Looking to install an EN16005 compliant manual activated revolving door with integrated air curtain, the main contractor, Graham Construction, got in touch FAAC Entrance Solutions to submit their proposal for this project.Solution: FAAC presented the RD100 Revolving Door as the best product for this entrance, not only for representing a more cost-effective solution, but also by installing a power assisted automatic door rather than a manual one, made for a safer and more user-friendly entrance, thus providing better value overall. Classic singles were used in bathrooms to create more space where the arc of standard hinged doors would have otherwise encroached on the space. This allowed more space for larger shower enclosures and enhanced room layouts. Located on St Mary’s Street, Cardiff, Hodge House is a beautifully renovated Grade II listed eight-storey building. Originally constructed in 1915 on the site of Cardiff’s original Victorian Town Hall, the building was home to the Welsh Co-Operative for many years.Architect Stride Treglown led the refurbishment of this historic building, converting it into 110,000 sq. ft of modern office space. Working in partnership with Paramount Interiors, they specified Allgood’s Modric and Holt ranges throughout. The development, winner of ‘Workplace Design of the Year’ and shortlisted for ‘Development of the Year’ at the Insider Wales Property Awards 2020, has had its interior transformed to suit the next generation of occupiers while showcasing the stunning original features including exposed decorative cast-iron columns and riveted steel structures from the 1930s.Our Modric and Holt ranges matched this design intent. ASF were asked to manufacture tree grilles in the design of the ASF 3000 in stainless steel, but with structural design and calculation attached that met an 8 ton point loading, so that the grilles would be suitable for drive over by 15t+ street cleaners. ASF worked with site and our own structural engineers to produce grilles that met and exceeded the required standards.The top 'face' of the grille bars were also castellated to increase grip on the surface of the grilles.The grilles also hosted large uplighters that also allowed for an 8t point loadingThe grilles were manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel to these standards and finished passivate dipped, offering a stable finished patina that will last for many yearsThe grilles were manufactured to these standards

'The Portal' is a new £16 million public services hub in Ellesmere Port, delivered by Vinci Construction UK for Cheshire West and Chester Council. The new facility will be home to more than 500 council and public sector staff, a Job Centre Plus and a Citizen’s Advice Bureau.The building has been constructed with many environmentally friendly elements including solar panels, air source heat pump and electric vehicle charging points. The Portal’s envelope is wrapped at the top and bottom with an attractive, copper coloured metal cladding and a newly formed public realm area will surround the exterior, with bench seating and green landscaped sections.Internally, 'The Portal' consists of large open plan working areas with smaller subsection meeting rooms, break out and kitchen spaces which are present on each level and a main central staircase for circulation.Metal Technology Ltd supplied its 10-35Hi+ commercial entrance doors and System 17 capped curtain walling for the large, glazed sections of the build to approved fabricator and installer RED Systems Limited.Due to open its doors in Spring, it’s fantastic to have been involved in this state-of-the-art, commercial project, which is a catalyst for the wider Ellesmere Port Town Centre regeneration master plan.

Situated in the London Borough of Newham, East HamTechnical College was reopened in September 2014and is now home to over 500 students. The elegantVictorian building was originally built in 1905 and isnow a Grade II listed building.Rick Mather Architects retained many of the existingfeatures of the original building whilst the new modernadditions seek to complement and highlight these,whilst ensuring functionality for users. Extensive areasof glazed tiles and bricks have been repaired anduncovered to restore the original diverse materialityof the building. Though the south and east elevationsutilised alternative materials, they maintain the redbrick and terracotta aesthetic of the more elaboratenorth and west facades.The ironmongery package presented a challenge forAllgood. The high usage of the building meant theironmongery would need to be highly functional but itwas essential that the aesthetics matched the interiordesign of the building.Whilst many of the classrooms have been modernised,the interior designer elected to match the ironmongeryto the more classic themes of the building.A co-ordinated antique brass finish was applied toknob handles, numerals, hinges and door closers oneach of the wooden, white painted doors.In the bathroom areas, where some of the originaldecor was not retained, a more conventional stainlesssteel finish was utilised to cubicle locks and WC turns

