Combilift, Co. Monaghan

AG was appointed by Meegan Builders for the provision of hard landscaping products in the construction of a brand-new office and manufacturing building for Combilift, Co. Monaghan.AG supplied its premium Plaza paving in Salt and Pepper for the front of the building structure; a popular 600x200x50 granite water-etched paving, which offers long life with minimal maintenance. AG’s Plaza paving offered the correct power and durability to be fit for purpose, without sacrificing on aesthetics. Plaza is manufactured using extremely high-quality aggregates, giving it uncommon durability and excellent slip resistance that truly lasts under areas of high traffic and pressure.A colour mix of Salt and Pepper was selected to contrast with the lighter building structure and to offer a hard-wearing alternative to traditional granite composites. AG’s Plaza paving is produced in the UK using locally sourced aggregates, with a high percentage of recycled materials in the base mix. 100% renewable energy is used during the production process, something AG has been committed to introducing throughout its product ranges.AG also supplied Steintec products to complement its Plaza paving; in this instance, Tufftop, a high-performance jointing mortar designed for modular paving was selected. This free-flowing grout makes paving surface cleaning very straightforward and when used in conjunction with AG’s Plaza block, ensures longevity and minimal maintenance for Combilift’s new manufacturing base.
Craddockstown Housing Development, Naas

Kildare, is one of six sites being developed by John Sisk and Sons using AG facing brick.Woodward Ashbrooke Antique was chosen for the Craddockstown development due to its rumbled finish and subtle tonal range.The detailed product knowledge offered to John Sisks team and backed up by support from our technical and production team made a real difference to the customer.AG’s 60 year guarantee was vital to Sisks and the willingness to develop bespoke colour blends for the project.John Donnellan, AG Regional Sales Manager, said:“We work very closely with Sisks and have supplied a number of their housing developments which are finished to a very high standard. Curragh Racecourse, Co. Kildare

AG is proud to have played an intrinsic part in the redevelopment of the Curragh Racecourse in Co Kildare – Irish racing’s biggest ever capital development project, which opened to the public in May at an estimated cost of over €80 million.AG supplied TerraPave® flagstones in Genoa (Ground and Textured) to internal and external areas of the new grandstand and outer buildings. The internal flags for Phase 2 were Genoa Ground 600×400, manufactured with a square edge. Internally, AG also supplied made-to-order steps with strip inserts and a unique notch to the underside to improve safety.The external flags were Genoa Textured 600×400, which were used on the external balcony areas of the stand.“At a site meeting with the client, John Sisk & Sons (main contractor), Grimshaw Architects from London and NMA Architects from Dublin, it became clear that AG were the sole company that could meet all the criteria for all parties,” said Brendan Reynolds, Specifications & Commercial Sales Consultant.“The original specification was for natural granite, but time, costs and consistency of colour became issues for all involved. AG suggested TerraPave® Genoa, in both textures, to suit the internal and external areas, which matched the colour requirement of the specification. We were also able to provide matching steps to meet Part M Building Regulations and a square edge to the flags, which the client wanted.“Finally, we were able to agree a production programme which met with Sisk’s requirement to hand over the building in the first week of April 2019.”

Dublin City University, Ballymun, County Dublin

Challenge Paving and flagstone products from the Netherlands were specified in the project plans for this regeneration of Dublin City University’s outdoor, communal areas and footpaths.Additional transport costs and CO2 emissions were involved in the project as the products were being shipped from the Netherlands.Solution - AG explained to the Landscape architect, it could produce bespoke paving and flagstone products with a similar finish to those already specified, and the products would be durable, available in various colours and sizes, and produced sustainability.AG created a display sample using Plaza paving and TerraPave® flagstones. The architect was satisfied with the finish and changed the specification – choosing AG’s products.By using a local supplier, like AG, the client received a greener and cost-effective solution as transport costs and CO2 emissions were reduced.AG supplied 6,500m2 of bespoke Plaza paving and 1,000m2 of TerraPave® flagstones during phase one of this project. In phase two an additional 1,000m2 of Plaza paving was supplied.AG’s Plaza paving is available in 11 colour blends and in a variety of colour intensities, depths and formats. Its surface is formed from natural granite aggregates giving it is durability. Its production uses several recycled materials, 90% of harvested rain and 100% renewable energy. It also has an excellent slip resistance rating and is a colour-fast product.TerraPave® is an aesthetically attractive and durable flagstone that uses the finest granite and quartz aggregates from around Europe to create its top layer. In both ground and textured finishes, TerraPave® is available in ten colours that complement AG’s Plaza paving – each produced with natural aggregates to ensure long-term colourfastness. With its range of depths and sizes and slip resistance quality – it’s a cost effective and a practical alternative to traditional stone paving.This project commenced in November 2018 and was completed in November 2019. The order value to AG was approximately €260,000 and AG was able to supply the products within the budget and timeline specified in the plan.
Eastmount, Co. Wicklow

