Care homes get colour identity from Crown Paints

Akari Care, a nationwide residential care home provider, enlisted Crown to create a uniform refurbishment programme for its extensive portfolio of properties last year. Crown Paints Colour Service created six new dementia friendly colour schemes include mauve, pink, turquoise, natural, green, citrus and terracotta. Ideal for high-traffic areas, Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt was specified for all walls in the corridor, lounge and bedroom areas while Crown Trade Clean Extreme Mould Inhibiting Scrubbable Matt was specified for the bathrooms. Crown Trade Clean Extreme Antibacterial Durable Acrylic Eggshell will be used in the kitchens.

Crown Paints has repackaged its polished performer – one of the most popular products in the Crown Trade range among specifiers – to highlight its class-leading capabilities. New designs for the Crown Trade Clean Extreme suite of products highlight that the product is 100 per cent more stain resistant than standard matt vinyl emulsion paint - and can be scrubbed up to 10,000 times.

Colour co-ordination for housing scheme with Crown Trade Fastflow

A Midlands-based housing association turned to Crown Trade Fastflow to deliver a splash of colour, with a low odour application and fast-drying times for the comfort and convenience of residents. Lyng Community Association, a not-for-profit organisation, brought in Crown Paints to specify the pioneering water-based system for the redecoration of corridors in three blocks of flats in West Bromwich. Doors, window sills and skirting boards were decorated with Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss, over Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat. The work was carried out by Hankinson Painting Contractors from their West Bromwich site.

Crown brings colour to the Danish Living Room

The very best of Nordic design found a home at this year’s London Design Fair (September 20th -24th) in the shape of the stunning Danish Living Room, a unique exhibition space which showcases a selection of inspirational products, materials and styles that capture and celebrate Danish culture. Crown Paints provided the attractive backdrop to the installation by donating 70 litres of its Clean Extreme Scrubabble Matt in a range of complementary colours to create an immersive visitor experience. After the show, the walls and ceilings were painted back to their original colour using Crown's Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt.

Crown Decorating Centres make a triple donation to community projects

Exeter, Blackburn and Cambridge Crown Decorating Centres have donated paint to community projects. Devon's Kingsway Meadow Centre refurbished it's interior with Crown Trade Full Undercoat and Crown Trade Matt Vinyl donated by Exeter Crown Decorating Centre. Brockholes Nature Reserve received a donation of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat and Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Satin paint for its restaurant refurbishment from Blackburn Crown Decorating Centre. Cambridge Crown Decorating Centre donated Crown Trade Clean Extreme and Crown Trade Eggshell paint to The C3 Church to refurbish the interior of a local resident’s home.


Crown Paints has donated a selection of its most popular paint products to create a vibrant learning hub as part of a community make-over project organised by national contractor, Novus Property Solutions. The project involved refurbishing a dilapidated prefab building for Bromley Pensnett Primary School in Birmingham, to create the new Novus Learning Hub which will become a valuable resource for the wider community as well as school pupils and staff. Crown Decorating Centres delivered the products needed; Crown Trade Acrylic Eggshell; Crown Trade Vinyl Matt; Crown Trade’s Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat and Gloss and Sadolin Superdec.

Crown Paints 2018 Sustainability Report looks to the future

Crown Paints has set out its environmental targets and looks back at the successes achieved in 2017 in its annual Sustainability Report. The report brings together all aspects of Crown Paints’ commitment to the environment. Crown has significantly reduced its water usage and waste, and successfully implemented a new ‘Safety Excellence’ programme. Crown Paints has achieved the transition to the revised ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems standard, ISO 14001:2015, which has more emphasis on top management involvement and continual improvement. Six Crown Paints products now hold verified Environmental Product Declarations complying with European Standard EN 15804.


Crown Paints has secured a prestigious agreement with Bournemouth University which will see products from across the Crown Trade range used for future new build and refurbishment projects. As the University’s sole supplier of paints and specialist coatings, Crown’s has worked closely with the Bournemouth University’s facilities department to devise a bespoke paint package and colour scheme to provide long term cost benefits. Crown Trade’s high performance Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt and Acrylic Eggshell, and water-based Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss and will now form part of the University’s official Design Standards Manual.

Crown Paints announce Apprentice Decorator of the Year finalists

Eight aspiring apprentice decorators will soon be going head-to-head in the final of this year’s national Crown Paints Apprentice Decorator of the Year competition held during the WorldSkills UK LIVE event in Birmingham. The annual competition, which is now in its 39th year, is organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and sponsored by Crown Paints along with other industry leaders such as British Gypsum. Hundreds of apprentices currently enrolled on painting and decorating courses competed this year, hoping to hone their skills and set themselves apart from their peers.

