In 2014 the famous Abbey Road studio was granted planning permission for a multi-million-pound expansion project, which included replicating the zebra crossing - most famous for The Beatles posing on it for their album cover. As part of the £17.6 billion Crossrail project, Tottenham Court Road underground station was given a major transformation. Located in the heart of London’s West End, Tottenham Court Road was expanded with a new underground station and ticket hall and a second integrated ticket hall.Due to the huge reconstruction of the the station, it was in need of a modern, high performance and non-combustible insulation solution which wouldn’t have a visible impact on the overall design of the station. A combination of attributes that traditional insulation products struggle to deliver.

TRC been appointed by Milestone Contracting to survey, remove, manufacture, install and replace over 200 spring balance sash windows at Lorraine road in London.Engineered to a high standard, spring sash windows exude quality and style.Modern spring sash windows operate in a smooth and seamless manner. By replacing the original cord with a spring-loaded mechanism, the windows are much easier to slim down. This enables sections of the frame to need less room for housing the extra reveal space (where the heavy weights and pulleys were once placed). Refurbished and remodelled in 2021 to become the headquarters for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in Edinburgh, was the McDonald Road Fire Station. We were pleased to work with Robertson Construction, Smith Scott Mullan Associates and HSR Building Services to supply Argeton terracotta and Corium brick cladding to complete the project.

Skerries Road Southway Campus in Plymouth comprises of 67 timber frame units supplied by local manufacturer and STA member Cornwall Timber Build. Originally a traditional block exterior, the architects changed the design to accommodate the innovative RendaClad façade. The programme was delivered 3 months ahead of schedule on the overall contract when utilising a form of modern methods of construction with the use of SPSenvirowall’s RendaClad. Whilst not satisfied with the BBA for a minimum 30-year service life, SPSenvirowall went into contract with BOPAS BLP and Lloyds Register to achieve a stand-alone assurance.

DCM Surfaces were delighted to install Wetpour onto the Rooftop Terrace at Burdett Road in Canary Wharf.The affordable housing project, which rises from 7 to 11 stories, included the development of 56 residential units, amenity space, cycle parking, and a play area on the roof terrace.Four colours of Wetpour was used to create a variety of graphics at various depths around the play equipment area.

Over 4000sqm of Optima TFC+ in 3mm Aluminium polyester powder coating has been used in the completion of One Ashley Road, near Tottenham’s tube station in North London, with 5.0mm aluminium selected for column at the entrance to offer a more rigid panel face.The Optima TFC+ system was collaboratively selected by Sotech, CCS Façades and the Client Design Team as it could be adapted to suit the unique geometry of the architect’s vision.Taking inspiration from The Eagle Pencil Co (later taken over by Berol), which operated in the area, the building’s geometry follows the hexagonal shape of a pencil.The hexagonal style of the building meant adaptations were required to manufacture and install the unique pattern and shapes of both the ground floor soffits and the perforated panels.3D models were created by the Sotech team to perfect the final panels before manufacture. This required a lot of design collaboration with Our Client CCS FaçadesThis modelling process saved huge amounts of time and money over producing physical mock ups, and ensured the installation process on site went smoothly.Sotech’s Principal Technical Engineer, Mohammadreza Jenaban (Mo), ran number of specific computer simulation analyses on various panel types including colonnade panels, soffit panels, feature band panels, parapet panels subject to abseil loading and standard panels. The main purposes of carrying out these analyses were first safety and then performance / rigidity within the given boundary conditions.Amy Burns, 3D Model Coordinator at Sotech, played a lead role on the design side, creating detailed manufacturing schedules and 3D assemblies of each area of the building. 2 Ashely Road, one of the new buildings which make up the development at Tottenham Hale, has recently been completed.

Metal Technology products have been used to give a stunning facelift to an office building on London’s Edgeware Road. The refurbishment design by Architects AWW (Atkins Walters Webster) specified a high performance façade system engineered to reduce air leakage and exceed current insulation values. Commenting on the scheme, project architect Mark Alker Stone said: “AWW is refurbishing this prominent building to provide a contemporary building as a new landmark within Colindale that benefits the local area in terms of its architectural quality, energy performance and contribution to Edgware Road.”

