Application

Description

The Bison Cycleway Bridge is a modular bridge system. It comprise a durable, low-maintenance hot-dip galvanized steel structure with a choice of sustainable, long-life deck materials and with the option for splayed parapet systems designed to enhance cyclist safety and comfort. The following four variants of deckboards/ parapets are available:

  • Re-Life40.
  • SureGrip-Duo European Redwood.
  • SureGrip-Duo Ekki Hardwood.
  • Perforated Steel (not available for splayed parapet systems).

All Bridge systems utilise a standard durable fit & forget hot dip galvanized steel structure certified for a 120-year design life:

  • 100% recycled steel.
  • 100% recyclable.
  • BS EN 1090 EXC3 Certified.
  • Any steels longer than 6m we can offer as a spliced kit – offering increased flexibility for movement to trickier locations.
  • Steel elements in accordance with BS EN 1995.
  • Manufactured in the UK.

All structural elements of the bridges are generally designed in accordance with the following:

  • Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB): CD 353: Design Criteria for footbridges.
  • BS EN 1990:2002+A1:2005, Eurocode. Basis of Structural Design.
  • BS EN 1991-2:2003, Eurocode 1: Actions on Structures – Part 2: Traffic Loads on Bridges.

Bison cycleway bridges can be fitted with splayed parapet systems, specifically designed to improve safety and rider confidence on mountain bike trails by:

  • Increasing effective handlebar clearance.
  • Reducing the risk of pedal or handlebar strike.
  • Improving sightlines and spatial comfort for cyclists.

ReLife 40

The ReLife 40 Cycle Bison Bridge system is a low maintenance, long life standardised modular bridge system produced from recycled plastics. It is designed to the Eurocode and DMRB standards for safe access for pedestrians, disabled users, cyclists and mountain bikers.

Features and benefits:

  • 20 year warranty.
  • 40–50 year desired service life.
  • Manufactured from a blend of 100% high quality recycled plastic residue from post industrial and commercial usages.
  • 100% recyclable at the end of its service life.
  • Bison recycling take back scheme.
  • UV resistance tested in accordance with ASTM D790.
  • Slip resistance tested (SRV & PTV to the BS 7976 standards).
  • Fire retardent (Class B2 DIN 41+02).
  • Solid composite board.
  • No maintenance: unlike timber, it won't warp, splinter, or rot and is unaffected by pests or wood boring insects.
  • Colour: dark brown (variation black).

SureGrip-Duo European Redwood

The SureGrip-Duo European Redwood Cycle Bridge system is designed as an aesthetically pleasing bridge system with a similar aesthetic to that of a traditional timber bridge.

SureGrip-Duo timber deck boards have a double strip of bauxite resin routed in each board. These strips considerably reduce the risk of injury in wet or slippery conditions.

  • 15 year desired service life.
  • UC4 treated timber.
  • Slip resistance tested (SRV & PTV to the BS 7976 standards).

SureGrip-Duo Ekki Hardwood

The SureGrip-Duo Ekki Hardwood Cycle Bridge system is designed for extreme strength and longevity. Ekki hardwood contains natural oils and tannins that make it highly resistant to decay, rot, and insect infestation.

SureGrip-Duo timber deck boards have a double strip of bauxite resin routed in each board. These strips considerably reduce the risk of injury in wet or slippery conditions.

  • Slip resistance tested (SRV & PTV to the BS 7976 standards).

Perforated steel

Perforated galvanized steel deck boards are the perfect choice for areas of high vandalism. Designed for longevity, vandal resistance and excellent anti-slip surface.

  • Perforated steel holes @ 5mm Ø designed to be dog claw proof (safe for pet use).
  • Slip resistance tested (SRV & PTV to the BS 7976 standards).

Designed and tested to the 5.0 kN/m² live loading (to a factor of 1.5) as per Eurocode standards.

The maximum deflections shown during the bedding-in test to the proposed design load of 5 kN/m² were 0.96 mm and 0.84 mm respectively for midspans 2 and 7. These recovered by 95% and 100% respectively on removal of the load.
