Taraflex Sport M Comfort from Gerflor was specified and their sports hall would need a total of some 600 sq m of this remarkable product. The existing old 2mm vinyl and lino floor that had been on the sports hall for some twenty years. Gerflor’s Taraflex Sport M Comfort went down over the old floor bringing it up immediately to the new European standards for shock absorption.

Previously occupied for office use, Brook House is being converted and extended to provide a 179 Bedroom Hub by Premier Inn. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council approached international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply 20m2 of their fast track GTI Attraction® for a trial area. The requirement was for a hard wearing, durable, and heavy traffic resistant flooring solution for their apartment block corridors that is easy to maintain. In addition, Dudley MBC wanted the flooring to be loose laid to keep sections of the area open and to minimise the time and cost of installation.

Sainsbury's Murrayfield is a new, busy superstore located in the heart of Edinburgh, catering for large numbers of customers and staff. For such a high traffic area, and where security is paramount, System M was specified to meet these needs and offer piece of mind. Its unique emergency release mechanism allows access within 30 seconds and a sturdy design is ideal to withstand the heavy usage. There was also the requirement for the washroom facilities to follow the corporate identity present throughout all Sainsbury's branches.

In preparation for the 2012 Olympics, where over 10,000 athletes from more than 200 countries competed in London, Zaun developed a walkway system that would enable technicians to work safely at height to install fencing as well as attach CCTV and security enhancements to the highest parts of the fencing.Project ChallengesThe project required a range of unique and innovative solutions because of the varied challenges that were in play. The system needed to adhere to strict health and safety regulations, especially as working at heights has many potential dangers, and worker safety is a huge priority. We needed to create a cost-effective solution that installers could use in various venues and areas.We also needed to ensure that this walkway system did not damage the 358 mesh. The walkway also needed to facilitate the repair and installation of Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PID) and pulse-monitored electric fencing systems and razor wire. As such, it was essential that installers could easily and safely access materials, equipment and tools.Biggest Sporting Event In The WorldAs the Olympics is one of the biggest events in the world, global attention was on London and the various venues needed to be as secure as possible. From camera operators and athletes to volunteers and security personnel, the huge number of people involved in the Olympics meant that the security team needed to be able to see as much as possible at all times. To do this, it was best to put the security monitoring equipment along the fence line to survey the whole area and reduce the requirement for additional civils for CCTV cameras. Security measures during big events like the Olympics need to be incredibly stringent. The installation of these surveillance and security measures is of utmost importance to the security of the entire event.Innovative Walkway SystemZaun designed and manufactured a unique walkway system that allowed installers to work at heights safely without damaging the mesh fencing. Our innovative system was designed specifically to support the installation and maintenance of 358 security mesh fencing, CCTV cameras and electric fencing at the top of the fence line. We created an innovative walkway solution that easily attached to 358 mesh so technicians could check and access the security measures whilst safely working at height.

Built on a self-build development site at Graven Hill in Bicester, where every property is different, this house utilises a number of different design styles and is constructed from an ICF system called Durisol Blocks. The first floor is constructed using the Lewis Deck and includes sound separation, underfloor heating and wet-rooms. It is common for the 1st floor to see a liquid screed installed over the deck, however for this project the client just ordered a little additional of the concrete being poured down the walls to complete the floors.

When Base Architects wanted to re-develop their Shrewsbury office, they turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply a mixture of their Gradus carpet products. English National Ballet and the English National Ballet School have moved to a brand new world-class home at London City Island. Designed by award-winning architects Glenn Howells Architects working together with fit-out and refurbishment experts BW, the new building provides 93,000 sq ft of unprecedented facilities. The enormous project for Harlequin Floors involved the completion of eight rehearsal studios. Harlequin Activity sprung flooring was installed with Harlequin Cascade vinyl performance surface.Completed installation of over 1900m2 of Harlequin Activity sprung floor and Harlequin Cascade vinyl surface and a further 200m2 of Harlequin Standfast vinyl performance surface in fitness and rehab facilities. Additionally, 225m2 Harlequin Liberty sprung floor panels were supplied for the Company to take on tour. Initially hired as temporary floors for the rehearsal studio space at Here East during the construction phase, these were then purchased for touring use. 

