Cast Iron Channel Drainage

Cast Iron Air Brick Company

The Quatrefoil cast iron gratings are exclusive to the Cast Iron Air Brick and although they can be used vertically for ventilation they are more often used as Drainage gratings in conjunction with the Manthorpe plastic channel. These are often specified to create elegant drainage and landscaping along paths and pavements of feature gardens and around fountains and pools. This design is an authentic reproduction of quatrefoil symbol found in many gothic churches across Europe and in Paris and Florence. It is therefore fitting that it was chosen to drain surface water along the steps of the entrance to the Italian garden in Hyde Park, London. This has been part of the Royal parks renovation scheme and is Grade2 listed by Historic England.

Cast Iron Conservation Cowled Vent

Cast Iron Conservation Cowled Vent

Mainly used as an exterior vent to extract damp and moist air from inside a building. Hob extractors, kitchen extractors, cloakrooms, wc, bathrooms, ensuites and tumble dryer outlets are the main uses. It does suit period properties although its quite a statement piece even on contemporary buildings. It has been used on a significant number of listed buildings and properties in conservation areas. The conservation vent has been instrumental in improving extractor efficiency as installers have been able to extract close to where the fan is positioned whereas in the past theyve ducted metres and metres of flexi pipe to terminate on a back wall to comply with building consent. It can also be used as an interior vent to allow air in for combustion especially with regards to stoves.

Cellar, Basement, Soil and Sewer Vent

Cellar, Basement, Soil and Sewer Vent

Cast Iron Air Brick Company

Cast iron stand alone vent, used for centuries in properties around the country and now very much in vogue. This charming vent has two functions, either to connect to the stack of a sewar pipe to prevent loss of water traps when WC are flushed or to allow air down into cellars and basements. The sewar vent function prevents smells escaping from sewars by an ingeneous and simple non return brass flap fitted onto the removable front panel. For basement and cellar ventilation this flap is replaced with mesh to allow a flow of air in either direction. Both options use the same cast iron cellar/soil vent body with 4" (100mm) spigot and are available with aluminium or brass front plates.

Using Cast Iron Imperial 9x3 Air Bricks with Metric Cavity Wall Duct and Periscope

Using Cast Iron Imperial 9x3 Air Bricks with Metric Cavity Wall Duct and Periscope

Cast Iron Air Brick Company

Imperial air bricks are about the size of a Victorian brick which is around 9 x 3 inch or 225 x 75mm. They are quite a bit smaller than a metric air brick which is 8 ½ x 2 ½ inch or 213 x 66mm. The Cast Iron Air Brick Company have therefore designed an aluminium adapter to convert the metric duct so it will engage with many of the imperial air bricks we have. We call the adapter the metimp the name which conveniently translates to metric imperial. It is essential to use the adapter to connect all our 9x3 air bricks to metric ducting where the air brick doesnt have a cutaway frame. Please see the specification guidance for full details of each design.