A 36 metre long mono-pitched Twinfix canopy installed at Lancaster Road Primary School in Morecambe has added considerably to the education of their 90 reception children. The new canopy is adjacent to the classrooms, thus ensuring easy free-flow of indoor/outdoor provision.

TfL News: Preformed Thermoplastic Is Now The Line Marking Of Choice On London’s Dedicated Cycleways The latest addition of the London Cycling Design Standards (September 2016, minor amendments) has confirmed that preformed thermoplastic markings are now the preferred method of marking London’s Cycle Superhighways.Before this amend to specification requirements back in late 2016, the standard used by contractors throughout the transportation network was a mix of water based paint, Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), chlorinated rubber and single pack epoxy. The standardising of the product type defines the requirements for health and safety including reflectivity – BS EN 1790 Preformed Markings. It is a requirement all contractors meet the criteria during the line marking process. As of September 2016, you can find minor amendments following the publication of TSRGD.Chapter 7.2.7 states:“A consistent standard of road markings is required, as described in TSRGD and the Traffic Signs Manual, chapter 5. This 2018 Brick Awards winning project, the development on Creek Road, comprises of 83 contemporary homes and 1,800 sqm of commercial floor space. The architectural brief called for the brickwork to mirror an existing type and colour dating back to Victorian times. The selection of building materials was pivotal to the realisation of the project, and after careful consideration of the various options a decision was taken to centre the construction around one primary brick type: British manufactured Ibstock’s Funton Old Chelsea Yellow bricks, locally sourced from our Ashdown Factory, East Sussex.

DVS recently provided several hand sanitising stations to Didsbury Road School ahead of it's reopening after the pandemic. Encouraging excellent hand hygiene has never been so important as it is today. We were thrilled to provide two Dart Valley branded AC00-050 free standing sanitiser dispensers for the entrance of the school before children returned on March 8th. 

Described as a ‘game-changer’ for west London, 245 Hammersmith Road is a stunning 11-floor, commercial office building which comprises 242,000 sq. ft of flexible, collaborative space to inspire and connect its occupants. When it came to managing the riser zone, developer Lendlease turned to Ambar Kelly’s innovative RiserSafe® system to create a secure construction environment that would keep subcontracting teams safe whilst work was being completed. Ambar Kelly has built a strong working relationship with Lendlease and has collaborated with the contractor on other projects including IQL Stratford.

The Bryncae development on Bridgend Road, Pontyclun is a three-phased residential scheme that aimed to bring much needed housing to the growing commuter town in South Wales. In phase one of the development, a mix of flats, bungalows and houses were built, along with three business units which were filled by Co-op Food, Greggs and Bella’s Boutique. Taylor Maxwell worked with architects Buckmaster Batcup, who were appointed by Rhondda Housing Association, to specify and supply Stonepanel stone cladding and weatherboard cladding to the project, along with blue facing bricks in a soldier course detail above and below the windows. The scheme was managed by supply chain partner Wates Group. The second and third stages delivered a further mix of houses and flats, with work carried out by M&J Cosgrove and Morganstone respectively. Holder Matthias Architects were the architects on phases two and three, carrying out the precedent set in phase one.

Over 400 of Howe Green’s Access Covers have been supplied to Tier 1 contractors working on Europe’s largest construction project – Crossrail. Over 60 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Multipart Floor Access Covers were supplied specifically for Tottenham Court Road Station. The large 4 part units were precision made to order to ensure they would be a perfect fit, avoiding slips and trips in such a highly trafficked and challenging environment. The covers have been infilled with granite to match the surrounding area and supplied with barrel lifting points, with just the securing bolt and barrel edge visible.

