The designs included a new public square and multi-purpose shared spaces for culture, arts, leisure and tourism, incorporating 19 buildings of historic or architectural note.Larsen supplied silo-mixed bedding mortar and jointing mortars to aid installation of the paving in line with the programme.Larsen monitored material consumption closely and co-ordinated stock deliveries, plant maintenance and quality control checks.The links, walkways and open spaces include sunken gardens, stone cobble and flag paving, quality street furniture, glazed links and landscape works.The urban regeneration schemes at the Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square have achieved two Irish Planning Institute National Awards.

IrelandJob DetailsThe Giant’s Causeway Visitor’s Centre was designed by Heneghan Peng Architects who won an international competition for their design.The building is located on the Causeway Coastal Route and lies mostly underground with an accessible grass roof that blends seamlessly into the environment.The interior houses retail, cafeteria and interpretation areas. A large car park was created adjacent to the Visitor’s Centre.Specialist stone masons S McConnell & Sons installed 1200 square metres of black Antrim basalt paving and Larsen Streetscape FJM Eco in Charcoal was chosen to grout the paving.Larsen Streetscape FJM Eco is a BS7533 compliant, fibre-reinforced, fast-setting, flowing jointing grout mortar and was chosen for its quick, clean and durable installation of grout joints on the newly installed granite paving.

Job DescriptionConstruction of The MAC in St. Anne’s Square, Belfast, Northern IrelandJob DetailsThe MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) is situated in St. Anne’s Square in Belfast and serves as Northern Ireland’s flagship home for contemporary art.Construction of the six-storey high building began in November 2009, with doors opening on 19th April 2012.The MAC comprises two theatres, three art galleries, a rehearsal space, a dance studio, three education and workshop rooms, four offices for resident art groups, a café and bar, an artist-in-residence studio and one permanent artwork.Larsen supplied two products from their high performance Streetscape Eco range: GPM (Gun Pointable Mortar) and FJM (Flowable Jointing Mortar). These products assisted with the external stone paving.Larsen’s Chemcrete MP550 was added to the concrete to form the columns and beams. Chemcrete MR1 and ME2 were used in the bricklaying mortar for the brick walls.

Job DescriptionPublic Plaza at Titanic BelfastJob DetailsConstruction of Titanic Belfast® began in May 2009 in the Titanic Quarter at the top of the slipways where the Titanic was built.To form the basement of the building, 80,000 cubic metres of material were excavated from the site. Over 1,000 secant piles and 1,000 bearing piles were used. The basement concrete slab was 1.1m deep. The first concrete pour covered almost half a hectare to a volume of 4,200 cubic metres. It was the largest ever concrete pour on the island of Ireland.Work on the external public plaza commenced in June 2011, with the piazza paving beginning in September 2011.Larsen provided their fast setting, flowing jointing grout mortar, Streetscape Eco FJM, to assist with the installation of the paving.Titanic Belfast® opened on 31st March 2012 to coincide with the centenary of the birth of the world’s most famous ship.
