colours were used from Midnight Blue through to Lupin – also our range of wall protection products were used in matching colours to create a very impressive finish throughout.

The redevelopment at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital required tailored door solutions for one of the largest healthcare infrastructure schemes in the region. SDS supplied over 650 high-spec doorsets, helping the Trust deliver a safe, modern environment across maternity, neonatal, surgical and critical care areas. A variety of vision panels were supplied for this project to accommodate all the various room uses, including PVC bead Clearglaze vision panels mixed with our Priviglaze and Priviglaze+ vision panels. Engineered for durability in demanding clinical settings, SDS Dfendoor and Shieldoor doorsets deliver long-lasting performance and high-quality finishes that elevate the environment of the new centre.Luton and Dunstable University Hospital’s Acute Services and New Ward Block redevelopment demonstrates SDS's ability to deliver robust and technically compliant door solutions at scale, whilst remaining visually appealing. In a high stakes clinical environment, SDS has partnered to create a safe and future ready facility to promote patient safety and help provide high-quality clinical services. 

The facility is designed to support both physical and emotional healing in a home-like environment. Memorial Houston Medical places prehabilitation and postoperative care at the heart of its approach,  an ethos reflected in the space itself, which has been purposefully built to promote faster recovery.SDS was chosen to deliver elegant, durable doorsets that aligned with the client’s vision for a premium patient experience.High-quality finishes and standout material choices, including American Black Walnut and brass ironmongery, distinguished this project from standard healthcare environments.SDS supplied 70 door leaves and 51 Dfendoor doorsets across the new facility with a focus on balancing high-quality performance with a luxury finish. 

The refurbishment of Theatre 2 formed part of Milton Keynes University Hospital’s investment in upgrading surgical environments with advanced medical systems. The works required specialist doorsets capable of supporting high infection-control standards, radiation protection, and accessibility features, while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. Dfendoor and Shieldoor were supplied due to their enhanced durability and infection control features. whilst remaining fully compliant with NHS theatre standards.The Milton Keynes University Hospital Theatre 2 refurbishment highlights SDS’s ability to deliver specialist, compliant, and durable door solutions for surgical settings. Through tailored specifications, including lead shielding, contrasting finishes and infection-control detailing, SDS played a key role in supporting the hospital’s drive to provide world-class surgical care. 

Newham Hospital provides all the services expected of a local hospital including emergency care, surgery, children’s health, women’s health, maternity services, specialist medicine, long-term care and diagnostics.They see more than 500 patients in their A&E department every day and have one of the largest maternity units in the UK with more than 6,000 births each year. Their state-of-the-art Rainbow Centre is fully geared up to meet the needs of their young patients and their families in a child-friendly environment and are dementia friendly across the whole site.This project was a conversion of the first floor office space to form a 24 bed ward at this busy London Hospital.The client chose Dfendoors in American White Oak and Peppermint to create a really effective contrasting finish.This was cleverly matched with the Dfend wall protection products.

The North Hampshire Hospitals, part of the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, includes services that provide specialist services for rare or complex illnesses for patients across the UK.With links to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust for some specialised services.In 1999, it became the first hospital in Europe to perform surgery using equipment operated by voice commands.The Dfendoor doorsets consisted of an Aqua door frame and leaf with a textured finish, giving the hospital a unique yet minimalistic design that helped deliver a durable finish and a desirable aesthetic, and clearly demonstrates that sometimes, less is more.

Based in Central London, this private hospital boasts a clean, sharp design.The entire hospital is fitted with bespoke products to accentuate the premium setting. This Private Healthcare branch has been refurbished to equip SDS Dfendoor doorsets in Woodgrain effect, combining stunning looks, durability and hygiene.This great looking project boasts many bespoke features, including 3 metre high woodgrain encapsulated SDS Dfendoors, including doors with a different finish and colour on each side, and colour matched cladding. SDS is proud to have added to the overall design and execution quality.

SDS were pleased to work with Kier Construction and IBI Architects on this exciting project, manufacturing and delivering bespoke Dfendoor PVC post-formed doorsets for the Theatres and Endoscopy areas. The design team chose from our wide range of finishes for the scheme, opting for the ever-popular Snowflake and Carbon colours. Dfendoor offers a well proven solution for heavy-use areas within a hospital. The doors for Sancta Maria were designed with x-ray and laser protected viewing panels, ideal for their environment. This combined with the robustness of these doors, makes them an effective, functional and competitive choice.

The St Thomas’ Hospital, part of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, is adding to the services of the Evelina Hospital by including this Care Unit on their South Wing.With the views across the River Thames overlooking the Houses of Parliament, this project incorporates a vast range of SDS products: SDS Dfendoor doorsets, Dfend wall protection, and the artistic combined use of Defend and hydroclean PVC sheeting. The great combination of design, product and craftsmanship has resulted in a spectacularly fun project.Two different types of PVC sheeting were used on this project, Dfend; with its impact-resistant finish and Hydroclean; which possesses a smooth hygienic finish. The combination of these different textured sheets provides a visually unique result. The curves and angles had to be surveyed in detail to ensure the intricate jointing was a perfect match; SDS Image Series – Inlay. The Dfend textured sheet was also used for digital printing of more complex designs, creating SDS Image Series.

SDS supported the transformation and upgrade of the MRI Department at Circle Health’s Sloane Hospital, delivering a high-performance package of doorsets that balanced functionality, safety and premium aesthetics expected within a private healthcare setting.One of the primary objectives was to ensure safe and efficient access for staff and patients, including safe movement of specialist scanning equipment. The doorsets had to integrate smoothly with MRI safety requirements, including warning-light systems, X-ray protection, and infection-control-friendly design with no recesses for dust or bacteria to collect. Doorsets were supported by Priviglaze systems, integrated warning lights, and high-quality stainless-steel ironmongery, creating a visually impressive and fully compliant clinical environment.The Circle Health Sloane MRI Department project showcases SDS’s ability to respond quickly, deliver complex specialist products, and support contractors under intense time pressures. The client also required high durability to withstand the impacts of beds, wheelchairs and porters, making SDS’s PVC post-formed doorsets the ideal choice. With a complete package of Dfendoor, Lamdoor, Shieldoor, Priviglaze and advanced warning-light integrations, SDS provided a solution that is clinically robust with a high-quality finish - perfectly suited to a modern private hospital environment.

This state-of-the-art private healthcare facility was recognised as a finalist in the Health Care Development of the Year category at the Scottish Property Awards 2024, reflecting its design excellence and forward-thinking approach.Dfendoor was chosen for it's high-performance, hygienic and durable doorsets for private healthcare.
