Future-proofing their facilities, Hirwaun Primary School included space flexibility as a key feature of a new £10.5m building, that opened in Autumn 2020. Allowing teachers to quickly adapt one of the main classrooms, Style worked with contractor Morgan Sindall and architects, Boyesrees, to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall system.
With an impressive 55dB Rw acoustic rating, once the wall is in place, separate classes can run undisturbed on either side, making this an ideal solution for isolating pupil bubbles, as well as being intensely practical in accommodating a wide variety of ongoing daily activities.

Recently refurbished, Vodafone’s Manchester office is the first building in the UK to combine two electric moveable walls, delivering an entirely automated system for dividing room space.
Working with architects, CMI Workplace and main contractor, Overbury, Style was specified to install a fully automatic Dorma Moveo Glazed ComfortDrive moveable wall adjacent to a Skyfold, the fully automatic, vertically rising operable wall, housed in the ceiling cavity. At the push of a button, the walls open and close with ease, offering a phenomenal lab tested 50dB Rw acoustic integrity for the glass system, and 51dB Rw for the Skyfold.
Cyns Tavern, Little Hulton in Salford

Cyns Tavern, is a traditional community pub located in the Little Hulton area of Salford. Since its construction in the 1970s it has maintained its popularity with local residents. The existing felt covering on an area of the roof had reached the end of its service life and in order to prevent further damage to the building fabric, the owner wanted to carry out a roof refurbishment.The project provided an ideal opportunity for roofing contractor, LRL Roofing Solutions, to leverage the team’s experience in bituminous roofing systems and use the innovative, new SikaShield® Safe2Torch system in a project for one of the company’s major customers, Forviva.
West Kirby Railway Station
Whitesales Rooflights
West Kirby railway station’s 1930s platform canopy was long overdue refurbishment. Whitesales were brought in by Briggs Amasco, Network Rail’s roofing contractor, to design, manufacture and install a series of non-fragile rooflights for the 900sq m replacement roof.
After our initial roof survey, we specified bespoke polycarbonate Em-Vault continuous barrel vault rooflights. They’re compatible with the chosen Sika Liquid Plastics roofing system and have light transmission of up to 88%. The standard mill finish frame would keep costs low and blend with the canopy's concrete finish.

Ultrascapes’s Pro-bed HS, Pro-Prime and Flowpoint have been performing to the highest standard at Manchester’s £650 million development, MediaCityUK.
Landscape paving contractor, English Landscapes, specified Ultrascape products for 40,000m² of paving at the high profile development.
Over 2000 tonnes of Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar was supplied in bulk silos which provided a perfect base for the stone to be laid on. Pro-Prime slurry primer and the innovative Ultrascape Flowpoint flowable rapid setting grout were also used throughout the development. Flowpoint enables large areas to be grouted with this pourable material.

O’Brien Contractors installed hard and soft landscaping around the prestigious new library, which included 1200m² of yellow rock granite. paving.
UltraScape’s Pro-Bed HS provided a perfect bound base. It can be laid up to 75mm in one pass.
A special order of Flowpoint buff was produced for this project to compliment the paving elements.
UltraScape’s Paving Guard surface sealant was applied once the grout had set to help preserve the installation.
Style Offers Expert Partitioning Advice to School - Wolvercote Primary School
Style - Moveable Partition Specialists
Wolvercote Primary School, Oxfordshire, first contracted Style to install a folding wall in a classroom in 2015. This proved so useful that when the need arose again, the teaching staff insisted on the same product. Working with architect SixPC and contractor Wensley Group, Style’s team recommended the same Stylefold 120 folding wall but, with an endfold configuration rather than centrefold arrangement, giving added space when the wall is not in use. Boasting an impressive 46dB Rw acoustic rating, the partition enables the school to run adjacent classes either side, or quickly open the room up into one large space.
McArthurGlen Ashford Designer Outlet

Biotecture’s statement living walls are integral to the architectural look and feel at the McArthurGlen Ashford Designer Outlet. They were designed to enrich the retail experience and strengthen the outlet’s position as a flagship shopping destination. Working collaboratively with the design team and the main contractor, Biotecture designed and installed over 2,000 sqm of living wall to create a rich vertical garden. The green walls help establish a sense of place, and reflect Kent’s status as ‘The Garden of England’. The project is one of Europe’s largest living walls and demonstrates how living walls can be delivered at scale to enhance the urban environment.
Fast Liquid Waterproofing Solution for Flat Roofs

