Bioretention soild for use within Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
Suitable for use as bioretention soil within Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
Based on both visual examination and laboratory testing, the sample is classified as a strongly alkaline, non-saline, non-calcareous, virtually stone-free sand with a single grain structure. It contains low to moderate levels of organic matter and essential plant nutrients. The grading and hydraulic conductivity fall within the desirable range for bioretention soil, ensuring effective water infiltration, attenuation, and drainage. None of the potential contaminants exceeded their respective guideline values. However, a low level of sharps contamination was detected, which may limit the soil's suitability for certain applications.
The horticultural and geotechnical properties indicate that this sample is appropriate for bioretention systems, particularly as a filter medium. However, its slightly low organic matter content may require consideration, especially for supporting tree and shrub establishment.
Organic Matter (LOI): 1.5% w/w.
Stones (2–6 mm): 1%.
