Early discussion with Forza regarding project floor plans and elevations enabled the Forza team to prepare veneer layons that fully utilised the potential of the species distinctive decorative features and then create panel layout drawings in order that product delivered to site was clearly sequentially numbered for installation. Incorporated in the project joinery component package for Forza were items such as skirting and lift surrounds in addition to mirror frames and IPS panels for “Boutique” style washrooms.

Built to service both Coventry and Warwick universities, this development comprises of a basement and eleven upper floors. It provides student accommodation for a total of 262 residents in the form of 185 single bed studios, 31 ‘twodio’ apartments and 15 single bed mezzanine studios.Brief:Working with the owners Morlet Properties, Skopos were asked to provide curtains for all bedrooms. The requirement was a durable, unlined, dimout fabric with the relevant FR certification for this contract environment. Full coverage from wall to wall and floor to ceiling was also essential.Outcome:A clean neutral and grey décor was used throughout the complex so a complimentary curtain colour was key.Nero Ebony from the wide width Mezzanotte collection was chosen for it’s light obscuring properties. The black colourway fitted with the sleek, minimal finish.Skopos provided full service including supplying all made-up items, measuring and fitting tracks and curtains in all 231 bedrooms

Schlüter-Systems provided a variety of trims and movement joints to ensure a damage-free finish for the tiled walls and floors of high-end residential project, Landmark Place. The 280,193sq ft Barratt Homes development has an enviable position on the north bank of the River Thames, near the iconic Tower Bridge, and boasts 165 one-bed suites, one, two and three bed apartments and penthouses across 10 storeys. It replaces Sugar Quay, a 1970s office building built for Tate and Lyle, which was purchased by CPC Group back in 2012.

Located in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham near the university campus, the £12.5 million building was designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects and incorporates 267 bed spaces in five different room styles including cluster en-suite, studio apartments and even a penthouse, as well as a gym and communal lounge.

A Gloucestershire based independent care provider has recently completed a 46 bed extension on their care home for clients with dementia and nursing care requirements. Having worked with the contractor on a similar project, Astor Bannerman were recommended to the company to supply ceiling track hoists in an effort to future proof the needs of the home. With floor space at a premium, the company wanted to move away from the traditional style mobile hoists, which need to be stored away when not in use. Also, as using a ceiling hoist system normally only requires one carer to operate, this enables the company to adapt to the possible implications of Brexit on staffing levels.During the installation, we successfully added an XY (H-frame) hoist system into 3 assisted bathrooms and added 3m straight track OT200 hoists in 6 bedrooms allowing simple transfer in an out of bed.Fixings were also installed during the main build in the remaining 40 bedrooms, enabling the care provider to retrofit track and hoists as and when they require them at any point in the future.

Foxhill Manor is an 8-bedroom Grade II-listed manor house on the 400-acre Farncombe Estate in the stunning Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty. Extensively refurbished in 2014 as an exclusive-use venue for weddings, house parties and corporate retreats, twin Amalfi baths feature in the Oak Room suite. Designer Frances Cracknell of Trevillion Interiors said of the design: “We wanted the eight individual bedroom suites to be contemporary, yet sympathetic to the Arts and Crafts heritage of the original house. Each bedroom has been carefully furnished with contemporary and antique pieces and embellished with a broad art portfolio. When it was being built, the trust specified a need for practical and safe en-suite locksets that were also consistent with the window and door handles. Our Primera 1-way SOS (Staff Override System) locksets were fitted on all of the en-suite rooms, offering superior safety by allowing staff to unlock the door even if the service user was to hold the turn/pull. P Plus our standard anti-ligature push/pull handles was fitted across the ward, providing consistency .

Design & Build construction of a purpose build student accommodation development to provide 1,025 bedrooms and once completed it will provide a dramatic new addition to the Birmingham skyline.The buildings comprise of two bold, angular towers with sharply defined ‘razor’ edges and a smooth, highly detailed, gloss black finish, rising 13 and 24 storeys respectively. The towers are anchored by a middle section rising to 10 storeys and finished with a traditional, matt brick with defined window reveals and texture.The building is designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and the student beds arranged principally in cluster units.Noise absorbing window ventsDucoMax SR is a self-regulating, acoustic vent (sound attenuating ventilator), specifically engineered for situations exposed to high levels of noise disturbance. The various types are attractively designed and offer excellent acoustic and airflow performance. Suited to high-rise applications, the SkyMax variant was also placed in this project. The SkyMax SR is an upgraded version of the DucoMax SR making it applicable to heights up to 70 meter. The acoustic vents ensure that the students have a carefree night's sleep in a bustling city. 

