Application

Suitable for use in conversion and refurbishment projects where the separating floors are constructed using timber joists, incorporating lath and plaster ceilings.

Can be used in domestic applications including dwelling houses as well as commercial applications including offices and schools.

Description

The HD1033 acoustic system from Hush Acoustics can be used to provide sound reduction in separating floors without the need for a separate ceiling.

Fully tested and Building Regulations-compliant, this acoustic treatment system overcomes the challenge of achieving high levels of sound insulation in the separating floors of older building conversions which feature lath and plaster ceilings.

The HD1033 Hush Acoustic System LP/MF17 brings together a variety of sound insulating materials that work together to transform the acoustic properties of floors/ceilings in material change of use projects, particularly where multiple properties are being created within the same building.

Typical applications include conversion projects such as an old office or commercial building being redeveloped to form new residential, a hotel or multi-purpose accommodation. This can help to unlock the potential of older property assets by making the target acoustic performance a reality.

The key benefit of the HD1033 system is its ability to reduce the potential for airborne, impact and flanking sound transmission whilst keeping the existing floor and ceiling structure intact. Above the floor level, a Hush Panel 17 floating floor is applied over the original boards or 12 mm OSB boards which works in conjunction with the treatment on the lath and plaster ceiling below.

Here, Hush Slab 100 sound absorber slabs are installed using the Hush MF ceiling system which are finished with Soundbloc plasterboards to effectively stop sound in its path. Flanking sound – sound that transmits around the major insulating elements – is also addressed through the use of Hush Perimeter Seal around the floating floor edge.

How HD1033 is constructed:

  • Hush Panel 28 acoustic boards are installed, with all tongue and groove joints glued using Hush-Bond, over a 19 mm plasterboard plank which is laid over existing floorboards / OSB deck.
  • Seal all perimeters using Hush-seal 20.
  • Hush Mesh Firewire is then dressed down the sides of the joists and across the back of the ceiling in the form of trays.
  • Hush Slab 100 is then fitted between the joists resting on the firewire tray.

Acoustic Performance*

  • Impact (L’nT,w): 54 dB.
  • Airborne (DnT,w): 58 dB.
  • Airborne (DnT,w + Ctr): 50 dB.

* Results based on the Hush System HD1030 and a minimum of 200 mm deep joists and a full lath and plaster ceiling in good condition.

Being tested a complete system, HD1033 ensures that separating floors can meet the requirements of Approved Document E in England and Wales, Section 5 (Scotland) and Part G in Northern Ireland.