IKOpro Acrylic Roof Coat has been used to provide a quick (taking only 4 days to complete) and seamless waterproof solution to a leaking roof at Bellman’s Auctioneers & Valuers in West Sussex. Contracts Manager for M Holmes Construction (contractor) admits that it was much less labour intensive than traditional roof refurbishments. He said, “The beauty of this system is that you don’t have to re deck the roof, unlike some alternative liquid systems. So this means you save one day of labour, typically four men on a job this size, plus material costs.”
iDecking walkway in high profile modern style home

The client was looking to replace an old 67 metre long wooden walkway surrounding a pool.
Their contractor recommended the Decking system due to the low profile aluminium substructure and moisture-proof composite boards which require far less ongoing maintenance.
The installer removed the old decking to reveal the sub base, then used Wallbarn’s heavy duty MegaPad pedestals to underpin the iDecking rail system.
Our proposed laying pattern complemented the architect’s original design, drawing the eye down the length of the walkway.
The entire job took two weeks to complete. The client is delighted with the results.
Bespoke external furniture for Cardiff & Vale College

The new city centre campus at Cardiff & Vale College sees a distinctive wedge shape building designed with a high focus on sustainability. Furnitubes designers worked closely with the project contractors and Architects involved who were keen to encourage open welcoming spaces for students and members of the public. Part of the solution included a bespoke Elements Podium platform, manufactured in iroko timber slats with steel supports. The platform created an informal seating provision to encourage interaction and socialisation amongst students. Also supplied to the development were a number of contemporary seats and benches to suit the character of the scheme.
Hornby Flats social housing refurbishment

Part of an energy efficiency drive, the landlord aimed to reduce carbon emissions and the effects of fuel poverty on 96 units in 8 blocks at Hornby Flats, Liverpool.
Triple-glazed PVC-U windows and doors using the Profile 22 70mm system by Walsall-based Approved Window Contractor Select Windows, with extensive experience in social housing.
Profile 22 worked closely with Select Windows and One Vision Housing, facilitating the entire process from conception to completion.
The project was completed on-time and in budget. One Vision Housing was able to future-proof, while improving the quality of living for tenants.
The Kelpies

Eurosafe Solutions undertook the challenge and provided a safety solutions to Scotland’s Largest Art Installation, the Kelpies.
Working alongside the main contractor on the project, SH Structures, Eurosafe Solutions supplied and installed an internal ladder within each of the horse heads, one 19 meters high and another 21 meters high whilst also providing rope access assistance to the installers of the structures external cladding.
The ladders provided by Eurosafe Solutions consist of multiple sections of Glideloc “Y” spar ladder sections, with a pivot section at the front of each which can be locked to prevent unauthorised use.

Northern Star Flooring is an experienced resin floor contractor based in the North of England. The first phase began in 2018 and the project involved the redevelopment and modernisation of the main southern concourse. The plans also included a new roof and stunning glazed façade in addition to more floor space. The flooring specified will be used by the station’s 100,000 daily users. Dural has been integral in offering technical advice on how to install their coloured movement joints for this huge expanse of floor.

In a recent refurbishment of their main sports hall the choice of the playing indoor surface underwent a rigorous specification process. The hugely important decision would demand that only the best products be used and the final specification would settle on some 610m2 of Taraflex® vinyl sports flooring in ‘Maple’ from international flooring specialist Gerflor.
Anthony Mynett, Director, Carpet Services (Cardiff) Ltd commented, “we are the preferred flooring contractor at the college and chose Gerflor’s Taraflex sports flooring as it conformed perfectly to the college’s requirements.” Adding, “Taraflex Evolution is unique as it covers a Granwood floor surface.”

The construction company wanted a strong aluminium profile that provides a simple, safe secure edge for steps covered in ceramic tiles.
The flange sits underneath the tile and the top section protects the riser tile and prevents water ingress into the joint gap. The top section provides a perfect step edge with a grooved profile face for extra grip and has a generous 10-12mm deep front face to highlight the step edge from the bottom of the steps.
Contractors decided Genesis NLM123 would fit perfectly and have since ordered 303 linea meters to be installed in Fragatta Tower, Colombia.