Haydn Avenue is a block of 8 purpose-built flats consisting of seven one beds, and one two beds arranged in two interlinked blocks. The front block includes six flats over three floors with two further flats to the rear block over two. This development is located within walking distance of Haydons Road station and offers regular links into central London.Cellecta’s Mojave S2-8 was specified by Papa Architects as it offers a dry and robust floor build up from one source. Mojave S2-8 is a high-performance underfloor heating system which performs at a low flow temperature. XFLO FF boards are manufactured to suit the pipe diameter and spacing required to achieve the desired thermal output.Caldera Construction was awarded this 100m² contract for this development in Wimbledon.

Pear Tree Court is a stunning care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, which offers a range of care in beautiful surroundings. This care home has the latest in luxury facilities, a café, hair salon, gardens, cinema, its own pub, and 72 en-suite bedrooms over three floors. The home is divided into smaller suites, each with its own lounge, dining room and TV lounge and every bedroom is beautifully decorated and furnished.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified due to it being an award winning 100% recycled, reinforced, non-combustible, calcium sulphate floorboard, ideal for a multitude of new build and refurbishment applications. ScreedBoard 28 was chosen in this project due to its outstanding acoustic performance, ideal for a busy care home!CastleOak Care Partnerships were awarded this 2,376m² contract to construct this care home.

The Spa facilities and rooftop bedroom suites at London’s Dorchester hotel underwent a £3.2 million refurbishment. Architecturally the design of the seven bathrooms in the three exclusive rooftop apartments needed to be crisp and contemporary, with the fixtures inspired by 1930’s and 40’s era (the Dorchester was built in 1931) - dashing, exquisite and exclusive.

Wey Hill is a three-story building accommodating eight apartments located in Haslemere in the borough of Waverley in Surrey. Demolition of the existing warehouse was authorised to build this 570m² development, consisting of two one bedroom and six two bedroom apartments, located 12 miles from Guildford.Cellecta’s Mojave S2-10 was specified by Landmark Estates for its high-performance underfloor heating system that offers a dry and robust floor build-up from one source.XFLO FF boards are manufactured to suit the pipe diameter and spacing required to achieve the desired thermal output.Vero Developments were awarded the contract to erect this development.

The Fitzalan is a high-end student accommodation building located right in the heart of Cardiff city. As well as a variety of modern bedroom accommodation ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments, the communal spaces include a cinema room, game rooms, luxury ‘snugs’ , an on-site gym, a common room and a communal kitchen.The present accommodation was created back in 2017 when a series of one- and two-storey vertical extensions were added to the existing buildings to increase the size of the accommodation to a total of 357 beds.The Fitzalan’s present owners McLaren Property, are in the process of selling the building. The new owner has requested a full upgrade of all electrical installations and fire safety measures prior to completion. As all accommodation has a fully kitted out kitchen with a combi microwave and hob, fire prevention in these areas was considered of particular importance. The buildings new owners specified that the Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard be fitted as standard in all 313 apartments and studios in addition to the existing fire suppression system.

Kimpton Fitzroy London is a Grade II listed landmark building in London’s literary neighbourhood of Bloomsbury. The hotel re-opened in Spring 2018, with interiors by renowned design firm, Tara Bernerd and Partners, that restore the historic hotel to its original grandeur.In the most distinctive and desirable rooms in the hotel, four-poster beds overlook ceramic and marble bathrooms, that offer a mix of walk-in shower stalls and roll-top baths. Schooner Wharf is the first open market scheme to be developed by Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA), who were working in partnership with main contractors Morganstone. It features 32 two, three and four bedroom affordable homes, alongside a seven storey waterside apartment building/ AluK products have been installed throughout in contemporary Anthracite grey, including fully suited 58BW and 58BD windows and doors, GT55TB commercial entrance doors and SL52 curtain walling. These all met the performance specifications laid down by the architects Austin Smith Lord and had the benefit that they could provide a coherent, fully suited look.

Leviat’s Ancon MDC Masonry Support and Ancon CombiDeck, along with Ibstock Kevington’s Nexus® Brick-Faced Units have played key roles in constructing a major student accommodation complex in the heart of Lincoln, offering overall efficiency and ease of construction.The complex is spread across ten blocks, ranging from 4 to 10 storeys in height, which have been sub-divided to reduce scale and facilitate a progressive change in character across the development. The first phase included 1,222 bedrooms in apartments, comprising six to 12 en-suite bedrooms. Students will also benefit from associated internal and external amenity space.

