Calvert Trust, Kielder

Innova Care Concepts

The Calvert Trust was set up to provide a fully-accessible luxury holiday home for people with disabilities and their families to stay in. As such, they wanted to make sure that any accessible equipment included in their lodges and chalets was as discreet as possible. We worked with them on their Kielder campus, and created bespoke Integralift hidden hoist systems to go around the double bed from either side. You wouldn't even know they were there! Olympic Velodrome, London, which features a distinct double-curved roof. The 6,000 seat stadium incorporated 13,000 sqm of Kalzip Standing Seam roof, eight 100m long roof lights, 420lm of bullnose to the perimeter and 22 movement joints. The Velodrome is the most sustainable venue on the Olympic Park in terms of design and construction. Meeting the architect’s vision to create a bullnose perimeter that flowed and wrapped over the roof , a support system was designed to enable the ‘build’ tolerances to be overcome in all directions avoiding having visible fixings ensured the smooth, curved appearance was maximised

IVC design double at Saongroup

Carpet tile and LVT from IVC have been used in a colourful, graphic scheme at the Dublin offices of Saongroup, a world leading online recruitment company. Demonstrating the ability of IVC to deliver solutions across product types, the installation saw over 1,000m2 of IVC floors used throughout office desk and common areas, using bold pattern and texture to separate areas. Specified by the highly talented Dublin-based interior design firm, Think Contemporary, the flooring scheme builds from a base of Shared Path carpet tiles from the Art Style collection.

Bespoke Double Leaf Hatch

Surespan has supplied 140 degree opening hatch doors for the Kielder Observatory, the UK’s latest astronomical facility in the north of England. Charles Barclay Architects commissioned Surespan to design and build two sets of hatch doors for the roof and the front of the Observatory’s two rotating turrets – one to house a 20” Pulsar manual telescope and the other for a small Mead 14” telescope. Electrically operated using a remote control via 24v dc actuators, the hatch doors are specially designed to open in a specific sequence.

Completing the works in three phases, Ventrolla have installed the unique patented Sash Removal System, made repairs to sills, manufactured new double glazed sash and casement windows which are all fitted with our Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System. Double Goods Lifts Project in Cambridge

Creating a new logistical and warehousing space in Cambridge, project managers at a new premises at Farboud Innovation Park got in touch with our Goods Lift Manager, Nick Gibbons. They were looking to include 2 high capacity goods lifts on the project to improve efficiency at the premises. They decided our box goods lift was ideal for the project. The quick turnaround and additional hard-wearing features to prevent damage when loading made it suitable for goods logistics. The team chose a shutter gate on the upper floor, but swing doors on the lowest floor for alternative loading efficiency.

Double Leaf Roof Hatch - National Oilwell Varco

Staff at National Oilwell Varco were unable to build tall manifold assemblies due to the restricted height of their factory. The only solution was for Surespan to open up the roof on a temporary basis. Surespan manufactured a 4000 x 4300mm double leaf roof hatch which enabled an external crane to lift the manifold units in through the roof. The electrically operated hatch opens in an automated sequence, controlled by a small PLC and activated by the turn of a key. It was specially designed to open and stay open utilising strut locking to withstand agreed wind conditions.

Nestled in the trendy Shoreditch area of London, Golden Bee is contemporary and eclectic bar which showcases a number of unusual and exciting wall and floor tiles. With theatrical design elements taking centre stage, Solus Ceramics supplied tiles to create a bold design statement. Shaped rich black tiles from the Diamond range were fixed to a grand feature wall to create an angular contrast to the bright, gilded bar area. The diamond shaped tiles create a stunning optical masterpiece with the delicate 3D texture adding a sense of depth. Hexagon floor tiles complete the project evoking the idea of honeycomb.

Affinity255 creates dream floor for Natural Bed Company showroom

Luxury vinyl tiles from Polyflor’s innovative Affinity255 PUR flooring collection were used to create a stunning herringbone design floor at Natural Bed Company’s showroom in Sheffield. 290 m² of Affinity255 PUR vinyl flooring in the Seasoned Grey Oak design was installed in the shop floor area by Sheffield based contractors MG Flooring on this showroom project managed by Structural Interiors and designed by Studio Gedye architects. Caro Whiteside from Natural Bed Company commented, “We’re delighted with the finished look of our new showroom. Our Affinity255 herringbone floor looks so stylish and was quick to install."

Bespoke, high-back, double-sided, modular units at Royal Docks

The largest of the three Royal Group of Docks in East London, Royal Albert Dock was first opened in 1880. Royal Albert Dock as a whole is now being brought back to life in a massive project, designed as a concept by Gillespies landscape architects. Furnitubes developed the designs through to manufacturing detail for the high back double-sided modules four assemblies in total. The seats comprise iroko slats on an internal steel structure, with adjustable feet for levelling. Lighting will be installed so that the seats form attractive features at night as well as during the day.

BUPA Oak Lodge - 71 Bed Nursing Home

Providing specialist dementia care facilities as well as a day centre for the elderly. The £5.7million development was delivered by BUPA and Southampton City Council. FUSION® Commercial stair balustrade was installed on the main staircase to provide a safe and stylish barrier. The system’s combination of minimalist oak handrails and sleek tubular balusters in a contemporary brushed nickel finish complemented the building’s modern décor and other good quality furnishings, whilst its availability off the-shelf meant there were no lengthy lead times. Richard Burbidge also supplied wall mounted handrails for installation throughout the building.

It needed to be installed quickly because, time scales were tight. Finally it needed to offer a rapid drying time to allow completion of floor coverings.

Exterior Accoya cladding has been selected by the University of Minnesota for The Tashijan Bee Pollination Centre. Designed by Architects MSR, 8,000 square feet of Accoya Burn and Brushed Black, coated in Delta Millworks ebony SF, features on the siding of the building and was chosen due to its durability and sustainable properties. Plus, in keeping with the ecological mission of the build, Accoya was the perfect fit due to its green credentials – thereby; the building meets the National B3 Sustainability standards as well as State of Minnesota Sustainable Building 2030 requirements.

Bonhams Auction House bids…and buys steel windows from Clement!

Bonhams is a fabulously idiosyncratic 1930s building, situated on prestigious New Bond Street, in West London. The building is Art Deco in style, listed and within a Conservation Area. Architects Lifschutz Davidson & Sandilands led a £30million restoration project and sensitivity was key. The work included replacing the original steel windows on the front elevation facing Woodstock Street and Blenheim Street. Clement W20 steel windows were chosen to match the design of the existing windows. The new windows were fitted with toughened, laminated glass and silicone fronted using dark bronze silicone (to replicate the early putty fronting).

Dublin Apartments, the performance benefits to Magply boards have been utilised in the specification of an advanced offsite system being employed in the construction of a new apartment building.

The five storey building is being clad across different elevations with either the Permarock exterior wall insulation system or the Dutch manufactured Brickworld brick slip system. Both are on Rockwool material fixed to an outside layer of 9mm Magply sheathing which also provides an additional 1 hour fire protection to the structure from the outside. : “Overall the Magply is easy to cut and fix, while as an MgO product it can get wet as many times as you want. That helps with programme timing while the price-point also makes it very affordable compared to other fire safe products'.