Marine Lake, Rhyl is situated alongside the River Clwyd estuary easily accessible from Rhyl Harbour. Previously an area of marshland, Marine Lake is now the only saltwater lake in Wales.
Following the success of funding availability from Welsh Government in late Autumn 2015 a Senior Engineer at Denbighshire County Council designed and tendered the Project with the construction phase commencing in March 2016 with Alun Griffiths Contractors from Abergavenny. At the design stage DCC began discussions with Hardscape to explore materials to re-landscape the run-down highway area in and around the entrance to Marine Lake.

Allgäuer Rosenalp is a hotel committed to tradition. The proprietors remained true to their principles during the refurbishment, subtly adding modern, stylish elements to the authentic ambience.
The Allgäuer Rosenalp quite literally received a facelift in two short months. The hotel was refurbished and extended. The roof was raised to create 17 new rooms and apartments on the fourth and fifth floors with views stretching across Oberstaufen and the Steibinger Nagelfluhkette. Interior contractors Philipp Haas & Söhne used symmetrically opening wooden doors separating bedroom and living area. They open/close effortlessly thanks to HAWA Symmetric 80 Z hardware.

In 2018 South Ayrshire Council appointed main contractor Portakabin to build a proposed new state-of-the-art Early Years Centre in Ayr, Scotland. The £2.2 million Cherry Tree Early Years Centre development now provides the largest modular modern learning environment in Scotland.
Ensuring that children and staff would have a safe and comfortable environment was at the forefront of the specification process and needed to include the best quality flooring possible.
The final choice of products was awarded to international flooring specialist Gerflor, who supplied 300m2 of their Taralay Impression Comfort and award-winning Taralay Impression Control products.
The Other Place, Stratford-Upon-Avon

Howe Green access covers were selected for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s studio theatre renovation project ‘The Other Place’, in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The covers were required to provide routine and emergency access to underfloor ducting services throughout the building.
Howe Green supplied a number of 7500 Series Medium Duty Floor Access Covers. The access covers are ideal for areas that require heavy loading as they are highly durable.
Main contractor, BAM Construction, fitted the panels on a suspended concrete slab. Once installed, they were infilled with K-screed followed by a resin finish.

Products from Johnstone’s Trade’s portfolio have created a lasting impression on patients at a state-of-the-art, 24-bed dementia unit in Sunderland. Helping a Gateshead-based decorating contractor win a prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Award.
Thousands of litres of Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt, Premium Contract Matt and Acrylic Eggshell were used throughout the unit by the decorators during a tight four-month timescale. The paint was used on corridors, offices, washrooms, stairwells, lounges, dining areas and doors throughout the unit, all of which now boast bold, fresh looks.

Howe Green’s Visedge Series Flexible Floor Access Covers were specified for a refurbishment project in the refectory at the University of Surrey by main contractor, Roberts Building Services Ltd and installed by Progressive Floor Surfaces
.
The Visedge covers replaced frames which were so heavy and cumbersome that they had previously taken four people to remove whenever maintenance of the services concealed beneath the flooring was required. The new covers offer a tough, lightweight, non-rusting access solution. In the event of any maintenance to underfloor services, the covers can be removed safely and easily with the lifting keys

M&E contractor ‘The All Group’ designed 2.5km RAYCHEM of HWAT-M self-regulating cables in a single pipe hot water system throughout the hotel. Controlled by RAYCHEM HWAT-ECO smart controllers, the system provided the benefits of energy efficiency plus savings in material costs, labour and space. Pipe freeze protection was delivered using 5.5 km of RAYCHEM WinterGard, controlled with RAYCHEM RAYSTAT-ECO-10. Underfloor heating was installed in the bedrooms, using RAYCHEM T2Red with T2Reflecta. In addition, RAYCHEM T2Quicknet 160 was installed in the en-suite bathrooms and the hotel’s luxurious spa.

A four-storey office and laboratory facility at Oxford Science Park uses high-tech solar control glass. However, Maple still had an very important role to play. We supplied and installed a bespoke brise soleil system to further protect the interior from direct sunlight. It was an excellent example of collaboration between architect, contractor and supplier to find the most effective solution.“The use of our 3D modelling software and its compatibility with Vision Profiles’ CNC machining equipment helped reduce design time by 80% for the whole project,” said Maple project director Jay McGrath.

