Artesian House is an eight-storey building comprises 73 mixed-tenure flats, located in Bermondsey, London that is managed by the Hyde Group, alongside a large number of private leaseholder.Artesian House features a distinctive curved design, and so frequent design meetings were crucial to the success of the project. To ensure compliance and thermal performance for the project, three ROCKWOOL® products were specified, namely for cavity barrier protection and insulation.With this in mind, ROCKWOOL Rainscreen Duo Slab, ROCKWOOL SP Firestop Slab and ROCKWOOL SP Firestop Open State Cavity Barrier (OSCB) was installed throughout the building.

In transforming three high-rise residential towers for Sandwell Borough Council, non-combustible cladding solution was provided by both ROCKWOOL and Rockpanel for this development.

The O2 arena's roof needed state-of-the-art acoustic engineering to eliminate virtually all nuisance ambient noise (bass thumping) outside the arena contributing to fantastic acoustics inside the structure.The complex roof design featured several layers of different density barrier materials to deaden even the lowest bass frequencies, all carried on special acoustic deck structures. The structural deck troughs were filled with ROCKWOOL RW4 insulation, with ROCKWOOL Acoustic membrane over and a 50mm Rigidal intermediate deck.

Aldgate Tower is an office development that comprises 16 floors of Grade A revolutionary office space.ROCKWOOL products were specified for the insulation of pipework.A combination of non-combustible products provided thermal performance for the lifetime of the building, as well as providing a sustainable solution for the building that helped meet the BREEAM requirements for an 'Excellent' rating. 

Based in the poplar region of the LondonBorough of Tower Hamlets, the Streamlight Tower is a 24-storey high-rise building comprising of 90 flats.Higgins Partnerships was appointed by Swan Housing toundertake reclad works to bring the building in line withmodern building regulations.For this installation ROCKWOOL Steel Frame Slab non-combustible stone wool was used.

Bespoke finishing joiner Josh Williams was all too familiar with the impact of noise when he embarked on his first build. The Royal Academy of Music in Regent’s Park, London underwent a renovation but needed to ensure three qualities were met, creating stunningly beautiful, acoustically brilliant, and inspiring spaces for staff and students.The 309-seat Susie Sainsbury Theatre was completely refurbished and created the new 100-seat rooftop Angela Burgess Recital Hall.The project marked one of the most significant building and renovation projects in the Academy’s near-200-year history.To help achieve these qualities ROCKWOOL HardRock® Multi-Fix (DD) insulation board was considered and installed.

Higher Potential is a north London based charity that helps disenfranchised young people, with projects designed to divert them away from anti-social behaviour and embrace education, helping them to develop life skills and reaching their potential.Within the two-storey building the area was created for young people to express themselves through dance, drama and music video production.To achieve this, the building required a suitable acoustic treatment to avoid noise leakage whilst creating an acoustically neutral space for music production.ROCKWOOL Sound Insulation Slab and Acoustic RockFloor were implemented.

Clarin College in Athenry, Republic of Ireland was specified by Healy Partners Architects who wanted to ensure the flat roof build-up should be constructed with non-combustible insulation. Here East involved the transformation of the former Media Campus.  The team at Laing O’Rourke were tasked with designing the building’s fire protection scheme that also accommodates building movements such as movement between floors and in services.

Kier Group is a leading property, residential, construction and services group, which invests in, builds, maintains and renews buildings operating across many sectors, including housing, defence, education, power, transport and utilities.Kier handled both the design and delivery process and worked directly with Cottenham-based roofing contractor, Voland Roofing, on this project.Kier wanted the roof to not only insulate against airborne sound, but also to reduce noise from the impact of raindrops on the roof.

Technical Manager Tim Spencer “The initial need was for an elegant high-performance ceiling grid that could span 2500mm and support the ceiling infill. The answer was a bespoke version of our Rockfon® System MaxiSpan™ grid. We were then briefed to find an acoustic solution to resolve the acoustic challenges for the spaces which would host a variety of music concerts. We worked in partnership with ROCKWOOL and the solution was bespoke 100mm thick Rockfon Color-all® black ceiling tiles in combination with 100mm ROCKWOOL FLEXI® overlay and 40mm thick Color-all panels together with 100mm or 160mm FLEXI for the walls.”

