The 128-year-old MacDonald hotel in the home of golf was designed by Scottish firm WCP Architects and raises the bar for luxury in St Andrews. Installation was by MetalTech Roofing and Cladding Limited.

Iso-Mount Type1 significantly reduces transmission of noise from the floor above with minimum ceiling height loss. The mount was tested to BS EN 1365-2:2014 Fire Resistance Tests for Loadbearing Elements at BRE Group’s laboratory in Watford in December 2018. Iso-Mount Type1 can be specified for projects ranging from house conversion to flats, both new build and renovation, as well as shops, restaurants and other commercial soundproofing applications.

The Solution The development needed to be designed and constructed as a natural extension to the traditional and original town centre. Forterra’s Oakthorpe Red Multi Stock brick was chosen to achieve the desired effect. The Benefits Alongside retail space, the scheme also encompasses restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, college campus, office accommodation, a hotel and 500-space carpark. Since its opening in November 2015, Flemingate has been credited with having a transformational impact on the local economy.

DRU designer gas fires specified for Television Centre, former iconic BBC HQ

Television Centre in Shepherds Bush, West London, is the iconic former BBC HQ that was opened in 1960. Architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and developers Stanhope have now created a multi-media environment that includes apartments, offices, studios, hotels, restaurants and retail, all based around the famous crescents that defined the original complex. DRU Metro 100XT/2 designer gas fires were specified for a selection of the apartments and were installed by DRU dealers Victoria Stone of Tunbridge Wells. They utilise the exclusive DRU PowerVent system, which enables the fires to be installed in apartment complexes and other challenging locations.

On October 22, 2021, the doors to the new Edvard Munch Museum by the waterfront in Bjørvika in Oslo were finally opened. The museum will be a global destination for experiencing Edvard Munch's art and life – but also other art exhibitions and cultural experiences such as music, film, art talks, and various types of performances. With thousands of daily visitors, high demands were placed on the museum's seating furniture to be both extremely durable and robust, but at the same time comfortable and blend into the museum's interior.The new museum is a very prestigious project for Oslo and an inviting meeting place that is characterized by openness. The vision is to expand the idea of ​​what a museum can be, and offer the visitors completely new experiences and perspectives.The 13-storey and 58-meter-high building was designed by the Spanish architectural firm Estudio Herreros and includes eleven exhibition halls. Herrero's design is based on the idea of ​​a tower-shaped museum, where the main functions are organized vertically. With its impressive height and the distinctly leaning top section, the tower is a very visible landmark from all sides. It gives the Oslo skyline a new shape, but bows respectfully towards the surrounding city. The façade, which is clad in recycled, perforated aluminium panels with varying degrees of transparency, gives the museum an enigmatic and ever-changing presence that reflects the fantastic lighting conditions in Oslo that change during the day and the different seasons. In the old harbour area Bjørvika, the new Munch Museum is also accompanied by Snøhetta's opera building and the new library designed by architectural firm Lundhagem.The museum's main hall has extraordinary acoustics and can accommodate up to 700 people while the hall on the 12th floor has a roof terrace with a unique view of the city and the fjord. In addition, there is a cinema in the foyer that can be used for more intimate gatherings. The museum has around 28,000 objects – of which 1,200 paintings and over 7,000 drawings and sketches – created by the extremely productive Edvard Munch in its collections and for the first time, these works will truly have the space they deserve.The museum also wants to deepen and enrich the experience and insights further by inviting visitors to play and express themselves artistically and offers a range of tours and activities for both young and old.Food is also a natural part of the experience. At the very top of the building is a first-class restaurant. In addition, there is a café on the ground level next to the fjord and a bar with a fantastic roof terrace. With its unique formulation and ultimate scuff resistant technology, it’s perfect for maintaining that crisp, just painted look for longer. Paul Schofield Managing director of PA Schofield Ltd explained: “New Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt is a great product that really works. It has really good application and absolutely no flashing at all. The clients are over the moon with the finish and durability of the product, and so are we. We will use it again without question.” As director of PA Schofield Ltd, based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, Paul was given complete responsibility for conceiving and implementing all design decisions. For his starting point, Paul paired statement wallpapers with contemporary floor finishes. He complimented the wallpaper through a colour scheme that combined colours such as Coyote Grey, Perfectly Taupe and Winter Avenue. Ceilings were painted in Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt, while Dulux Trade Satinwood was used on the trim and Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt on the walls, along with Dulux Trade Diamond Matt in some areas. Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt is an ultra-tough formulation, designed to cope with the scuffs and everyday wear and tear of busy commercial spaces. And he identified a number of benefits from using it on the project, explaining: “It flowed really well on rollers and brushes and left an excellent finish overall. “And there was no flashing or colour difference from roller to cutting in. “It’s really brilliant for touching in, too. We’d often have to redo entire walls as spots we’d touched in stood out like a sore thumb, but there was none of that with the new Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt.” Paul was supported on the project by Lee Crossland, Leeds and Yorkshire Technical Support Manager for Dulux Decorator Centre 360. Lee said: “I’d heard PA Schofields was about to start work on the high-end restaurant conversion so got in contact with Paul to let him know about our new product that would be perfect for him. “I talked Paul through the benefits of Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt and that the appearance of the finish would be an ideal fit for the design he was looking to achieve, while explaining how the improved durability would allow the restaurant to look better for longer. From start to finish the process took 18 months. And Paul has been checking in to see how the Dulux Trade ScuffShield Matt has been performing. He added: “The clients are very happy that the paint cleaned easily without removing the paint from the plaster substrate. On its 58th floor, an awe-inspiring viewing gallery offers breathtaking vistas. Perched even higher, on level 59, a discreetly hinted restaurant is poised to offer an unparalleled dining experience, with a renowned chef at the helm. Although the details remain a secret, the restaurant promises to be a highlight. Beyond its striking stature and exclusive amenities, the project's core objective revolved around enhancing the base build construction to optimize noise levels for the activities and events within the Viewing Gallery. Aiming to strike a balance, the project sought to both amplify the permissible noise levels for these events while curbing any potential noise breakthrough into adjacent spaces.In the dynamic context of 22 Bishopsgate, where concrete installation was unfeasible due to location and occupied lower floors, a visionary solution was sought. Over 1246m², the innovative Stravifloor Channel floating floor system was meticulously installed. In lieu of concrete, a bespoke approach utilizing high mass calcium sulphate boards was designed, ensuring both functionality and practicality. Addressing concerns about floor height, custom-designed bearings were engineered to maintain top-tier acoustic performance, with a mere 30 mm thickness.Despite a demanding timeline to unveil the viewing gallery, the project remained on track. Stravifloor Channel, with isolated steel battens, played a pivotal role. Galvanized steel channels provided robust support over isolation pads, while the optimized discrete supports allowed minimal contact points to the subfloor.