The ChallengeA derelict area of West Timperley, Altrincham, which had been subject to numerous acts of vandalism and had become a local eyesore, was to be demolished and replaced by 62 new, residential dwellings comprising 33 family homes – 20 three-bed, 11 four-bed and two five-bed houses – and a further 12 one-bed and 17 two-bed apartments.The SolutionForterra’s Carsington Cream brick was selected to meet the requirements of the design and to add a sense of quality and solidity to the area.The BenefitsThe new development creates a high-quality environment, which builds on the character of the surrounding neighbourhood. It has proven a welcome addition to the area and has helped to attract further investment.

UltraScape Pro-Bed HS, Pro-Prime and Flowpoint ECO are being used to help make Bradford’s City Park a world class public park. Bradford Council, in conjunction with landscape architect Gillespies and consulting engineer Arup, have specified UltraScape’s Pro-Bed HS Bedding Mortar, Pro-Prime Slurry Primer, EP-R9 Epoxy Bedding Mortar and Flowpoint ECO flowable grout – in Natural and Charcoal – for use by the main contractor Birse Civils, to lay the setts, porphyry and sandstone in and around the Mirror Pool.

Victoria House is a stone’s throw from Leed’s city centre and St. James University Hospital. Instead, now more than ever they want an accommodation that offers added comfort and includes additional facilities such as wellbeing spaces, gyms and even smart technology suites.Students are also recognising the importance of living sustainably and choosing a building that offers lower living costs and more environmentally friendly solutions, as well as having great curb appeal.So, in order to attract this new generation of students to the University of Exeter’s new East Park building, architects Stride Treglown designed the high quality student accommodation using bespoke rainscreen cladding panels from Proteus Facades as the central visual element.

Dynamic interior spaces created for flagship care homeIssue Quantum Care were launching their flagship care home, Mantles Court, and wanted an interior design that created a warm, welcoming and comfortable space. Quantum Care asked WHAT IF? Designs to create the interior spaces with a non-clinical feel, making the state of the art, 78-bed care facility feel like a home-from-home for residents. Approach WHAT IF? Designs looked at the flow of resident living spaces and the needs for each area. Communal spaces including lounges, dining and kitchen areas required floors that were easy to clean, looked fantastic and provided safety from slips. For the ensuite bathrooms, a softer, neutral coloured floor with slip resistance for both staff and residents was needed, while bedrooms called for a more homely, domestic feel, with comfort under foot as a priority. Solution Altro Wood was chosen for the dining room, bedrooms and the hair salon for its natural, homely, good looks. Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces, with their wide colour palette and lifetime sustained slip resistance, were selected for the ensuite bathrooms, providing safety for shoe and barefoot users. And in the communal areas, Altro Ensemble was chosen for its flexibility and design choices as well as its noise reduction and comfort underfoot.

Moneyfields is football club in Portsmouth which includes a new social club and sports facility Building with housing development of 26 residential units in the form of 14 one and two bedroom apartments and 12 four-bedroom houses. Redevelopment of this part single and two storey building was completed to accommodate the sports and social club with bars, function hall, kitchen, cellar, offices, changing rooms, boxing ring, gym, spectator stand, classrooms, ticket office, tea hut, car park, and a pitch with floodlights and fencing.Cellecta’s Mojave S1-8 was specified by PLC Architects due to it being a high-performance underfloor heating system, offering a dry and robust floor build up from one source.XFLO boards are manufactured to suit the pipe diameter and spacing required to achieve the desired thermal output.Chichester Building and Carpentry Ltd was awarded this 900m² contract to construct this redevelopment in Portsmouth.

The project comprised the construction of Newcastle’s tallest building, Hadrian’s Tower on behalf of The High Street Group. Following a 30-month build programme, the 26-storey luxury high-rise mixed-use development in the heart of Newcastle was handed over, with more than 60% of the apartments already sold or let at the point of handover.The development included 160 units which comprised a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments and three spacious three-bedroom penthouse suites. Hadrian’s Tower offers 134,000 sq ft of modern living space a 4,300 sq ft rooftop sky bar and coffee house on the 27th floor.The scheme has redeveloped and in turn transformed the dilapidated city centre brownfield site into a high-quality pedestrian route into the city centre.Shield Membranes supplied numerous products and systems in order to waterproof, insulate and finish all external areas.