Junckers solid wood flooring has been installed at Spanish City in Whitley Bay as part of major refurbishment works. Architects ADP brought the seaside pleasure building back to its former glory by carefully restoring original decorative features in the Grade II listed building. The works included revealing the magnificent dome in the rotunda by removing a mezzanine floor, restoring the triple height ceiling to create a large, circular space. The grand room required a complimentary floor and the choice fell on Junckers’ Black Oak, which has been fitted in a striking concentric dodecagon pattern. Installed by Junckers’ Approved Contractor Stenhouse Flooring, the project features mitred joints which require a high level of skill and experience. Junckers’ solid wood flooring was also installed in several other areas in the building, which now includes bars, shops, restaurants and a suite of rooms for events, conferences and weddings. 

The world’s leading museum of art and design, the V&A Museum, appointed Consultancy Webb Yates to carry out significant design upgrade work to its ventilation systems to provide heating and cooling for the staff kitchen and back of house area. A small window provided the only access point to the installation area in the courtyard. S&P UK was selected to supply a heat recovery unit that could fit through the small access point and meet the bespoke requirements of the building

The water flows discreetly under the paving slabs, allowing it to move into the drainage pipe via a gutter in the balcony frame. This is connected to the building's drainage system or to a drainage pipe that ensures the balcony rainwater discharge is properly managed. AluOne is available ins 12 different sizes. You can choose between four different widths and three depths, each in convenient increments of 400mm.

Sherwin-Williams polyurethane floor screed FasTop TG69 provided the answer for the Morrisons bakery in Yorkshire. This large facility with a variety of activities required a long term flooring solution for a hygienic finish to withstand the daily cleaning process used in this type of food factory environment. FasTop TG69 is certified with low slip potential in wet conditions and provides an impervious finish which can with stand steam cleaning and has excellent chemical resistance. The system is HACCP certified as Food Safe and Campden BRI approved as low odour and non-taint. The perfect food factory solution.

High performance sheet flooring from Polyflor was used to create a statement design floor in The Armoury Café and Kitchen at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Designed by London based SHH Architecture & Interior Design, this refurbished restaurant area at Britain’s largest aviation museum features a monochrome floor design which was created using 300 m² of Polyflor’s Classic Mystique PUR vinyl flooring. Installed by flooring contractors Key Floors, the Smokestone, Nocturne and Quartz shades form concentric circles that echo the Royal Air Force logo.

750m2 Junckers solid hardwood flooring has been installed throughout the redeveloped The Higgins Bedford. The £5.8M project, funded in part by Bedford Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery fund, joined together three previously separate buildings into a new, fully renovated facility, which apart from the existing art gallery and museum includes space for temporary exhibitions, space for learning and activities, a café and a shop. Junckers wide board Oak Harmony floor serves as a unifying element to the interior and acts as an elegant backdrop to the collections and exhibits. Solid oak is easy to maintain and very hard-wearing, even in a high traffic area open to the public. Installed by Junckers’ Approved Contractor PICA Flooring, the floor at The Higgins is guaranteed for 25 years. 

Spitbank Fort was originally built in 1878 and was part of a group of forts designed to defend the mouth of the Solent. This project created challenging circumstances for wood flooring because the structure is metal and is over 130 years old. Surrounded by sea creating high, fluctuating humidity and the structure was round so most of the boards had to be re-manufactured to fit. There were height restrictions because there were numerous arches creating low points and all the services had to be laid on the existing substrate thus raising the finished floor level to accommodate them

The vast swathe of Gerflor products installed at GenesisCare in Windsor includes over 120sq m of Taralay Impression for the chemotherapy rooms, 1200sq m of Taralay Impression Control safety flooring for a host of public areas where slip resistance is a must, together with 200sq m of Mipolam Accord EL7 being installed in the MRI areas.

Over 800m2 of Gradus Latour2 carpet tiles have been installed in the prestigious offices at Argyle House, Edinburgh, Scotland. The overall management for the transformation of Argyle House would be the responsibility of Edinburgh-based real estate consultants Hollis. When specifying new flooring for the refurbishment programme, Hollis chose 825m2 of Latour2 carpet tiles. Designed from a floor plan service supplied by Gradus based on the client’s inspiration, the project would include Gradus Latour2 in Howden and Alston colours. Maggie Smith, Business Development Manager at Gerflor commented, “The design scheme needed to be of a neutral palette which would appeal to potentially any new tenant in the building, so we proposed a modern and contemporary grey theme and alongside this added a vibrant splash of colour around the perimeter.