Georgina and Matt were undertaking a refurbishment to their family home in Surrey, including a new annexe, when they approached us about our range of timber windows and doors.The age of the original building dated back to the 16th century, with both Regency and Edwardian additions, and so finding timber windows that helped to retain and enhance the original character of the property was a priority.Spring Sash windows from the Conservation Range were recommended for most of the home, featuring concealed pre-tensioned balances. This offered Georgina classic period styling but also ensured the house benefitted from the high performance offered by a modern double-glazed window.Conservation Range Casement windows were used for the rest of the property, alongside Spring Sash products offering traditional sightlines - ideal for period properties.Georgina also wanted to ensure that the new outbuildings retained a traditional look, so we created a bespoke ‘sunrise’ feature window to give it interest and kept the styling in line with the rest of the renovation.Antique brass ironmongery and a ‘Wimbourne White’ paint finish, complements the classic look throughout.Georgina explains;“When I approached Mumford & Wood, I told them I felt a ‘Jane Austen’ period feel would fit well with the main era of the house. Waitrose’s Distribution Centre at Bracknell delivers to more than 60 stores, handling up to 150,000 cases of chilled products. The new warehouse was conceived to a ‘green’ design; generating 20% of renewable energy on site with waste heat and office cooling recycled from the refrigeration process, efficient lighting and low carbon emissions. In keeping with the concept of sourcing natural materials, a Roma-3 mild steel grating fence in a galvanized finish was specified for the boundary demarcation.

A college campus, designed with student experiences in mind, has invested in a series of litter bins to ensure a clean and tidy welcome.Newcastle College, part of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG), is a close neighbour of Broxap Street Furniture.It consists of a £65 million campus and a £5.5 million Performing Arts Centre.NSCG is the first further education provider in England to achieve the top grades in every area of Ofsted’s reformed Education Inspection Framework (EIF).Ofsted’s inspection report, published in November 2019, praised all areas of the College’s provision and acknowledged NSCG’s ‘positive, stimulating and safe learning environment’.Its recent order with Broxap included 30 Derby Wall Litter Bins. Manufactured from galvanised steel, the 80-litre capacity bins are polyester powder coated Anthracite Grey and feature the Tidyman logo in silver with laser cut lettering.Eleven Westleigh Litter Bins were also delivered to site.The 75-litre Westleigh bins also feature a galvanised steel structure, powder coated Anthracite Grey to match the Derby Wall Litter Bins.The front opening door is finished with five Iroko hardwood slats.The litter bins were supplied by Broxap in time for the launch of a series of college tours and open events, giving prospective students and their families the chance to explore the campus and its learning and social spaces.

Originally built in 1928, the Fullerton building was initially usedas an office, housing entities such as the Ministry of Trade andthe Chamber of Commerce.Following a brief spell as a makeshift hospital during thesecond World War, Britain’s surrender of Singapore to Japanled to the building becoming the headquarters for Japan’smilitary operation in the country.In 1997, the Building was sold for £300m and work beganon renovating it for use as a hotel. Architects 61 set outto restore the building’s existing facade. The neo-classicalcolumns and high-ceiling verandas were retained and the theShanghai plaster panel cladding was restored.However, the interior had to be completely transformedto accommodate the hotel’s 400 rooms. New additionsincluded the indoor garden and the new restaurant, where thebuilding’s historical lighthouse was kept and incorporated intothe decor.Allgood began work on the Fullerton in 1999, with a viewto supplying a high quality, bespoke package that wouldcomplement the building’s prestigious reputation.Allgood originally specified a combination of stainless steelHaft Elipse levers and matching pulls (top & bottom rightimages) in the public areas, along with bespoke FSB pullhandles for the ballroom doors (bottom left image). In the backof house area, Modric lever handles were fitted throughout,ensuring the hotel had a product that would last for at least 25years.More recently, Allgood were asked to provide new windowfittings in a polished stainless steel finish, to match the whitepainted windows in the bedroom

A fascinating contrast between authentic stone constructions and modern stainless steel. This apartment development is located in the middle of a leafy area and now features state-of-the-art Q-railing balustrades that empower the its natural looks. The all-glass Juliet balconies are nearly invisible, leaving the attractive stonework on full display. The Easy Glass Pro frameless balcony railings allow for beautiful views of the surroundings. In the interior, Q-railing’s Q-line baluster railing system was installed on the internal staircases.