The new Mock Veterinary Practice at the University of Nottingham has elevated the existing veterinary facilities by providing 3 separate elements: a fully serviced veterinary practice for small animals, space for general teaching facilities, and larger agricultural facilities for livestock.ChallengeSpecialist building envelope contractor Spectrum Building Envelopes & Façades Ltd were contracted to take responsibility of the façade on the building - and turn to use the Fixfast façade support system, including SPIDI® Max brackets within the construction.SolutionThe Fixfast façade support system is the complete package when it comes to façades. Highly versatile, the bracket and rail system can be configured for any rainscreen façade project - including sloping façades and curved structures.The one-bracket design translates into ease of use on-site - no more separate brackets for fixed or sliding points, SPIDI® Max brackets can be used in either fixed or sliding positions and can be easily adapted to either horizontal or vertical configurations.In conjunction with DrillFast stainless steel self-drilling fasteners, the façade was fixed securely and efficiently into place on-site. The timber rainscreen construction consisted of a Sansin coated Thermowood vertically laid, plank on plank timber façade, with a 270mm thick Rockwool Duo Slab insulated cavity, all fixed back to a cross limited timber frame. Fixfast were able to offer a comprehensive design solution, which was tailored to suit our construction depths. The SPIDI Max façade system adopted was a complete package solution. Among many similar new-build projects completed or underway across the country, non-combustible Rockpanel is providing stunning facades for this eye-catching, contemporary urban living in Bracknell, Berkshire, while meeting the stringent regulations regarding fire-safety in high-rise residential structures.Consisting of 242 apartments divided across two distinct angular blocks of up to 11 storeys, this residential scheme promotes itself as heralding a new era in luxury living for the region. The wedge shaped blocks are placed at angles to create a broad, elegant thoroughfare where seating invites residents and others to linger and enjoy the landscaped surroundings. Stepped elevations allow for generous terraces to one block while the acute angle formed on another results in striking feature balconies. The mix of sleek white render contrasts well with the Rockpanel Woods facades which add a natural, organic warmth. Meeting challenges to create a landmark development The Building Design Group were architects for the project. With offices in Birmingham and Tamworth, BDG has evolved from its inception more than 45 years ago, in to a dynamic, forward thinking practice. Describing the development, they said, “BDG were appointed following a successful planning process to develop this project further to tender stage and beyond. The site itself presented numerous challenges in terms both of access and existing constraints located above and below ground. However, we believe we succeeded in progressing the technical design to the extent that our client's aspirations could be met, both in terms of cost and the desire to establish a landmark development for the future.”Vascroft Contractors Ltd were main contractors for the development. The London-based firm has grown from its founding in the 1970 by two brothers, into a thriving concern made up of four divisions working on projects across all major building sectors. Around 2500sqm of facades were installed at Grand Exchange, using a mix of Rockpanel Alder and Slate Oak surface designs from the manufacturer’s super realistic Woods range, along with RAL 2010 colour-matched deep orange accent panels. Versatile, resilient and sustainable design freedom Lightweight and highly versatile, and without the need for additional edge sealing, Rockpanel can be curved, perforated, engraved or routed, and will last for decades with minimal maintenance. Although the majority of panels were cut off-site, the flexibility of Rockpanel meant the more complicated architectural features of the build could be cut to size on site easily. The lightweight nature of the material ensured it could be distributed swiftly around the complex shaped build.” The ultimate facade systemThe facades were fixed to a concrete frame with bespoke Protec SFS system infill, which Stoneguard design and manufacture themselves. The project also utilised FSI cavity barriers and ROCKWOOL Duo Slab® insulation, which offers great thermal and acoustic values and achieves European fire class A1. Combined with Rockpanel A2 and an aluminium or steel substructure it fulfils the most rigid fire safety requirements and is required in achieving A2-s1,d0 Euroclass rating to secure the ultimate protection and safety for the building’s users.Rockpanel facade panels and ROCKWOOL insulation products share common characteristics, including their inherent sustainability and non-combustibility, which is due to the naturally occurring and replenishing volcanic rock used in the manufacture of the stone wool that forms their core. Grand Exchange Building Manager, Adam Spiers, “I must commend the design team for their outstanding work on the facades of the building.