The multi-million pound UK headquarters of TPP (The Phoenix Partnership) in Leeds was purpose-built by contractors ISG and designed by Bowman Riley Architects. The frontal elevation of traditional Yorkshire stone with pitched tiled roofing contrasts to a rear façade featuring a contemporary appearance with extensive curtain walling. neaco supplied bespoke balconies and external balustrade to both sections, combining traditional-style railed infills with a contemporary twist in the form of tapered flat-bar stanchions with laser-cut holes. This combination has achieved design consistency across the building whilst harmonising with the contrasting aesthetics of the front and rear.
Data Centre - Green Roof

This project involved the construction of a Data Centre just outside Dublin, with a focus on incorporating a green roof. MOY collaborated with the client, their design team, the main contractor, and the roofing installer to execute the roof installation for an extensive green roof. The green roof utilized MOY's Paraflex FM Global approved Warm Roof System, featuring Paratherm T 120mm insulation board and an anti-root cap sheet. The final touch included the installation of a sedum blanket grown in Ireland, containing native Irish sedum species registered in the national biodiversity database, creating a durable and vibrant living roof.

Prospec Marathon lockers are designed specifically to withstand the rigours of a busy leisure centre. The installation also included other products from Prospec’s versatile Marathon range such as Marathon Conform fully framed cubicles, bespoke solid surface vanities, Cabrillant shower cubicles and both wall mounted and double island bench seating.
Prospec worked closely with the specifying architects Roberts Limbrick, main contractor Pellikaan Construction, and leisure operator Places for People Leisure.

Assured fire safety depends on sticking with a quality specification

Dame Judith Hackitt’s assertion that the building industry routinely puts cost before quality will come as no surprise to architects and contractors who often see their specifications being challenged, and changed, just to save a few pounds. ‘Value engineering’ has become synonymous with an industry obsessed seeking to do everything at the lowest possible cost.
Fire rated glass, framing materials and other components must be evaluated and scrutinised at the product specification stage. Once specified, passive fire protection products must stay specified, as the slightest change to the specification can compromise the expected level of fire resistance.
Cardiff Castle - F. Ball products create unassailable flooring finish at Cardiff Castle

F. Ball products have been used in a resilient flooring installation capable of withstanding high temperatures as part of the refurbishment of Cardiff Castle visitor centre.
Firstly, old carpet and ceramic tiles had to be uplifted. Contractors then mechanically prepared the subfloor.
Next, Stopgap P131 general-purpose primer was applied to the subfloor, enabling promotion of the application characteristics and stop the unacceptably rapid drying of subsequently applied levelling compounds, in addition to preventing pinholing.
Stopgap 1200 Pro levelling compound was then applied over the entire subfloor to create a perfectly smooth base for the receipt of new floorcoverings.
Waterside Residential Development, Swansea - Swansea Marina residential installation smooth-sailing thanks to F. Ball

F. Ball products have been used to install floorcoverings in a waterside residential development at Swansea Marina.
Stopgap 1200 Pro high-performance levelling compound was used to create a smooth base ready for the receipt of floorcoverings.
Contractors then used Styccobond F44 acrylic adhesive to install oak-effect Polyflor vinyl sheet in the kitchens and bathrooms, as well as to install purple Polyflor vinyl sheet floorcoverings in the building’s corridors, stairways and other communal areas.
Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive was used to install Polyflor wood-effect vinyl planks in the living areas of each of the apartments.
Travis Perkins, Long Eaton - Stopgap 800 Wearcoat provides a strong grounding at Travis Perkins

Stopgap 800 Wearcoat self-levelling floor compound has been used to renovate warehouse floors at a branch of Travis Perkins in Long Eaton.
After conducting a moisture measurement test and determining that the subfloor was dry enough to proceed, contractors primed the area with Stopgap P131, to promote good adhesion between the floor compound and concrete subfloor.
Once the primer was suitably dry, Stopgap 800 Wearcoat was then applied due to the floor requiring a hard-wearing surface that could weather the high levels of daily foot traffic and movement of heavy products being sold in the builders merchant warehouse.