PROJECT OVERVIEWThe Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts was designed by Foster & Partners and commissioned by main contractor Kier Eastern. The brief was to replace 30-year-old partitioning with a system capable of fitting in with a visually aesthetic solution which was in-keeping with the existing architectural style.OUR SCOPE OF WORKThe demands of supplying architectural partitioning solutions within a visual arts centre environment meant that only the highest standards of design and functionality would be acceptable. From the start of the design phase, we worked in partnership with Norman Foster and Kier to create unique modular steel and glass partitions throughout the building. Bespoke doors provided the ultimate finish. Our approach was to ensure that functionality and aesthetics worked together to deliver consistency and innovation throughout the building. Attention to detail was paramount to the success of installing bespoke partitions within the creative surroundings of the Centre. 

Renovation stripping out the building completely and rebuilding the walls, Passive Purple® was applied in between the connections of the internal side of the external walls which were a combination of masonry, timber, and steel frame. The ground floor ceiling was removed exposing the warped old timber joists with cracks in the surrounding brickwork and mortar. This was given attention to detail using Passive Purple® Brush to seal above an airtight foam to guarantee the airtightness of this major air leak zone before the final spray coat of Passive Purple® airtight membrane was applied. Passive Purple® was also used to seal window and door linings, ready for the new triple glazed windows to go in. Passive Purple® was sprayed on all the walls and ceiling. This is an ongoing project that still is awaiting an air test, the client is looking to hit 2.5 ach and installing MVHR.

Our client approached us with a unique challenge: they needed to convert their existing restaurant into a drive-thru establishment. Departing from conventional construction methods involving brick buildings, we proposed an innovative solution: a comprehensive aluminium bolt-on pod system. This system offered unparalleled advantages, allowing for rapid on-site expansion while minimising disruption to ongoing operations. Fabricated entirely off-site in our workshops, the pod system was swiftly assembled on-site, providing ample space for the drive-thru restaurant within a remarkably short timeframe. This modular approach not only streamlined the construction process but also empowered the main contractor to efficiently carry out internal fit-out works tailored to the client’s specific requirements.The aluminium pod system we implemented catered to carious needs, seamlessly integrating essential functionalities into its design. Within the structure, we incorporated designated spaces for a stockroom and an electrical intake room, ensuring optimal organisation and efficiency. Moreover, the pod featured a dedicated drive-thru serving booth, complete with a strategically positioned side access door and a robust, heavy duty drive-thru window system. Crafted from commercial-grade aluminium sections, the pod system was meticulously customised to reflect the client’s corporate identity, incorporating their distinctive colour schemes throughout. Solid infill panels, positioned below waist height and above the suspended ceiling height, added both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity to the design. By embracing innovation and customisation, we delivered a turnkey solution that not only met but exceeded our client’s expectations for their drive-thru restaurant conversion project.

Over 300 Optima casement windows and 60 doors from Profile 22 were used in a new 85-bed care home and 45 assisted living apartments in Sutton Coldfield. Background The Sutton Rose development in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield is a new build 85-bed care home with 45 assisted living apartments. The developer is renowned for delivering exceptional quality projects, which means suppliers have to meet exacting standards and quality specifications. The window and door contract were awarded to Sutton Designs in Kingstanding, Birmingham, with manufacturing undertaken by Profile 22’s Approved Commercial Manufacturer, Central Window Systems in West Bromwich. The two companies had worked on previous care projects, which meant that as well as being able to demonstrate their ability to meet the tender requirements for this project they also brought a proven track record. The window specification The window and door system specified for the project was award-winning Optima from Profile 22, a fully-integrated 70mm system which offers a step-change in advanced window design. The high-specification system comes with an impressive set of credentials and design flexibility to meet all commercial project requirements. In this project, all windows were fitted with open-out restrictors for the safety or the residents and all window and doors needed to comply with fire and smoke escape protection measures. Optima offers market-leading structural strength and high-security features and casement windows are PAS24:2016 approved as standard which was important to meet the project specification. The windows and doors were manufactured in Anthracite Grey on White to match other developments in building contractor’s portfolio and create a sleek, modern aluminium aesthetic. A carefully managed installation process Sutton Designs is an experienced new build and commercial window installation company and has worked with Central Window Systems for over three years. The two companies worked in close partnership to ensure all windows and doors were manufactured and installed to the required timescales. The project was completed during the Covid-19 pandemic, which meant appropriate health and safety considerations also needed to be taken into account. An impressive new elder care development The completed project will provide modern and well-equipped homes for the residents. Clement Windows Group have replaced the original steel fenestration at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, recently leased by the London Business School from Westminster Council on a 35 year renewable contract. In order to increase teaching facilities by 70 percent, the building has undergone a major £60m refurbishment and Wates Construction were chosen as the Main Contractors to undertake the challenge of joining the two iconic buildings in an eclectic mix of the traditional and contemporary. The new building, designed by architects Sheppard Robson, is named the Sammy Ofer Centre in honour of the late Sammy Ofer KBE.

