The Barracuda® Brick Slip System is a UL Certified, mechanically-fixed, lightweight Rainscreen Cladding solution designed to replicate high-quality traditional brickwork while providing the speed, accuracy, and assured performance required for modern construction.

Description

Barracuda® is a UL Certified, mechanically-fixed, lightweight brick slip Rainscreen Cladding system engineered to replicate the appearance of traditional hand-laid brickwork while delivering the speed, accuracy, and performance expected from a modern façade solution.

The system combines precision-formed Stainless Steel carrier rails with high-quality cut bricks to create authentic brick aesthetics across a wide range of colours, textures, and bond patterns. Designers can specify portrait, landscape, soldier-course, stacked, or mixed orientations, making Barracuda® suitable for both contemporary and heritage-inspired façades.

As a fully drained and back-ventilated Rainscreen system, Barracuda® supports effective moisture management and long-term façade durability. Installation progresses from the base of the façade upward, enabling multiple elevation zones to be installed concurrently—significantly improving site productivity and reducing programme durations. Standardised head, sill, jamb, corner, and opening details form a ready-made detailing library, ensuring consistent interfaces while still accommodating bespoke architectural requirements where needed.

Barracuda® has been CWCT-tested in an unmortared state, confirming secure mechanical engagement and reliable performance without reliance on mortar for structural stability. The non-combustible Aluminium carrier components support A1/A2 compliant façade build-ups and integrate fully with DryKlad® Aluminium and Stainless Steel Brackets for complete system compatibility.

Guidance for specification option:

Almost all brick types compliant with BS EN 771 are compatible with the Barracuda brick slip support system. Some brick types are however inherently very fragile when cut into typical brick slip thicknesses. The Barracuda brick slip support system is more tolerant of very fragile bricks because the Barracuda brick slip thickness is 40 mm. It is however important that the brick type intended for use with the Barracuda brick slip support system is confirmed by James & Taylor as being suitable for use with the Barracuda system.

Thermal break

DryKlad® Standard Isolator.

Guidance for specification option:

Polyamide 6 (PA 6) is a type of nylon, and is our standard product of thermal insulator pads. These pads provide insulation and prevent heat transfer between different elements of a building. PA 6 is known for its thermal stability, mechanical strength, and resistance to wear and abrasion. The pads are placed on the toe of the carrier console by pushing and clicking. Using a fastener (bolt, anchor, etc.) depending of the type of foundation (concrete, brick, etc.), the two elements are fastened to the construction.

DryKlad® A2 Thermal Isolator Pad.

Guidance for specification option:

The DryKlad® A2 Thermal Isolator Pad provides a non-combustible thermal break solution engineered to minimise heat transfer between façade support brackets and primary building structures. Developed for rainscreen and HRB-compliant façade systems, this isolator pad achieves A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire classification in accordance with BS EN 13501-1, offering enhanced fire safety and thermal performance. Manufactured from an A2-rated inorganic composite, the isolator pad combines low thermal conductivity, high compressive strength, and dimensional stability, maintaining long-term integrity even under high structural loads and fluctuating environmental conditions.

  • Reaction to Fire to BS EN 13501-1: A2-s1,d0.
  • Thermal Conductivity (λ) to BS EN ISO 10456: ~0.45 W/m·K.
  • Compressive Strength to BS EN ISO 604: >100 MPa.