Eastmount is a Residential Development based in Delgany County Wicklow with 88 number of houses based on site.The attractive new development was designed using a variety of AG Paving and TerraKerb® products. The striking colour blends creates an eye-catchingly beautiful contrast with the 1633 building, adding vibrancy to the school.The Plaza Lineal 120mm paving was laid to allow a one-way system through the site. Plaza Lineal paving was the perfect choice for Clifton Emery Design as the paving has a technical loading capability of 3.5 tonnes on flexible construction, making it ideal for lightly trafficked and pedestrian areas that require access for cleaning and light vehicles. The ultra-linear formats and mixed sizes have been designed to deliver maximum performance and versatility – offering almost limitless design possibilities for architects.The recent refurbishment is part of Exeter School’s long-term strategic planning programme.

Guilden Park Student Complex – Guilford

The scheme which has a GDV exceeding £102 million will help to deliver on the much-needed increase in quality student accommodation that Guildford requires to meet demand.A mixture of AG products were supplied throughout the project entirety with 60mm and 80mm Plaza (Salt, Pepper, Birkes, and Kardemon) and TerraPave Rimini Ground Flagstones being utilised across the scheme. Additionally, our TerraPave step units and Buff Corduroy were also added to further compliment the scheme. The ChallengeBuilt by HJ O’Boyle contractors in November 2015, the 16 homes making up the £2.5m Marlborough Manor development mark the first residential development by Rosemount Homes Ltd, an offshoot of Lagan Construction Group, with whom AG has enjoyed business relations for nearly 20 years.Befitting the aesthetic tone of the Georgian-style homes the development called for facing bricks with the hand-crafted appearance sometimes only associated with clay bricks.Key to the development was also attractive and comfortable outdoor living spaces. Old Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, Dublin

Having purchased the lands from the Golf Club, Cosgrave Developments wanted to ensure the natural contours of the existing grounds were maintained when building the public amenity park – Honeypark – which is the centrepiece of their development.As a focal meeting point the area contained mature parklands with a man-made lake and childrens play area as the main attraction. With this area being lower in the development a safe, durable and visually pleasing design was needed, Mick Cosgrave chose AG’s Ground TerraPave® natural aggregate flags to meet the specification, with its durable finish and low slip resistance it met all the safety criteria for this major walkway.When laid it’s visually impressive surface draws you to the central focal point of the scheme. To improve safety for the visually impaired AG’s smooth bullnose kerbs setts were used to form the numerous step details complimenting the smooth crisp clean appearance of the paving and flags.The main green space areas also had sloping contours where soil retention was needed to aid structural integrity and drainage, AG’s Vertica Retaining Wall system was selected. The low rise walls meet the engineering specification whilst the choice of colour was in line with the design choice for the scheme. The unique split level design also provided a natural amphitheatre and seating area for the residents, the low level of the walling kept in mind the safety aspects for younger children in the area.In the main residential areas Cosgrave Developments choose AG’s River Stone Blackwater paving for the parking bay areas. Unique in its design due to its undulating face finish this new product has the key benefits of smooth paving, tight joints and an extra sparkle due to the addition of natural granite chippings. AG were tasked with installing paving flags at the new entrance of the Portlaoise Retail Park as well as lifting and replacing the old paving at the existing entrance.The TerraPave® flag, manufactured from aggregates sourced from around Europe, was chosen as a fine quality concrete alternative to natural stone, which helps keep costs down. It was also selected for conforming to current BREEAM sustainability criteria which AG include as standard requirement. The Dunleer Housing Development, Co. Louth, is one of six sites being developed by John Sisk and Sons using AG facing brick.The Ravel Grange development was built in a single phase and consists of 80 social houses – mainly 3 bedroom two storeys and a small number of bungalows. Woodward brick in Edenmore Smooth was chosen due to its clean crisp edges and subtle tonal range.It is part of a project spanning across 6 sites, with 1.8million bricks. Various Woodward colours and finishes were selected across the sites. Availability, consistency, and competitiveness were some of the key attributes for choosing AG.
Sandiefield Development, Crown Street, Glasgow

The £6 million Sandiefield Building Scheme for New Gorbals Housing Association – comprising 29 offices and flats – was completed in July 2019 and constructed by CCG limited and Interlocked Construction.AG supplied its well-established Plaza paving, in Salt + Pepper (400x200x80), to provide a beautiful and robust hard landscaping solution for the surroundings outside the centre. This product was integrated into the design to create polished, smooth lines and was supplied in various sizes (Plaza Pepper 200x100x80) to create aesthetically-pleasing patterning effects to the finished look.David McCandlish, Regional Sales Manager at AG Scotland, said:“We quickly identified Plaza, in Salt and Pepper, as the perfect fit for this major project. Quick and easy dry-build Anchor Diamond blocks were used to form 300Lm of low-height landscape retaining walls and interesting seating areas for cross-shaped cuttings through a large grassy mound. The mound creates a striking landscape feature and focal point in front of the college and was formed using the large surplus of spoil generated during the demolition works. Over 3,000SQM of Boulevard paving was also selected to give a clean crisp contemporary feel to the hard landscaping areas with the associated cost benefits of concrete blocks and the production quality consistency needed for the phased construction.