Crown Paints Apprentice Decorator of the Year finalists confirmed

The regional heats of the prestigious Apprentice Decorator of the Year competition, sponsored by Crown Paints, have completed and eight decorators are ready to take part in the national final in November. Apprentice decorators from Scotland, Wales, the North West, Yorkshire and Humberside, West Midlands, and the South West will go on to compete in the final, held during the WorldSkills UK LIVE event at Birmingham’s NEC. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Crown Paints’ sponsorship of the competition, which is organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Clean and contemporary lines, an atmosphere of mystery and drama and a natural, rural patchwork effect are the three dominant themes in Crown Paints’ latest, on-trend Colour Influences. Three palettes have been developed for the Autumn/Winter 2017 season, Considered, Intrigue and Patterned Landscape, with each collection designed to give architects and designers inspiration to create personality in their projects. The Colour Influences are produced by an expert panel, assembled by Crown, who join forces to pinpoint the latest trends, using their knowledge and passion for colour to produce a stunning visual compilation.

Architects and designers looking to get up to speed with inspired, eye-catching colour schemes for their projects will find help at hand with Crown Paints’ latest trends. Colour Influences 2017 is Crown Paints’ way of celebrating its love of colour - and the programme gives specification professionals useful insight into the shades which will shape environments in spring and summer this year. The Influences are produced by an expert panel, assembled by Crown, who join forces to pinpoint the latest colour trends. The team used its knowledge and passion for colour to produce three palettes, ‘Stillness,’ ‘Fusion’ and ‘Free Spirit.’

Crown Paints celebrates decade of success with earthbalance

Crown’s earthbalance scheme sets out the company’s commitment to being more sustainable and less wasteful as well as helping customers and staff make responsible decisions. The earthbalance scheme covers all aspects of Crown’s business and applies to all staff and operations at Crown’s two UK manufacturing plants and network of Crown Decorating Centres. Crown has reduced its overall electricity consumption by 15 per cent, reduced packaging waste by approximately 15 per cent, recycled more than 800 tonnes of paint cans and donated 112 benches made using recycled paint cans through social enterprise NIMTECH.

Crown Paints donates bench to sheltered housing scheme

Crown Paints has donated a bench to Morfa Cadfan, a sheltered housing scheme in Tywyn, Gwynedd. Part of Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG), North Wales’ largest housing association, the communal areas have been redecorated in conjunction with the Tywyn Project. The Crown Paints Specification Team visited the site at the end of last year to scope out colour schemes and the best products for the job. Novus Property Solutions carried out the work, which saw Crown Trade Timonox Acrylic Eggshell being applied to the walls of all the corridors and stairwells as well as the reception and lounge.


The Exterior Colour Book has been created by the Crown Paints Colour Service to provide guidance and inspiration for exterior decoration projects. It includes details on Sandtex Trade, Crown Paints’ external substrate decoration and protection brand, as well as superior wood protection brand Sadolin. When selecting a colour for exterior projects, personal preference is sometimes secondary to concerns such as impact on the local context and the relevant planning regulations. That’s why Crown’s Exterior Colour Book provides information about the built environment, covering topics such as historical styles, geology and local materials, regional colours and colour application.

Crown Paints forecasts next season’s hottest colour influences

Crown Paints’ colour experts have unveiled three new colour trends; ‘Saturated’, ‘Washed’ and ‘Midnight Garden’, which are set to influence colour schemes for the next season. Each with its own distinctive look, the three trends include a palette of signature colours and supporting accent tones together with more neutral hues. Crown Paints’ Colour Services team is on hand to offer expert assistance and advice on all aspects of colour specification. As well as providing bespoke colour cards and a colour library the team can also guide specifiers through the process of creating individual colour schemes, tailored to clients’ requirements.

Crown Paints hands over landmark donation for Hull UK City of Culture 2017

Crown Paints has marked its support for Hull UK City of Culture 2017 with the handover of its 1000th litre of paint to the city. A specially branded container celebrating the donation – relating to in excess of 150 tins – was produced by Crown Paints for the event. Representatives from Hull UK City of Culture 2017 visited the company’s manufacturing centre to take delivery of the paint. During Hull UK City of Culture, Crown’s products have played a key role in transforming the city, supporting a range of initiatives that have helped put the area firmly on the map.

