Arbosil 1096 S is a one-part Low Modulus Neutral Cure Silicone Sealant which cures on exposure to moisture vapour to form an elastic silicone rubber.

Application

Recommended for use in many forms of construction including glass to glass joints, curtain wall assemblies, perimeter seals on curtain walling, perimeter sealing of polyester powder coated and PVCu frames and glazing of windows in swimming pool buildings. Suitable for use as a weather seal with structural glazed assemblies.

NB: It is not recommended for overpainting and use against natural stone.

Joint Size Suitability

Joint width

Minimum 6mm.

Maximum 25mm (single application); 50mm (multiple applications).

Joint depth

Minimum 10mm on porous substrates. Minimum 6mm on non-porous substrates.

Maximum 15mm.

Packaging

25 x 380ml Polyethylene Cartridges per box. Polyethylene Nozzles are included in each box.

Skin Time at 20ºC at 65 % RH: 8-12 minutes

Application Temperature: + 5ºC to + 50ºC

Service Temperature: - 50ºC to + 150ºC

Typical Shore Hardness: 25 - 30

Cure Rate at 20 ºC/ 65 % RH: 2mm/24 hours

Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most dilute acids and alkalis. Organic solvents may cause the sealant to swell and lose adhesion.

UV Resistance: Very good

Service Life: 25 years +

Movement Accommodation: Butt joints (movement in tension and compression): 50 %.

Lap joints (movement in shear): 100 %.

Backing

A combined joint filler/ bond breaker, such as closed cell foam polyethylene rod, should always be used to ensure that the sealant adheres only to the joint faces and not to the back.

Guidance for specification option:

Bond breaker tape should be used where the joint has been packed out with fibre-board.

Primer

A primer is not required for polyester powder coated surfaces, mill finished aluminium or anodized aluminium or glass.
