Intensive lightweight subsoil.
Suitable for use as a lightweight subsoil in a rooftop garden.
A yellowish brown, dry, friable, non-calcareous sand with a single grain structure, containing frequent lightweight expanded clay aggregate particles, but free from stones, deleterious materials, unusual odours, roots, or rhizomes of pernicious weeds.
Laboratory analysis revealed the sample to be slightly acid, moderately saline, and non-calcareous, with a low organic matter content, a high saturated hydraulic conductivity, and a slightly low total porosity value. None of the potential contaminants determined exceeded their respective guideline values.
Based on these findings, the substrate was deemed suitable for use as a lightweight growing medium in a roof garden environment, provided a free-draining soil is suited to the site and the soil's physical condition is satisfactory.
It was noted that proper preparation during placement is essential to maximise aeration, and over-compaction should be avoided. The suitability of the bulk density results should be confirmed by the project engineer.
Organic Matter (LOI): <0.5% w/w.