Crown Paints has helped celebrate the work of more than 2,500 volunteers who pulled out all the stops to help make Hull UK City of Culture 2017 a major success. Artist Julia Vogl has created an exciting space in the Humber Street Gallery in the heart of the city centre to capture the spirit of the people behind the event. Julia specialises in public art, creating visual spectacles that reflect people and places.

Crown Paints launches trio of colour trends for 2019

Crown Paints has launched three core colour trends to shape interior design schemes for the first half of 2019 and beyond. Crown’s aim is to give people the confidence to experiment with colour which is why it invests in developing its new colour trends. The panel creates a distinct identity for each trend as well as highlighting the hero shades and complementing tones within the three colour schemes, which this year have been identified as ‘Redefined’, ‘Movement’ and ‘Immersed’. Crown Paints’ Colour Services team is on hand to offer expert assistance and advice on all aspects of colour specification.

Crown Paints make community contribution for Enfield paint project

A partnership between Crown Paints, Mitie Property Services and Enfield Council has led to a special presentation for residents. For the last two years, the three organisations have been working together on redecoration works across Enfield Council’s property portfolio. To mark the milestone, a bench made from recycled paint containers has been given to the community by Crown Paints. Some 4,000 litres of products including Crown Trade Stronghold Smooth Masonry, Crown Trade Protective Coatings, Sadolin Superdec and Crown Trade Timonox Flame Retardant Coatings have all been used on the council’s social housing schemes.

Crown Paints sets the scene for the Turner Prize during Hull UK City of Culture 2017

Crown Paints’ colour expertise has helped provide a bespoke backdrop for this year’s shortlisted Turner Prize artists to display their work. The Turner Prize is being presented at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, with an exhibition of work by this year's shortlisted artists: Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Büttner, Lubaina Himid and Rosalind Nashashibi. Running until 7 January 2018, the exhibition is a highlight of Hull UK City of Culture 2017. The curators of Turner Prize 2017 have worked with Crown Paints’ colour matching experts at Hull’s Crown Decorating Centre for the exhibition.

Crown Paints showcases its home decorating scheme at Pfh Live

Crown Paints will be bringing home the benefits of supply chain collaboration at the forthcoming Procurement for Housing (PfH) Live conference by showcasing a range of solutions designed to help specifiers working in the social housing sector create colourful, cost-effective and high-quality decoration schemes. The event takes place from 25th-27th June as part of the annual Chartered Institute of Housing event in Manchester and Crown will take up position on Stand P11. Crown Paints Specification Services support for tall order

A Suffolk-based local authority turned to Crown Paints Specification Services to transform the tallest building in the most easterly settlement of the UK. St. Peter’s Court – in the coastal town of Lowestoft, Suffolk – was in need of re-decoration and Waveney District Council wanted a product that would last for the long-term. Crown Paints came out to the site, which comprises of 90 flats over 15 floors, and after an extensive inspection and review of requirements, specified 3,600 litres of Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint for the project.

Crown Paints’ sustainability programme celebrates landmark anniversary

A pioneering sustainability programme, which sets a blueprint for a greener way to do business, has reached a landmark anniversary. Crown Paints’ Earthbalance® is celebrating 10 years since it was first launched. The programme was created by Crown Paints to rival those in place in some of the world’s top green companies. At the heart of the project is a target to reduce Crown Paints’ Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) and reduce waste to landfill. Since then Earthbalance® has transformed the way Crown Paints does business – setting the pace for a range of initiatives.


Crown Paints sponsored this year’s prestigious MA Design; Ceramics, Furniture and Jewellery Degree Show at Central Saint Martins College. The show typically welcomes over 35,000 visitors through its doors, and Crown was proud to provide the backdrop to the exhibition. Crown Paints donated 100 litres of white matt emulsion and 25 litres of matt emulsion in City Break. The donation was facilitated through Crown’s unique social enterprise scheme, NIMTECH, which provides waste recovery and recycling services to the whole of Crown’s UK operations.

Crown Trade delivers complete care package for Saffron Housing Trust

A supported living home in Norfolk has been refreshed using products from Crown Trade’s extensive range in a bespoke colour scheme devised for the project by Crown’s colour consultants. Crown Trade’s Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt was applied. With a Class 1 rating on the ISO11998 testing method, Clean Extreme is scrub resistant up to 10,000 scrubs, meaning the paint surface won’t start to deteriorate - even with a regular and intensive cleaning regime. It will also resist a variety of common household stains to retain its ‘just decorated’ look for much longer.

Crown Trade products are providing the University of East London with a trusted route to transform student accommodation for the new academic year under a comprehensive redecoration programme.
