When the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) were looking to move into their new Head Office, just off Princess Street in the heart of Edinburgh, Michael Laird Architects asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for the Category B fit-out of the existing building. Working closely with Souness & Boyne, Planet Partitioning used p100 frameless double glazing system throughout to create meeting rooms and offices with high acoustic performance, in a simple grey design. The eight-week job also involved installing minimal framework double glazed doors throughout the offices, to complement the p100 double glazed partitions.

This project gave us the opportunity to use Sonik Slide as our new acoustic pocket double glazed sliding door, which can be specified as a single or double door set within its own unique frameless glass. On this project, Sonik Slide double door sets were specified and installed. Sonik Slide has been designed to focus on ease of installation and to allow light to flood through the workplace whilst ensuring high acoustic performance is maintained.

The ThinkingWall Stor is our versatile mobile whiteboard with built in storage shelving. We were asked to create a custom version for a client in Birmingham. This custom mobile whiteboard with shelves is wider than the standard Stor and with additional shelves to provide extra storage space. Each unit is 1200mm wide, 1925mm high and has almost double the standard depth at 600mm. The shelves are adjustable so the height can be increased or decreased depending on the items being stored.

Designed with sustainability and a targeted 5-star green star rating in mind, the building has drawn on Alspec products which feature high performance credentials for the floor-to-ceiling glazing and sliding doors. On the façades, Hunter Evo 150mm Double Glazed Flush Framing was used to construct the interfaces between guests and the habitat. The Hunter framing can accommodate up to 40mm double glazed and is well suited to gently curved and faceted façades, such as featured in the dining and kitchen extension.

A barn conversion in the picturesque village of Witham Friary, near Bath, was completed using 10,000 Acme Natural Orange Double Camber clay plain tiles and plain angle clay ridges. The Natural Orange colour was selected to contrast with the local stonework and the traditional cedar shingles used on the vertical elevations and the central atrium between the two buildings. The unique double camber format of the clay plain tiles also adds a subtle texture and character to the roof with accentuated light and shade.

Number 48 Doughty Street was an important place in Charles Dickens’s life where he lived from 1837 until 1839. TRC carried out the full restoration of the existing double hung sash windows, which included remedial repairs, overhaul, draught exclusion and the replacement of the dormer windows with a bespoke sash windows with slim 12mm double glazed sealed units. Bauporte Doors had been asked to develop doors which should be flush with the facade once they are closed. For this building Bauporte developed straight single manual, straight double inground automatic and TALL Curved manual swing doors with special made heavy floor closers. The Eliminate swing doors are made out of Double Glazed Units, with the special design that the profile which is normally going around the glass, has now been put into the spacer of the glass. Due to this manor of construction the doors can be manufactured up to a height of 5000mm.

A stunning property on the Isle of Wight which was built around 1844 in the Italian style and situated within the Conservation Area of Ventnor. Lomax + Wood provided high performance, double glazed timber French doors and sash windows. The house combines quality wooden double glazed and weather-stripped Lomax + Wood windows and doors. The property was designed to be energy efficient with Celotex fitted in the majority of the house. This is another example of how well designed timber windows and doors can add to and enhance even the most sensitive renovation within a Conservation Area.

As one of Santander’s approved suppliers, Planet Partitioning was approached directly by the client to specify internal glass partitions and glass doors for the refurbishment of VIP meeting rooms at its UK headquarters. By installing p100 double-glazed partitioning and single and double Sonotec doors in all the VIP meeting rooms, Planet Partitioning achieved the look and the high sound attenuation levels required. Planet also installed electronic room booking systems and three-quarter-high switchable glass division panels for added privacy. FireTec doors on the ground floor help meet the building’s strict fire strategy requirements.

The Kennedy Building and Nuffield Department of Medicine building are part of a large research facility at Oxford University. Planet installed p100 double glazed partitioning system with a frosted glass decal pattern for visual contrast. Double glazed glass doors featured in all the meeting rooms and offices – some with venetian blinds for added privacy. Several offices run parallel to the laboratories and Planet used p20 for a slim-lined glass separation. Deflection heads were installed on all partition system wall cladding with back-painted glass screens throughout the main reception area

As part of ongoing improvements to Birmingham City University, Associated Architects, together with Willmott Dixon, asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for internal partitioning in the new purpose-built Curzon Building on the BCU campus. Planet designed and installed a combination of framed and frameless p20 single glazed demountable partitioning and p100 double glazed partitioning in the offices, meeting and lecture rooms, helping to meet strict sound attenuation requirements. Single and double glazed doors and several fire-rated screens feature throughout the building, alongside fire-rated and non fire-rated partitioning.

The £27 million Art and Design Academy is the first phase of John Moores University campus masterplan. Rick Mather Architects specified 32 Stainless Steel Howe Green access covers, ranging from the 7500 Series to the 1050 Series, to enable easy and safe access to underfloor services in a number of locations. The panels were individually manufactured to match the size of the Charcon Appalachian stone floor slabs and to blend seamlessly with the surroundings. Featuring double seals, the access covers meet the highest standards of hygiene and security as well as being corrosion and maintenance-free.

