Aughinish Alumina is the largest European refinery plant manufacturing aluminium oxide (the basic raw material required for aluminium production). After a lengthy and demanding tendering procedure for one of currently largest waste disposal projects in Europe (attended by all important world´s manufacturers of polymeric insulation materials), JUTA managed to win the tender with high-density polyethylene geomembrane JUNIFOL (thickness 1,5 and 2,0 mm, both with smooth and textured surface, roll width 8,0 m).

All in-ground filtration reservoirs were lined using 2,5mm thick polyethylene geosynthetic barriers, complying with the strictest quality requirements (the total volume of BAM-certified membranes supplied to BER projectwas 400 000 m2).

This brownfield site had potential contaminated ground conditions where upon Geotechnical and Environmental Investigations were carried out to assist their client with their Planning Application.The JUTA Team carried out a free technical assessment of the scheme, and showed a cost saving to the client against the existing specified product to satisfy planning conditions and were able to offer our GP®1 Proprietary Gas Barrier protecting personnel from the ingress of Radon, Carbon Dioxide and Methane in accordance to BS8485:2015+A1:2019 Table 7 Resulting in a cost saving to the client.

JUTA UK is delighted to have provided Crufts with an outstanding synthetic surface for such a prestigious and well respected event within the Dog Agility community. For a long time we have been noticing common weaknesses of classic sports surfaces – too much hardness or softness, high moisture levels, dust, mud, durability, maintenance needs and constant play characteristics. With JUTAgrass all these issues are a thing of the past. JUTAgrass was installed throughout the show including the main arena, and the ‘Young Kennel Club’ agility area. We also supplied the press/interview area also to keep up the professional theme.

JUTA UK is leading the way with the new Facebook Data Centre in Ireland. As the first geosynthetic on site, JUTA Gas Protection geomembranes are being utilised to protect the building, and the future workers from Ground Gas emissions such as Methane, Carbon Dioxide and Radon. Following many months of working together in partnership with Baridek Services Ltd (Installer), JUTA UK Gas Protection membranes were selected to provide the foundation for future proofing the development. The Facebook project is split over two phases, Phase one will deliver two buildings with a gross floor area of 50,800 square meters.

A new fulfilment and distribution facility in the centre of Barcelona utilising high end robotic technology is treated to future proof gas protection with GP® TITANFLEX® protective barriers.

A ground-breaking initiative that certifies installers of gas membranes has been launched by JUTA UK and the British Board of Agrément working closely with specialist installer DMI and other industry partners.The new Gas Membrane Approved Installer Scheme is the culmination of three years’ work and is the first of its kind in the UK, delivering supply chain reassurance of high-quality products installed by competent, certified professionals to ensure safe outcomes.It is ‘absolutely right that competent and trained professionals should install these critical barrier applications, which play a key role in the built environment and are designed to last for the lifetime of structures into which they are installed. We talk as an industry about sustainable and resilient solutions for the built environment, and that means using the best possible products, independently certified, installed to the highest possible standards, designed to last for the lifetime of the structure.

Juta UK were involved in this scheme as the Brownfield site contained aggressive chemicals which were costly and difficult to remediate and remove. Residual hydrocarbons and ground gas hazards required prevention from entering the structure, which has a complex layout with basement and retaining elements. Juta were able to help at all stages in construction process from initial specification through to detailing to provide a sustainable solution which performs the intended function for the lifetime of the structure.

The Treatment lagoon at Market Rasen is formed by creation of an earthworks bunded area, which is then lined with JUTAMAT 5000 (GCL) as a secondary containment liner; overlain by JUNIFOL 2.00mm HDPE geomembrane as the primary containment liner. Once the lagoon is formed and lined the provision of a JUINFOL 1.00mm HDPE floating geomembrane cover to contain all odours is implemented. It is therefore possible to inflate the floating cover, providing a simple means of methane storage. Currently lagoons of this type may be constructed more for their methane generation than in the past.