The briefOwner Kimberley Malcolm wanted to create a practical yet luxurious feel for residents, a home from home environment which focused on quality of life for a range of care needs. Kimberley wanted to provide the residents with choices as they would have in their own homes and therefore create an interior to suit personal tastes. Skopos were asked to work on designs for the luxury apartments, public areas, such as the dining rooms and some of the bedrooms in the village.The outcomeFor the landing area the owner chose the Riviera Arles stripe for a contemporary bright effect, with Poetica Sonnet design for the curtains in the dining room for a calming, natural feel. The therapy room was adorned with blinds in the vertical stripe Avignon from the Riviera Collection, creating a contemporary upbeat atmosphere.Skopos provided Fabric from the Woodlands collection for bedrooms in the nursing home and complete fit-outs for the apartments, using a variety of fabrics from different collections within the Portfolio.

A Victorian masterpiece restored. The St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel and Residential Chambers is being hailed as one of the city's most romantic buildings. Majestic shower screens were specified for all 68 luxury apartments and penthouses in the residential chambers and the key elegant bedroom suites at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. A wide variety of Frameless models were supplied including Barcelona, Rio and Cadiz shower enclosures. As well as the high performance that you would expect from a premium product, minimal design and accurate installation were essential for this project.

Originally one of Britain’s greatest railway hotels, the Principal York Hotel has been sensitively renovated and redesigned by Goddard Littlefair in a manner that combines attention to historic architectural detail with modern design and comfort. The 155 guest bedrooms and suites are decorated in a muted soft cream palette with feature wood paneling. Designed by Utopia Projects, a specialist bathroom consultancy, the bathrooms feature polished marble surfaces with sanitary fittings from Villeroy & Boch’s Memento, Architectura and O.novo collections. The design emphasis here was on relaxation, so that guests feel at ease and uplifted.

When a Manchester blind company were tasked with fitting the blinds for the apartments in a £650 million redevelopment project in Salford, called New Bailey they had no hesitation in specifying Yewdale for the job. In the high-rise buildings, residents of luxury apartments enjoy enviable views of the city, but blinds were still needed for shade and privacy. To suit the environment, 448 YewdaleDefiant® R20 roller blinds were chosen with a 3% Roe white fabric to allow some natural light in the living rooms and blackout Medway chalk fabric in the bedrooms. Regupol studwork isolating strips helped prevent flanking sound between suites at the new Hard Days Night hotel in Liverpool.The ChallengeWhen a suitable site was finally found for Hard Days Night, the eagerly anticipated Beatles themed hotel in Liverpool, an ambitious two-year development plan was put in place to convert the historic listed building into a prestigious four star hotel.Extensive alterations to the internal area of the building created 110 guest bedrooms, which included two exclusive Lennon and McCartney suites, bars, restaurants and function rooms as well as a wedding chapel.Designed to create a unique environment with a high quality feel, it was essential that Hard Days Night lived up to the expectations of the many visitors it would welcome. Part of this meant ensuring that bedrooms were adequately soundproofed, to ensure guests were not disturbed.As with many refurbishment projects, the floor construction was timber, which left Hornport Construction, the main contractors on the project, tasked with finding a compatible acoustic treatment that would help prevent sound transfer between bedrooms.The SolutionAlthough internal wall isolation was the specified acoustic treatment, Hornport Construction was able to make the final purchasing decision as to which products would be used. After consultation with CMS Acoustic Solutions, Regupol studwork isolating strips were identified as the most cost effective solution to deliver the required acoustic performance.Manufactured from recycled polyurethane (PUR) foam, Regupol studwork isolating strips are supplied at a standard thickness of 6mm, and widths to suit specific development requirements. Sitting beneath all types of timber partitions, the studwork strips reduce structure borne noise by absorbing sound and de-coupling the connection between floor and wall constructions.Resistant to ageing and deformation, Regupol studwork isolating strips offer long-term performance and will not collapse under high point loads.Available exclusively in the UK through CMS Acoustic Solutions, Regupol studwork isolating strips are supplied with comprehensive installation guidelines, making it simple for contractors to install independently on site. Easily laid, the Regupol material is bonded straight to the subfloor, with the partition erected directly on top.The ResultAt the Hard Days Night Hotel, Regupol studwork isolating strips were used to isolate the party walls separating the corridors and bedrooms. Designed specifically for use with timber, Regupol studwork isolating strips offered the ideal solution to isolate a party wall sitting on an existing timber floor.Gerry Abraham, site manager, Hornport Construction, concludes: “The Hard Days Night is a four star hotel, so high acoustic standards were imperative. We initially looked at timber sole plates with pre-fitted isolating strips, but this was quite an expensive route. We consulted CMS Acoustics who were able to provide a cost effective and high performing alternative with the Regupol studwork isolating strip – which was just as quick and easy to use.”