24-25 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair offers high-quality office space. Having been completely reconstructed behind its imposing double fronted period façade in the 1980’s, the building underwent a major back-to-frame refurbishment in 2018 to modernise the space. With two entrances to work with, the contractor needed a high-quality entrance matting system that would befit its location, whilst also providing superior performance from a relatively small area of matting. Two bespoke entrance designs were created to complement the aesthetics using INTRAdisc bronze capsules and INTRAform Double Module cut directly into the ceramic flooring.

The new Willesden Green Cultural Centre opened in the summer of 2015. At the heart of the building, Planet installed a triangular atrium using p20 single glazed demountable partitioning with deflection head detail to provide natural light throughout the building. Offices and meeting rooms on Level 2 feature p100 double-glazed acoustic partitioning with SonoTec double-glazed doors, for high acoustic performance. For the stairways at either end of the building, Planet installed fire-rated glazed screens. For one stairway, Planet installed EI120 and EI60 fire integrity and insulated screens, and EI60 fire integrity and insulation screens for the other.

EQT Partners, have offices everywhere from Amsterdam to Shanghai, and recently acquired a new space in London to house their rapidly growing team. Scott Brownrigg approached Planet Partitioning requesting a glazed partitioning and door package. In areas where high acoustics were the priority, such as meeting rooms and the Boardroom, double-glazed LOFT54, partnered with double-glazed IsoPro doors, were specified.Additionally, the IsoPro doors had banding applied, to match the corresponding LOFT54 partitioning. Where acoustic performance did not need to be exceptionally high, p20 glazed partitioning screens and IsoTec slim framed glass doors were used for office fronts.

For the basement laboratories, Planet used p100 demountable double-glazed full-height partitions with two layers of 15mm toughened glass to reach heights in excess of three metres. The partitioning framework was set within the steel grid structure, ensuring an industrial look and incorporating slimline single-glazed and SonoTec double glazed doors with integrated venetian blinds. Planet provided a full blackout option for lab work on sensitive ancient human remains. Planet AG was responsible for the full-height atrium glazing, using 19.5mm toughened laminated glass. It required carefully spaced holes for securing attenuators that control airflow within the building.

Surespan manufactured a double glazed sliding access hatch for use on a private residential apartment in London. The 2640 (103?) x 2020mm (79?) hatch was electrically operated via a key switch for easy operation and allowed access to the roof providing views across the London skyline. The sliding cover was finished in grey external polyester powder coating with a white internal finish. The 35.5mm sealed double glazed unit comprised of Pilkington 6mm toughened K polished all round outer pane, 20mm Warm Edge silver spacer Bar argon filled, Pilkington 9.5mm toughened & laminated innerpane, divided into two panes.

All the Horizontal Cladding installed on the project was our Double Chamfer/ Rhombus profile, NWCC1. The Vertical Cladding being supplied in the form of our T&G NWC2 board. Both of these profiles are machined from an Ex 25 x 150mm section size, to the grading criteria of Western Larch as specified by the Architect at Aedas/AHR. Over time this timber will weather to the silver/ grey that can be expected of from Larch.

With 450 windows for complete renovation, bespoke slim double-glazed windows were manufactured to match existing window profiles, and fitted into the newly renovated frames. Preserving the original sashes was as important as improving the buildings’ energy efficiency. Andy Meachen, Sandhurst: “Ventrolla provided an excellent service and we were very pleased with the final result. We have really benefited from the renovation work as the building is noticeably warmer, there are no more draughts and the windows open easily. We were very concerned about maintaining the aesthetics of the building and being sympathetic to its heritage, Ventrolla managed this beautifully.”

Chevron is an American multinational energy company, active in more than 180 countries. Planet had carried out all the internal partitioning for Chevron’s new 110,000 sq. ft. building eight years previously and stood the test of time, so JM Architects asked that Planet draw up the specification to meet the client’s acoustic performance requirements. Using p100 double glazed partitioning for all meeting rooms and offices ensured high acoustic performance, while applying a ‘V’ shaped orange design on both the inside and outside provided contrast and depth. Installing double glazed doors also complemented p100 in looks and performance.

Laing O’Rourke approached Planet Partitioning for help refurbishing the Abercrombie building and fitting out a brand new, purpose-built structure adjoining it. Planet used p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 relocatable single glazed partitioning in a wide range of formats throughout both buildings. For areas where sound attenuation was important, p100 double glazed partitioning at cellular soaces – and for rooms and offices requiring additional privacy, integrated venetian blinds. For communal areas, p20 XL reached to heights of over three metres still using the 27mm framework line. Planet also installed a range of fire-rated frameless screens throughout the buildings.