The frontage of the Ocean Terminal shopping centre in Edinburgh has received a radical makeover as part of a major investment to increase footfall by enhancing the visitor experience. The extension has been covered with STEREO-KINETIC cladding; hundreds of freely-moving stainless steel sheets suspended from grating panels. Gusts of wind, traffic, even people walking by cause the metal rectangles to ripple in an ever-changing display. The kinetic artwork has been designed in such a way as to allow the passage of natural daylight through the underlying window openings on the second floor level.

Lang+Fulton were asked to supply louvred screening to provide shelter and a visual barrier for the café and outdoor pool areas at the Portavadie Marina Resort. A 2.5m high screen of Italia-100 panels was installed to provide 100% visual screening. The louvres have a free area of 29%, which helps to reduce wind loading, but, in order to cope with potential storm force conditions, the RHS posts were specially designed in accordance with BS EN 1991-1-4. A store area for bins and a secure compound for service plant fored an additional part of the contract. The steel louvres were polyester powder coated in a muted grey (RAL 7015) to a marine grade standard of finish to blend with the surroundings and withstand the harsh coastal climate.

If you’ve ever seen the film The King’s Speech with Colin Firth playing King George VI you’ll recall it features the King overcoming a debilitating speech impediment thanks to the world-famous speech therapist, Australian Lionel Logue. In real life Logue practised at 146 Harley Street between 1926 and 1952. In 2020 the 142-146 Harley Street premises underwent a substantial refurbishment at the request of owners Howard de Walden Estate. The Howard de Walden Estate extends 92 acres and includes the freehold to over 800 properties and includes the healthcare hub the Harley Street Medical Area [HSMA].The brief for the Harley Street premises was to provide a self-contained D1 Medical building of 6,299 ft² across lower ground floor to fourth floor. The linked grade II listed buildings needed to provide accommodation suitable for a ‘first in class’ medical operator to work from, whist retaining and respecting the building’s historic character and charm. It was also noted that the restoration and improvement works should serve to enhance the overall appearance of the neighbouring properties and surrounding Harley Street Medical Area.Working alongside Howard De Walden Estates were Sonnemann Toon Architects LLP, construction contractor Whistlers Ltd and architectural ironmonger 3v Hardware. 3v specified, scheduled and supplied the ironmongery packages for both the traditional upper floors, and the contemporary lower medical area floors for this piece of 19th century architecture.“The project presented a challenge to 3v Architectural Hardware who were given two separate briefs. The old building needed updating while retaining its traditional feel and the medical areas in the basement required a practical and easily maintained product,” said Chris Taylor at 3v.Matt black and satin steelProducts supplied included traditional knob furniture from Frank Allart in a matt black nickel finish for the traditional areas and Vieler satin stainless steel furniture for the medical areas. All the accessories were carefully chosen in matching or sympathetic finishes. For example it was not possible to fit concealed closer into the existing doors and therefore overhead, surface mounted white closers were used to blend in with the door finish.Appropriate sash window furniture was sourced and supplied in the same matt black nickel finish.The client requested that modern fire signage on the face of the door be avoided if at all possible. Instead, ‘lollipop’ signage was suggested, but with the caveat that this did not comply with the guidelines of BS5499 and therefore approval from Building Control would be required. Samples were put forward and approved (two per door leaf were supplied: one for the leading edge and one for the jamb but only one has been fitted).The project was finished to such a high standard it secured 3v Architectural Hardware and Sonnemann Toon architects a highly commended in the Public Health and Education category in the GAI/RIBA Specification Awards 2022. GAI technical manager Douglas Masterson, who chaired the judging panel and performed the inspections of shortlisted projects, called this project “really impressive”. “The history of this building felt tangible as you walked around it and the ironmongery specified really tapped in to this,” he says. “The matching of the various items of ironmongery products throughout was exquisite and the matt black specified was an impressive contrast to the white door.
