Aberdeen City Council’s 3Rs Project (Reorganise, Renovate, Rebuild) focused on the regeneration of its school estate. The project required durable and aesthetically-pleasing floor-coverings on a fast-turnaround.

Oldham Sixth Form College has installed 750m2 of Array carpet tiles from Heckmondwike’s Creative Range in its Student Support Hub. Heckmondwike’s Array carpet tile range features a mid-width rib design and a charcoal background enhanced with a subtle linear pattern. The Array range can be used in conjunction with Heckmondwike’s popular Broadrib range to provide borders or other stunning effects allowing endless design possibilities. Like all Heckmondwike’s products, tiles, such as Array, can be cut on-site without the risk of fraying, allowing individual flooring designs to be created and installed with ease.

Dreams, a prominent UK retailer, sought to create a modern, welcoming retail space in East Sheen. The store needed durable, aesthetically appealing flooring to handle high foot traffic and support its design. They chose Heckmondwike's Hobnail carpet sheet and Diamond entrance mat.Hobnail Carpet features a unique cobbled texture, ideal for high-traffic areas. Its 25dB impact noise reduction improves the shopping experience, while its anti-ravel texture ensures long-lasting durability and low maintenance costs.Diamond Entrance Mat provides excellent dirt and moisture control with its cobbled surface, preventing contaminants from entering the store. The mat was also customised with its logo, enhancing branding.Together, these products created a cohesive, stylish look, reinforced the store’s branding, and offered a cost-effective, durable solution. The flooring transformation improved both the store's functionality and the overall customer experience.

The Emmanuel Community School in Walthamstow is a new-build educational development designed to provide a modern, high-performing learning environment. The project was led by Kier Construction and received industry recognition as Winner of the 2025 Contract Flooring Journal (CFJ) Award for Best Use of Flooring in Education, celebrating both the Supacord specification and its high-quality installation.The school required a flooring solution that offered:Durability for high-footfall areas, including classrooms, corridors, and staircasesAcoustic performance to support concentrationSafety underfoot, particularly on stairsA cohesive, professional aesthetic throughout the buildingEase of maintenance and cleaningCompliance with sustainability standardsTo meet these needs, 700 m² of Supacord carpet tiles and 48 m² of Battleship entrance matting were installed by Westcotes Flooring, specialists in education and public-sector projects. Supacord tiles offered a Class 33 Heavy Contract rating, excellent acoustic properties, slip resistance, low maintenance, and BREEAM A+ certification, while Battleship matting enhanced durability and cleanliness at entry points.Installation included full subfloor preparation to ensure long-term performance, integration of entrance matting, and precise coordination across two floors and staircases. The project successfully combined performance, safety, and aesthetic appeal, creating a durable, comfortable, and visually cohesive learning environment.The award-winning outcome demonstrates Supacord’s suitability for demanding educational settings, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable, long-lasting, and sustainable flooring solution for schools and similar high-use environments.

From November 2024 to February 2025, Supacord carpet tiles were installed at Gathering Gallery in Soho, London, for A Message for Everybody, a solo exhibition by French artist Ndayé Kouagou. The exhibition combined performance, film, sculpture, and installation to explore themes of language, identity, and perception, creating a dreamlike, multi-sensory environment for visitors.Supacord carpet tiles played a central role in the exhibition, acting as both a visual and conceptual extension of Kouagou’s themes. Bold geometric motifs, including arrows and the letters ‘A’ and ‘Z’, guided visitor movement while symbolizing beginnings, endings, and nonlinear narratives. Supacord’s modular design allowed precise installation across the complex gallery layout, providing a durable, comfortable, and visually striking foundation for the immersive experience.Installation was carried out by Selby Contract Flooring, ensuring accuracy and quality, while all tiles were professionally uplifted and fully recycled at the end of the exhibition, supporting sustainability and circular design principles.Overall, the project demonstrates how thoughtful material selection and design collaboration can enhance both the function and conceptual impact of a cultural space, integrating practical performance with artistic intention.

The Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight’s Garden Village, a historic venue dating back to 1888, underwent a refurbishment to maintain comfort, durability, and acoustic performance for high visitor numbers. Originally built as a community assembly hall by William Hesketh Lever, the theatre retains distinctive architectural features, including its 1920s proscenium stage.For the project, Wellington Velour carpet in Claret was selected to provide a heritage-sensitive aesthetic, durability under heavy footfall, and acoustic benefits, reducing impact noise by 24dB. Its plush, traditional theatre feel complements the venue’s historic timberwork and plaster detailing while offering long-lasting performance in circulation areas, aisles, and the auditorium.Installation was carried out by Bogans Carpets, Liverpool, specialists in high-traffic and heritage settings, following tessellated layout specifications. The installation preserved the theatre’s historic features while delivering a seamless, functional, and visually striking finish.Overall, the project highlights how Wellington Velour balances durability, acoustic comfort, and heritage aesthetics, ensuring the Gladstone Theatre remains a resilient and inviting cultural venue for future generations.

Diamond and Supacord were specified for the new Gloucester Academy, creating a robust, neutral base for the minimalistic, contemporary design of this new school. 100m² of Diamond entrance carpet was specified for the entrance and transition areas, thus protecting the Supacord carpet installed within the classrooms. Diamond and Supacord were selected as they are renowned for being able to withstand the high volumes of foot traffic associated with schools.

