Sustainability overview

AG Paving and Building Products has been a family-run business for over 65 years. Sustainability is not simply one of our values. It sits at the core of our purpose and culture.

At the heart of AG is a clear and ambitious goal: to build better, more sustainable environments for everyone. As pioneers in low-carbon product development, we focus on reducing embodied carbon, increasing circularity and enhancing long-term performance across the built environment. Our work supports the decarbonisation of construction and helps shape a more climate-resilient future.

Our Vision

To be the UK and Ireland’s most admired supplier of paving and building products, setting the standard for Sustainability, Quality and Performance.

Our Purpose

To create brilliant concrete products that help our customers build better, faster and with confidence.

Our Values

Sustainability, Integrity, Wellbeing, Innovation and Customer Care.

In 2025, AG reported a 54.5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, covering direct and energy-related operational emissions, against its 2019 baseline. Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions across the supply chain, reduced by 5.7% compared to 2021. These reductions demonstrate the third-generation company’s continued commitment to lowering carbon across its operations.

Over one third of AG’s vehicle fleet is now electric, supported by a partnership with neighbouring Tullyweel Farm, which produces biomethane to power EV charging and the company’s wash plant. In late 2025, AG also partnered with 3T Power to source locally produced renewable electricity for the remainder of its operations.

Innovation and efficiency remain central to AG’s approach. In 2025, the company launched Diamond Pro Air, a lighter, fully recyclable product manufactured using 100% renewable energy and a blend of secondary and locally quarried materials. The Woodward brick range was also recognised as BITC’s 2025 Responsible Product/Service of the Year, highlighting AG’s commitment to low-carbon, high-performance construction materials.

Across our four sites, we continue to invest in smarter, lower-impact manufacturing. New product moulds, upgraded packaging machinery and advanced wrapping processes are improving efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Our state-of-the-art Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Centre at our Fivemiletown headquarters houses advanced testing capabilities, enabling us to validate performance, develop new solutions and test prototypes to the highest technical standards.

Transparency is central to how we operate. We have published third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations for more than 370 products, giving customers clear, credible insight into environmental performance. Our partnership with SustainIQ strengthens this data-led approach, enabling robust monitoring and reporting across responsible procurement, environmental management and community impact.

We also recognise that sustainability goes beyond carbon. Protecting and enhancing biodiversity across our sites is a key priority. From supporting pollinators through the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan to collaborative conservation initiatives such as the Ballinderry River Project, we are working to protect habitats and species including bees, sand martins and the endangered white-clawed crayfish.

Our commitment is underpinned by rigorous certification. AG is accredited to BES 6001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001, and is among the first manufacturers to achieve recertification to the latest BES 6001 Excellent rating at our Toome site. These credentials give customers confidence that sustainability, traceability and quality are embedded in everything we do. Our progress has also been recognised through multiple industry awards, including Best Sustainable Business (SME) at the 2025 Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards, Sustainable Manufacturing Business of the Year at the 2024 Business Eye Sustainability Awards, and Green Exporter of the Year at the 2024 All-Ireland Sustainability Awards.

Resource efficiency remains a major focus. We continue to reduce water consumption through closed-loop systems and recycled process water. In 2024, usage fell to 60 litres per tonne of product. We have also partnered with Queen’s University Belfast through an innovation programme focused on manufacturing decarbonisation, resulting in a KTP Future Leader Award.

At our Fivemiletown facility, locally sourced aggregates from our adjacent quarry help minimise transportation emissions and reduce embodied carbon. To responsibly manage quarrying impacts, we have implemented a long-term restoration strategy that transforms waste silt from our manufacturing processes into a clay material for backfilling. This circular approach repurposes waste while supporting sustainable land rehabilitation and contributes to the low-carbon legacy we are building for future generations.

Through a comprehensive sustainability strategy spanning carbon reduction, circular manufacturing, biodiversity protection, transparent reporting and certified responsible sourcing, AG continues to lead positive change in the construction sector, achieving great in concrete while helping shape a more sustainable built environment.
