Application

  • Emshield WFR CE is used to seal structural movement joints in both exterior and interior walls, where combinations of watertightness, fire-rating, sound attenuation and thermal-efficiency are required, especially for wide and high movement capability up to 100% of the joint width (+/- 50%), and with up to 4-hours fire resistance.
  • Emshield DFR CE is primarily used to seal structural movement / expansion joints in and between structural floor and deck slab, especially for wide (30 to 150mm or even more), and high movement capability, and with up to 4-hours fire resistance.
  • Emshield DFR CE and WFR CE eliminate the need for additional fire blankets, mineral wools, liquid sealants, cover plates, or any other fire stopping materials, joint sealants and insulation etc. The Emseal DFR-WFR-CE Systems provide unique and complete movement joint sealing solutions in many modern buildings and other facilities.

Description

Emshield DFR / WFR CE are CE-marked, ETA-certified, up to 4-hrs fire-rated, double-sided silicone-faced movement joints. They provide a watertight seal with 100% joint movement capability (+/- 50%), good sound attenuation, high and thermal insulation and long-term UV stability, for us within vertical (WFR) or horizontal (DFR) substrates, and with colour coordination possibilities.


The system includes water-repellant silicone sealing surfaces fully adhered to a fire-retardant impregnated foam backing. The symmetrical design allows either side to face out from an exterior or interior wall or floor/deck and to maintain a 1, 2, 3 or 4 hour fire resistance as required for the joints. The field-applied silicone bands ensure the face is completely watertight.


Each system profile is installed by fully bonding directly into the structural epoxy adhesive, which is field-applied to the prepared joint arrisses, with no mechanical fixings being required. Connections between each preformed section / piece are made using the field-applied intumescent sealant on the adjoining faces of the foam cross section, plus the field-applied silicone sealant continues across the join at the bellows’ edges.


Emshield DFR CE and WFR CE have been tested and certified in accordance with EN 1366-4, as well as EN 12154 and EN 12155 with no leakage with up to 1200 Pa of pressure. It also meets the requirements of ASTM E1966, ASTM E119 and ASTM E1399.

  • Joint movement capability up to 100% (+50% / -50% (100% total) of nominal material size (width) e.g. a nominal joint width of 100 mm sealed with Emshield DFR/WFR-CE, will safely accommodate up to 100mm movement from 50mm to 150mm, including frequent, cyclic movement. It can also accommodate movement in more than one plane.

This product can only perform its designed function if it, and the joint-gap into which it is installed, is sized to suit anticipated joint movements in consideration of the movement capability of the product and in consideration of the temperature at time of installation, and if it is installed in strict accordance with EMSEAL's installation instructions.