Cemfloor Level Plus was supplied by Capital Concrete and installed by Advance Screeding UK ltdClose to the River Thames, and next to Brentford football club in West London, Kew Bridge is a selection of beautiful new homes, as well as shops, cafes and restaurants. It is part of the wider Brentford regeneration project, and developed by EcoWorld.There are a total of 6 blocks on the site, and Cemfloor was the screed of choice for the main contractor.The main contractor had problems with the floor levels on site, so Cemfloor provided a thin screed system to work alongside the unique low profile UFH system; a castellated mat system installed onto Superfoil insulation. The UFH system was supplied by Compact Underfloor Heating. The complete floor build was only 45mm in depth and included acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, castellated UFHsystem, and Cemfloor Level Plus.Advanced Screeding installed Cemfloor Level Plus throughout the development. In total 800m3 of screed was easily pumped to height, over 11 floors without issue,providing an excellent, fast drying low profile floor, and saving significant time on the project.As Cemfloor Level Plus is a ready mixed solution it removed the need for any site mixing, material storage and material disposal from the site. Given the volume of screed required; if a self leveling compound product was used this would have equated to approx. 55,000 x 25kg bags of material having to be mixed on site.

THE PROJECTFloral Court is a mixed-use development featuring a high-quality residential, retail and restaurant space located in London’s Covent Garden. The project has created a new public walkway between Floral Street and King Street, providing increased footfall levels that provide a vital link to the retail and restaurant units in the development.THE PRODUCTThe mailboxes used in the Floral Court project are situated in internal lobby areas that residents pass through to access their apartment. Each bank of mailboxes is fitted into a bespoke timber frame with an internal steel frame support that ensures multiple mailboxes are securely installed in their respective locations.The chosen mailbox model for this development is the NW2 product, an item that is particularly popular with clients looking for a mailbox that has a minimalist design finish and where mail is to be both delivered and retrieved through the front face. This project uses a lateral variation of the NW2 mailbox, which allows for A4 sized flexible mail to be deposited and securely stored in the post box. The lateral type of post box typically features a shorter depth and larger width, which is ideal for installation areas that are relatively narrow.To reflect the number of residences that they service, the mailboxes are in a variety of different configurations across the site.Each post box has been engraved with corresponding residence numbers during the manufacturing process. To allow for a clean finish on the mailbox, the client opted for the engraving to be the same colour as the mailboxes themselves. Being used with the NW2 product, which has been specifically designed to have minimal features, this is the ideal mailbox and engraving combination for a sleek designer look.The mailbox is engraved with the font family ‘Calisto MT’, which is used in other locations on the site. This ensures a consistent mirroring of fonts used throughout the Floral Court development.