Our premium granite TerraPave® flagstones were a perfect choice for this scheme at one of London’s foremost rooftop cocktail bars and pizzerias. Skylark Roof Garden, located on Kingdom Street, sits on the 10th floor of Paddington Central, offering incredible views overlooking the beautiful Notting Hill, on the banks of Little Venice. For this project, a combination of Pedestals and TerraPave® flags were utilised. The incorporation of Pedestals (stools on which the flags were laid) , meant no base was required. The depth of TerraPave® flags is calibrated as part of the manufacturing process, delivering exceptional dimensional accuracy which in turn delivered consistent levelling across the terrace. Project architects, Allies and Morrison selected our TerraPave® Flags, in Rimini and Milano Ground due to their rich, distinctive styles and impressive durability in highly pedestrianised areas. These flags are produced with locally-sourced, natural aggregates instead of pigments meaning their unique colouration won’t fade. TerraPave® also offers a cost-effective, and practical alternative to traditional stone paving. The £80m Paddington Central scheme was completed built by Wates Construction and designed by Allies & Morrison. Some of the impressive project’s additional features include London’s highest basketball court, an external glazed stair tower, and a public colonnade around the retail space on the ground floor.

The Barony Campus in Cumnock is one of Scotland’s most innovative, ambitious and inclusive learning facility. It opened its doors to the Robert Burns Academy and Supported Learning Centre pupils in October 2020.The Barony Campus in Cumnock will be the biggest capital project ever undertaken by East Ayrshire Council, with costs in the region of £68m. Situated on a 19.8-hectare site, the innovative new Barony Campus consolidates five schools into one shared community campus, creating a centre for education for the towns of Cumnock, Auchinleck and the surrounding area.The project for East Ayrshire Council, and based on standards set by the Scottish Futures Trust, includes a secondary school (for 1,633 pupils), a primary school (517 pupils), a nursery (240 children) and an 80-place supported learning centre. £40,000 worth of AG’s Plaza Salt, Pepper and Kardemom paving was provided to the campus’ grounds which accommodates over 2,700 pupils.Plaza is manufactured using the highest-quality aggregates, giving it an uncommon durability that’s ideal for large number of pedestrians. Set into the landscape on a radial geometry, the design helps to break down the overall mass of the building, minimising visual impact and giving each element of the school its own identity. The fresh, crisp look of Plaza makes it particularly suited to create a contemporary feel.Sustainability was at the heart of the design from the outset of Barony Campus thus the choice of Plaza was ideal as the product is produced in the UK from locally sourced materials. Using a high percentage of recycled non-primary materials in the base mix, and 90% harvested rainwater and 100% renewable energy in the production process.
The Celtic Manor Resort – Conference Centre, Coldra Woods, Newport

The Junction, a new £3.5m Euro-supported community asset at Railway Park in Dungannon caters for a wide range of activities.The building, which has been created to host meetings, training, workshops and features a state-of-the-art conference space, café and casual meeting rooms, is located at the historic, 13th century Hill of the O’Neill and ancient capital of Ulster.THE CHALLENGEThe architects’ vision for the building was one that gave the impression of open access from every angle, set within beautiful grounds incorporating a pedestrian promenade and plaza.A key consideration was the need for a hard landscaped surface which would sympathetically blend into the aesthetic vision for inviting approaches and provide a durable ground cover for heavy footfall, requiring minimal maintenance, and with assured longevity.THE SOLUTIONArchitects, Hall, Black and Douglas chose AG’s Granaza flag because of its distinctive textured finish that combines granite and quartz whilst offering a great look with robust durability and excellent levels of slip resistance.In addition Xflo® Plaza Salt (Silver) and Xflo® Plaza Pepper (Slate) permeable paving was chosen for both form and function.As well as providing a proven means of controlling surface water flow, Plaza Salt (Silver) and Plaza Pepper’s (Slate) striking aesthetics acted as a perfect foil with the Granaza flags, creating the dimensional depth and enhancing the definition between the vehicular and pedestrian areas resulting in an attractive, distinctive effect.Meanwhile AG’s Terrakerb® offered a reliable alternative to natural stone with which to frame the paved areas.Within the grounds, AG’s products organically link the promenade and plaza to the surrounding park and existing routes to and from the amenity, in a sympathetically appealing fashion.Sean Mullen, QMAC Senior Contracts Manager praised AG’s supply capabilities and said the finished building was a ‘statement piece’.
