Application

Permarock EPS Premium EWI systems are suitable for use above damp-proof course (DPC) level on buildings of dense or no-fines concrete, brickwork, blockwork, or suitably sheathed light steel frame or timber frame buildings, in any geographical location including those classified as having very severe exposure to wind-driven rain.

Permarock EPS Premium insulation is adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed and can be applied onto walls of dense or no-fines concrete, brickwork, blockwork, or suitably sheathed light steel frame or timber frame construction, in any geographical location including those classified as having very severe exposure to wind-driven rain.

The systems can be used on new or existing buildings in both the residential and non-residential sectors.

Permarock Mineral Fibre firebreaks should be incorporated into the system to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations.

Permarock systems are only for installation by Permarock registered installers.

Description

High-performance, lightweight external wall insulation (EWI) system based on enhanced expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation that incorporates microscopic particles of graphite for enhanced thermal performance and to dissipate heat.

Permarock Brick-effect Render (BER) is a factory-batched, two-coat, self-coloured, polymer-modified, cement-based render designed to simulate the appearance of facing brickwork. In addition, BER can also be used to create features such as soldier courses, brick quoins, etc. in combination with other Permarock decorative finishes.

Permarock BER incorporates a silicone water repellent which provides improved water resistance and helps maintain a cleaner surface. BER is particularly suited to projects where new brickwork cannot be used or where a brickwork appearance is desired.

The render can be applied to achieve metric or imperial brick sizes, any bond pattern and to create non-standard patterns and effects. Varying the surface texture of the render and incorporating special pigment powders into the render surface during application can also further diversify the desired appearance.

Features and benefits:

  • Lightweight.
  • For buildings up to 11 m in height.
  • High thermal performance insulation.
  • PAS 2035 compliant.
  • Insulation thickness 20–300 mm.
  • Low air permeability. Can assist in improving airtightness.
  • Adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed insulation.
  • High wind load resistance.
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.030 W/m·K.
  • BRE Global Certification 158/12.

Design considerations:

  • Thermal calculations can be carried out for each project to help to determine the thickness of insulation required to achieve U-value requirements.

Beads/ Trims/ Profiles:

  • A full range of beads, trims, sealing tapes, expansion joint tapes and window sealing strips (APU beads) is available to complete the design of the system.

Specification data - External wall insulation systems

Preparation

Not required.

PermaRock fungicidal wash.

Guidance for specification option:

Use to treat walls affected by algae, mould etc.

Manufacturer guidance

Consult manufacturer for details of preparation to suit project substrates.

Insulation

-

Material

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards

Guidance for specification option:

PermaRock EPS-Premium Insulation (EPS100):

  • Standard dimensions: 1200 x 600 mm.
  • Incorporates microscopic particles of graphite for enhanced thermal performance and to dissipate heat.
  • Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)/ hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) free, zero Ozone Depletion Potential (zODP) and manufactured and supplied in accordance with BS EN 13163.
  • Declared thermal conductivity (λ90/90) Lambda: 0.030 W/m·K.

Thickness:

  • If required thickness is unknown, consult manufacturer for U-value calculations.
  • Should be between 20–300 mm, in 10 mm increments.

Adhesive

PermaRock Adhesive.

Guidance for specification option:

A polymer-modified cement-based compound for bonding thermal insulation boards to new or existing concrete, masonry substrates as part of PermaRock External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.

PermaRock Lamella Adhesive.

Guidance for specification option:

A polymer-modified cement-based compound for bonding thermal insulation boards to sheathing boards, CLT, or SIP substrates, as part of PermaRock External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.

Additional mechanical fixings

PermaRock Mechanical Fixings.

Guidance for specification option:

The type, length and number of mechanical fixings (per board or per m²) required is dependent on the exposure (wind load) conditions.

In-situ pull-out tests are carried out to determine the pull-out resistance of fixings on a project-by-project basis.

Fixings should be used in combination with adhesive bonding of the insulation boards.

Consult manufacturer for recommendations.