The re-invention of this famous building will create a place where people come together to work, stay and play. It will be a new cultural destination for the city. It will be a culture of cool places, a world-renowned hotel, studios, workspace, food and drink.The old Granada Studios is anchored by the internationally renowned Soho House Group with their stylish members’ club, restaurant, bar and the new concept Mollie’s Motel. The iconic studios have also been modernised and activated by Manchester Studios with the best production and broadcast facilities in Manchester, they are once again the city’s leading creativity complex for TV, film, music and digital content.Soundis supplied of an area approximately 7,000 sq meters, across 9 different levels which consisted of various flooring build ups.  Systems included, the Soundis Cradle & Batten Acoustic Flooring System to help improve both airborne and impact performance, this system is also compliant with Robust Details FFT2. Overlayed were the Soundis Dry Screed Panels; applied to level the structural deck to minimum of SR2 Standards. Another flooring system we supplied at this project was the Soundis CineSystem Ultra Floor offering many additional acoustic benefits. This system also offers the greatest strength, whilst the large dead load that the floated slab provides, ensures minimal movement under the addition of any live loading.

In response to customer needs, the team at Beachside Holiday Park was investing in a large refurbishment, to totally transform the main building, providing a new, spacious, cohesive reception, restaurant, bar and soft play area with an overall beachside theme. The refurbishment needed to be completed in time for an expected busy holiday season.ApproachIn the large reception, restaurant and bar area, flooring choice was vitally important to achieving the overall vision, with the team wanting to create a space that shouted sunny seaside, even if it was raining outside. Beachside turned to Ian Williams of Ace Flooring & Carpets on the recommendation of their main contractor. “We worked closely with Ben and the team at Beachside to make sure we got the look and feel they were after,” explained Ian. The toilets and back of house areas also needed a refresh, providing customers and staff with hygienic and safe spaces.SolutionThe Beachside Holiday Park needed a floor for front of house that provided longevity, durability, looked good and was easy to maintain. The team at Beachside Holiday Park and Ace Flooring worked together on this incredibly impactful space and selected two wood-look options of Altro Ensemble modular flooring. In the kitchens, Ace Flooring recommended the tried and tested combination of Altro Crete resin floor and Altro Whiterock hygienic wall cladding to deliver a robust, resilient and hygienic Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) approved solution. In the toilets and throughout the back of house, the installation of sustainable Altro XpressLay adhesive-free safety floor reduced the downtime of these busy areas.The design was so good, Ace Floor and the Beachside team were nominated for, and won, an Altro Design Recognition Award.

Towelrads worked to the exact specification requirements supplying the Kensington model with a bold, square bar design in black finish.The radiators have been installed as electric-only towel warmers with SMART thermostatic heating elements in matching black controls, which enables temperature adjustment and a boosted power mode.

Peakmoor was the stone of choice as it has a long history in the City.The project presents a major new Aztec rainscreen facade in the Peakmoor sandstone with balconies and a fully glazed iconic feature tower. A truly wonderful building with flexibility; lightweight, A1 non-combustible Aztec Natural Stone Cladding.

Millets Farm is a family run farm centre including farm shop, garden centre, leisure attractions and activity areas.  This award winning location has now turned to Marsh Industries twice in 5 years for expert advice on how to best support the expanding facilities onsite.In the first instance, a sewage treatment plant was required for its Children’s Activity Centre in 2017.  A Marsh Ultra:Polylok 125PE was selected for this popular destination.In 2021 this thriving regional attraction identified that the existing sewage treatment arrangements for the main Farm Shop, Restaurant and Function rooms needed to be upgraded.  Millets Farm again turned to Marsh Industries.  This time a Marsh Ultra:Polylok 250PE was required to cover the variety of facilities and their associated footfall alongside the increased staff numbers. With installation successfully completed in the Autumn between school holidays.
