Application

Riser Safe Clamshell can be used for concrete and steel frames. Designed with a hinged floor plate to be cast into the structural frame . When the multi storey MEP modules are ready to install the floor plates are lifted into the vertical and clipped in place, the MEP modules are lowered down the shaft through the floor levels, when positioned the floor plates closed in sequence around services which are all modelled in the virtual world. Making the whole task easy and safe in the real world.

Description

Riser Safe Clamshell is a modular riser flooring system that is cast into the structural frame with Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) modules in mind, to be installed later in the construction cycle of a new development. The hinged floor plates have pre-designed penetrations with soakers and lids prefixed at the factory for complete safety on site. When the time comes to install these multi floor MEP units, the clamshell design has been harmonised with the MEP manufacturer to open to allow the lowering into position of these MEP units. The hinged floor plates are closed around the services contained in sequence to provide a safe, secure, non-combustible riser flooring to last the design life of the building.

Riser Safe soakers are installed to close off tolerance gaps to prevent materials dropping through. These allow the growing use of MEP modules to be easily installed with complete safety at the heart of the design. Allowing principal designers to avoid risk in their design and flexibility for the principal contractor.

6 mm-thick hinged durbar floor plates, shot blasted and red oxide primed (26–30 µm thick). Blank or pre-cut with MEP service penetrations.

Manufacturer guidance

Note: The main contractor is responsible for providing the riser flooring and all associated secondary support steelwork to ensure safe and accessible access to the risers, with adequate working space for maintenance and inspection.

The main contractor is also responsible for the complete design, coordination, and installation of the riser flooring systems. This includes the provision of kick plates, soaker plates, and handrails as necessary, all in compliance with best practice guidelines from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Frame

3 mm Zintec coated steel 'C' section with 3 mm backplate and bottom flange. Concrete embedment tangs welded to RiserSafe® unit at 600 mm centres. 75 x 75 x 6 mm RSA brackets.

Guidance for specification option:

Insert reference. Units larger than 1000 x 1000 mm are supplied with removable toothed joist hangers and supporting relocation beams. Beam hangers will be used to allow beams to function at right angles.

Guidance for specification option:

Fixing points can be provided for FR 30/ 60/ 90/ 120 dry-lined walls, as required.

Steel, shot blasted and red oxide primed (26–30 µm thick).

Fixings

Floor plates: Fixed with 5/16 hex head 5.5 x 38 mm tek screws.
Wall plates: Fixed with M16 RAWL HPIIZF-16140/20 throughbolt anchors U.N.O. - refer to supplier's drawings.

Guidance for specification option:

Shear wall plates set at 600 mm centres with 20 mm diameter holes for M16 (supplied as part of the system) bolted connection. Fish tangs are provided every 600 mm for embedment purposes.

Cover plates over the top of the service penetrations pre-cut in the floor plates of the RiserSafe system. The temporary hole protection is part of the unit and only removed when services are being installed.

Stencilled lettering “remove for services” (RFS) on cover plates,

Secondary support structure

100 x 60 x 5 mm RHS firewall beams welded to RiserSafe®, wrapped in fire boarding (by others).

Guidance for specification option:

The 'C’ section is removed in firewall beam locations and Durbar plate supplied to close off gap during construction.

Verification

Submittals:
Drawings of all prefabricated modular riser flooring units, in PDF and DWG formats, showing dimensions and layout, safe working load, and safety-critical installation steps, and a 3D model of the permanent maintenance modular riser flooring units.

Manufacturer guidance

Ambar Kelly provides coordinated drawings at scales suitable for review, coordination, and fabrication. Drawings are compliant with Common Data Environment (CDE) naming conventions. Ambar Kelly coordinates directly with Architectural, Structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) contractors, incorporating their RVT/IFC models.

Ambar Kelly provides an Autodesk Revit tool (templates, families, or plugins as required) for the modular riser flooring unit to the design team, enabling them to design interface details with structural elements, MEP services, and fire compartmentation requirements (both horizontal and vertical).
