Anti-Corrosion Protective Coating System for the painting of steel to protect against corrosion in C5 basic atmospheric corrosivity environments as per ISO 12944.
Refer to manufacturers application guidelines.
Anti-Corrosion Protective Coating System for the painting of steel to protect against corrosion in C5 basic atmospheric corrosivity environments as per ISO 12944.
Systems are also available for C2, C3, and C4 corrosivity environments (ranging from Medium, High and Very High - specified separately).
Full system includes Primer and Topcoat.
If you require an Intumescent System, see 'Intumescent Fire Protection' and choose the system you require. If you would like specific information or advice on specifying a system for your project please contact Hempel.
Selecting the correct paint system for protection against corrosion requires a variety of factors to be taken into account to ensure that the most economical and best technical solution is achieved. For each project the most important factors to consider before selecting a protective coating are:

System performance | C5 High (LFTM: 15–25 Years). Guidance for specification option: High corrosivity category (C5) environments requiring High durability (15–25 years estimated life to first major maintenance), such as: External: Industrial areas of high humidity and aggressive atmosphere and inshore areas of high salinity. Internal: Buildings and areas of almost constant condensation and high contamination. Hempadur Speed-Dry ZP600: A self-priming, two-component high build epoxy paint containing zinc phosphate. (*An alternative Primer can be used Hempaprime Multi 500 @ 200microns). Hempathane HS 55610: This type of polyurethane has a high resistance to chemical leaks and spills. VOC compliant, with good gloss and colour retention. It is recommended as a topcoat for anticorrosive protection for industrial structures such as refineries, cellulosic plants, mines, exterior of storage tanks as well as in ports and ships. |
Preparation | Guidance for specification option: Blast clean to the cleanliness preparation grade Sa2½ according to ISO 8501-1: 2007 or as per the Product Data Sheet of the primer to be applied. Both metallic and non-metallic abrasives can be used. Grit is recommended. Remove any remaining dust before applying the paint. Surface preparation for most common substrates Carbon Steel, including cast iron and Corten steel Remove oil and grease by fresh water washing with a suitable detergent followed by fresh water rinsing to remove remaining salts and other contamination. Solvent cleaning may also be applied for small areas. All surfaces to be prepared in accordance with the coating manufacturer's written instructions. Consult manufacturer's literature for details or visit the website: www.hempel.com |
Initial coats | Hempadur Speed-Dry ZP 600. Guidance for specification option: A self-priming, two-component high build epoxy paint containing zinc phosphate. Manufacturer guidance(Primer) |
Finishing coats | Hempathane 55610 (Glossy). Guidance for specification option: A one coat Polyurethane topcoat cured with aliphatic isocyanate. It has a high volume solids and contains zinc phosphate making it suitable for protection of structures in corrosive environments. It can be applied direct to metal. VOC compliant two-component topcoat, with good gloss and colour retention. |
Sealing of internal movement joints | Guidance for specification option: Insert requirements or omit. |
External pointing to existing frames | Guidance for specification option: Insert requirements or omit. |
Additional coatings to surfaces that will be concealed when component is fixed in place | Manufacturer guidanceInsert requirements or omit. |
Estimated life to first major maintenance | 15–25 years. |
