Application

Suited for the upgrade of existing buildings and for new buildings, particularly where exemplar levels of thermal performance are required.

Description

High-performance, lightweight external wall insulation (EWI) system based on enhanced expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation that incorporates microscopic particles of graphite for enhanced thermal performance and to dissipate heat. Permarock EPS-Premium insulation contains a flame-retardant additive (FRA) for improved fire resistance performance.

Permarock SiliconeUltra K Finish is a high-performance exterior through-colour textured render based on a hybrid binder system of organically crosslinked nano-quartz particles and silicone emulsion. It is a lightweight, water-repellent finish with excellent water vapour permeability and incorporates photo-catalytic particles which actively break down dirt particles enabling them to be washed from the surface under normal weathering. PermaRock SiliconeUltra K-Finish resists aggressive air-borne pollutants, provides enhanced resistance to dirt pick-up and contains a preservative against coating deterioration due to algae and fungus.

Features and benefits:

  • Lightweight.
  • Suitable for all buildings up to 11 m in height.
  • Suitable for all exposure conditions.
  • High thermal performance insulation.
  • PAS 2035 compliant.
  • Insulation thickness 20 - 300 mm.
  • PermaRock SiliconeUltra K-Finish is available in a range of over 500 colour shades with the highest binder stability (Class A resistance to chalking) and colour retention (Group 1 light fastness/colour stability).
  • Low air permeability. Can assist in improving airtightness.
  • Adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed insulation.
  • High wind load resistance.
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.030 W/m·K.
  • BRE Global Certification 158/12.

Design considerations:

  • Thermal calculations can be carried out for each project to help to determine the thickness of insulation required to achieve U-value requirements.
  • Permarock Mineral Fibre Insulation fire breaks should be incorporated into the system at appropriate locations.

Beads/ Trims/ Profiles:

  • A full range of beads, trims, sealing tapes, expansion joint tapes and window sealing strips (APU beads) is available to complete the design of the system.

Specification data - External wall insulation systems

Preparation

Not required.

PermaRock fungicidal wash.

Guidance for specification option:

Use to treat walls affected by algae, mould etc.

Manufacturer guidance

Consult manufacturer for details of preparation to suit project substrates.

Insulation

-

Material

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards.

Guidance for specification option:

PermaRock EPS-Premium Insulation (EPS100):

  • Standard dimensions: 1200 x 600 mm.
  • Incorporates microscopic particles of graphite for enhanced thermal performance and to dissipate heat.
  • Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)/ hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) free, zero Ozone Depletion Potential (zODP) and manufactured and supplied in accordance with BS EN 13163.
  • Declared thermal conductivity (λ90/90) Lambda: 0.030 W/m·K.

Thickness:

  • If required thickness is unknown, consult manufacturer for U-value calculations.
  • Should be between 20–300 mm, in 10 mm increments.

Adhesive

PermaRock Adhesive.

Guidance for specification option:

A polymer-modified cement-based compound for bonding thermal insulation boards to new or existing concrete, masonry substrates as part of PermaRock External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.

PermaRock Lamella Adhesive.

Guidance for specification option:

A polymer-modified cement-based compound for bonding thermal insulation boards to sheathing boards, CLT, or SIP substrates, as part of PermaRock External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.

Additional mechanical fixings

PermaRock Mechanical Fixings.

Guidance for specification option:

The type, length and number of mechanical fixings (per board or per m²) required is dependent on the exposure (wind load) conditions.

In-situ pull-out tests are carried out to determine the pull-out resistance of fixings on a project-by-project basis.

Fixings should be used in combination with adhesive bonding of the insulation boards.

Consult manufacturer for recommendations.
