Description

Promat VERMICULUX®-S is a non-combustible calcium silicate board reinforced with selected fibres and fillers, is resistant to the effects of moisture and will not be subject to physical or performance deterioration when used in damp or humid conditions. The strong rigid board can be installed before the building is watertight. It is classified A1 non-combustible according to BS EN 13501-1. Promat VERMICULUX®-S is off-white in colour and has a smooth sanded surface on one face with a lightly honeycombed texture on the reverse face.


Up to 240 minutes fire resistance can be achieved depending on the thickness of material used, the dimensions of the steelwork being protected, the number of layers used and the limiting temperature of the steel section.

Etex Building Performance Limited warrants that our passive fire protection products and component parts, when installed in the building originally designed, built and unaltered in accordance with the conditions and procedures set out in Promat Passive Fire Protection Handbook, this specification document and associated CAD drawings; and any specific technical recommendations made in relation to the above project, shall be durable and free from defects due to faulty manufacturing or factory workmanship. The system must be installed by a 3rd party accredited fire protection contractor, and where included in the specification, solely with proprietary products and components as supplied by Etex Building Performance Limited. The scope of this warranty will be dependent on the application and the environment in which the products are being installed.

Support

30 x 52 x 30 x 0.5 mm steel U-Track and 36 x 50 x 34 x 0.5 mm steel C-Studs. 3.7 x 16 mm Shot-fire nails or M4.2 x 12 mm self-drilling self-tapping wafer head screws.

Guidance for specification option:

Casings are installed using a metal frame consisting of U-Track channels fixed to the underside of the top flanges and the upper side of the bottom flange of the steel beam. Vertical steel channels are fitted into the horizontal channels.

Manufacturer guidance

For beam widths over 325 mm, use minimum 25 x 25 x 25 x 0.65 mm Z-sections to support soffit boards, fixed with 3.7 x 16 mm Shot-fire nails or M4.2 x 13 mm self-drilling self-tapping wafer head screws.

Insulation

Low density (10–30 kg/m³) glass mineral wool.

Linings

Inner and outer layers: Promat VERMICULUX®-S board thickness determined by section factor (A/V), fire resistance period and limiting steel temperature. Maximum board length 1200 mm.

Guidance for specification option:

Minimum Promat VERMICULUX®-S thickness for compartmentation on both sides of steel: 60 minutes: 20 mm, 90 minutes:  25 mm, 120 minutes:  30 mm, 180 minutes:  40 mm, 240 minutes:  50 mm. Where protection to the structural steel and compartmentation are required, thicker of the two boards should be used. Insert requirements.

Manufacturer guidance

For double layer encasements the thicker board should be applied as the inner layer and joints between layers must be staggered by minimum 600 mm.


Boards can be left untreated or painted. Board thicknesses over 40 mm are installed as a double layer.

Fixing to Metal Track and Stud: Minimum M3.5 CSK Self Tapping Screws.
Fixing to Board Edge: Minimum M3.5 High Thread Screws.
Fixing to Coverstrips: Minimum M3.5 High Thread Screws.

Guidance for specification option:

Designed to seal any slight gaps at interfaces between the boards and the substrate, which have low movement requirements (±7.5%). Contains no solvents or halogen compounds.

Fixing to substrate: For SHS/RHS/CHS and PFC beams, where it is not possible to fix to the underside of the flange, metal angle is fixed directly to the concrete soffit with Minimum M4 screws into metal plugs, non-combustible concrete anchors or concrete screws (by others).

Coverstrips: 20 mm thick x 120 mm wide Promat VERMICULUX®-S coverstrips fitted behind all board joints.