One of the largest JD Sports stores underwent a major renovation, focusing on creating a clean, welcoming, and highly functional entrance for customers. To achieve this, they chose Heckmondwike’s Hippo entrance matting in Anthracite for its durability and aesthetic appeal. The primary challenge was selecting a matting solution that could handle high foot traffic while maintaining a polished look. The Hippo matting was ideal, thanks to its heavy-duty, high-performance fibres that trap dirt, moisture, and debris. Its rubber waffle backing offers a non-slip, stable surface, enhancing safety and reducing movement. Since installation, the mat has exceeded expectations, reducing dirt and maintenance costs while enhancing the store’s overall appearance. The combination of style, practicality, and durability has made the Hippo matting an essential addition to the store, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more inviting entrance.

Moonfleet Manor Hotel, located on the Jurassic Coast in Weymouth, Dorset, recently upgraded its children’s play areas and games room with new carpet. They chose Supacord sheet flooring in Green, Pebble, and Kingfisher, covering around 1,200 square meters. Supacord, known for its extensive colour range, durability, and easy maintenance, was ideal for these high-traffic spaces. Its vibrant colors enhanced the atmosphere, while its durability ensured it could withstand active use. Manufactured by Heckmondwike, Supacord offers both functionality and aesthetic appeal, making it a perfect choice for family-friendly environments like the hotel. The project was completed with expert installation by Galliott Carpets.

The Northstowe Education Campus in Cambridgeshire is a £45 million, all-through educational development completed in summer 2020. Designed by Frank Shaw Architects and constructed by Kier, the campus serves over 2,300 students across a secondary school, sixth form, primary school, and SEN facility, forming a central hub for the sustainable new town of Northstowe.The project required a flooring solution that could withstand high-traffic areas, provide acoustic benefits, support inclusive learning, ensure durability, and meet sustainability standards. To meet these needs, 4,700 m² of Supacord carpet tiles were supplied by Heckmondwike and installed by Blade Flooring. Orion School was eager to incorporate its ‘recognising the star in everyone’ ethos into its carpet design. Ofsted Outstanding school incorporated stars in several different Supacord colours throughout the corridor areas.

Broadrib and Array was specified as part of the refurbishment of Portland House – one of Worthing & Adur Councils’ main administration buildings. The project involved the supply of over 2000m² of Heckmondwike commercial carpet tiles, including Broadrib, Array and Diamond in Charcoal. Allowed for the creation of a contemporary, yet durable, work space.

The Pudsey Sixth Form College, a purpose-built £11.4 million facility in West Yorkshire, opened in September 2025, accommodating 600 students aged 16–18. Delivered in partnership with Luminate Education Group and three local secondary schools, the college strengthens post-16 education provision in the region. Constructed by Caddick Construction, the building prioritises sustainability, adaptability, and student wellbeing.As part of this vision, Supacord carpet tiles were specified throughout teaching and circulation areas to provide a robust, low-maintenance flooring solution suitable for high-traffic educational spaces. A diverse palette of colours, including Steel Grey, Flint, Orange, Yellow, Onyx, Emerald, and Blue Moon, was used to support interior design, create zoned layouts, and aid navigation. •An OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ Rated school, the Ormiston Venture Academy in Norwich, specified Supacord carpet with inlaid bespoke logo mats from Heckmondwike. •A brand new entrance plaza provided a focal point for the new academy, with Heckmondwike called upon to produce a bespoke mat with the school’s new branding. •Supacord in Steel Grey was used extensively in the school, particularly in corridors and some classrooms, creating a neutral base for more vibrant furniture.

•Think Apartments provide value for money residential accommodation for all lengths of stay in the heart of London. •Atrium Building in Maltings Place, Tower Bridge Road, formerly housed the Sarsons Vinegar Brewery and was redeveloped to provide modern apartments. •Dreadnought entrance area carpet was installed in the corridors and entrance areas due to its durability and low maintenance costs.

Fibre bonded Array carpets provided durability and performance in this high-traffic environment. Carpet tiles could be cut on-site without the risk of fraying. Matched the University’s corporate colour scheme and complemented the interiors of other buildings on campus.

The West Downs Centre at the University of Winchester is a £40 million landmark development, serving as a hub for the university’s Digital Technologies, Business, and Management programmes. Fully operational in the 2021/2022 academic year, the building combines teaching, learning, social, and cultural spaces within a single architecturally striking facility.The design emphasises individual and collective wellbeing, reflecting the university’s commitment to mental health, sustainability, and long-term social value.The project achieved recognition as the first UK university building to meet the WELL Building Standard, which evaluates how buildings support human health and wellbeing.A notable element of the project is the installation of 4,500 square metres of Broadrib carpet tiles by local contractor Smith Brothers Marine. Broadrib was chosen for its sustainability, performance, and acoustic benefits, holding a BREEAM A+ rating and providing up to 20dB impact noise reduction, critical in a building designed to promote calm, focus, and positive mental wellbeing in learning and social environments.Overall, the West Downs Centre sets a new benchmark for sustainable, health-focused, and socially valuable higher education buildings in the UK.

Whetstone Junior Football Club, located in Leicester, is a youth sports organisation focused on nurturing young football talent. The club recently sought a custom solution to improve its entrance area. Their main requirements included incorporating their logo for brand visibility, ensuring durability due to high foot traffic, ease of maintenance, and keeping costs within budget. The solution was a bespoke logo mat from Heckmondwike, designed to meet all these needs. The mat featured the club's logo prominently, matched their colors, and was crafted from a durable blend of polypropylene and recycled polyester. It was installed seamlessly, enhancing the clubhouse's visual appeal while being easy to clean and resistant to stains. The mat has been praised for its quality, and it has helped reinforce the club's brand identity, provided functionality, and is a cost-effective, long-lasting addition to the facility.