THE PROJECTThe Building a Safer Future Charter has been created to promote an urgent and positive culture and behaviour change in the safety of the built environment. It is about putting people’s safety first in how we plan for, design, build, maintain, and look after the safety of the buildings we live, work or play in and protect those that use them.THE PRODUCTSLB’s 2 hour Fire-rated mailboxes were used on this project at Cambridge Road, London for a large Housing Association and arranged on a radius, providing an interesting yet highly functional arrangement of 2-hour integrity only fully tested mailboxes. The Fire-rated range from SLB is tested at Exova Warrington and exceeds 2 hours in temperatures beyond that of molten lava without distortion, flame or deterioration. This system was polyester powder coated in a burnt orange RAL colour, powder used conforms to London Underground specifications.This arrangement is also comprised of manual parcelboxes positioned underneath with a manual locking option.

The Ruskin Square car park in Dingwall Road was fully modernised to help accommodate growing car parking needs. It is conveniently located to local attractions such as the Whitgift Shopping Centre and BoxPark Croydon. With these local retail and leisure facilties on the car park’s doorstep, it was necessary to ensure that it is secure and compliant for all its users. The car park itself is fully accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so safety was a key priority throughout the project. It houses 565 parking bays for people to use and resembles an effective resource in the local area to provide access to these key sites. We ensured that all of the products specified on the project were fit for purpose and met the client’s needs. We installed a combination of RB1X posts, handrail, mesh and our patented BS EN 6180 restraint strap to create a total solution. Pedestrian protection was a key priority so we specified our BS EN 6180 restraint strap that offers limited deflection on the handrail from pedestrian loading. The strap reinforces the handrail to provide additional protection to the vehicle restraint system.

Lampton Road in Hounslow is currently undergoing the construction of 940 new affordable homes. The final development will consist of multiple blocks of flats, and the chosen external sheathing board for these structures is Klasse G-board.

Located only minutes from East Croydon Station, each timber frame unit accommodates four individuals, providing a new beginning for singles and families. The lower ground floor level is screened from the public, providing privacy to its residents, with accommodation throughout the roof space.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified by Tone Architecture due to it being suitable for all floor types and is frequently viewed as the solution of choice for new build and refurbishment developments. A new residential development is being constructed on Roxwell Road in Barking. Overall the development will consist of 87 new homes, including 80 flats.The chosen external sheathing board for this project is the Klasse G-board.

Double and triple track AluK sliding doors and windows form a key element in an award-winning residential development on Old Ford Road, alongside London’s Hertford Union Canal and overlooking Victoria Park. Three houses, three duplexes and two flats have replaced derelict storage structures on a tight, 465m2 triangular site developed by Earth Residential. The geometric design, by architects pH+ Architects, echoes both the industrial wharf buildings which characterise the canal side and the Georgian terraces which surround the park.

Travelodge have recently started a £100million nationwide modernisation programme as well as an increase of their Hotel brand sites. Travelodge Oxford is a New Build Development on Abingdon Road, built to help with the growing demand for affordable hotel accommodation in Oxford, mainly due to the increase in tourism as well as families visiting students in the city.The new Travelodge on Abingdon Road has 83 rooms, to supplement the demand in the area. The existing Travelodge in Oxford which was built in 1999, also has plans to be upgraded and refurbished with a new entrance, conservatory and a revamped restaurant.Soundis supplied the acoustic flooring at this Travelodge project for the Main Contractor Hinton Design & Build. The Travelodge specification for a high quality acoustic flooring system included 22mm T&G Chipboard and 19mm Plasterboard Plank, over a 30mm high density Rockfloor insulation floor slab with acoustic flanking edging band around the perimeter to separate and isolate all abutments. The whole project required over 1,200 sq metres of acoustic flooring.

Say goodbye to Bechtel House and hello to 245 Hammersmith Road. Here the external painted concrete soffit of the undercroft was in poor condition. It needed a solution which would require low future maintenance due to its inaccessible position. Two coats of KEIM Soldalit were applied to the soffit for a long-lasting coverage, and KEIM Concretal Lasur applied to each column to create a uniform finish.
