From the fully enclosed viewing pod, visitors experience 360-degree views across Brighton, the South Downs and the English Channel.British Airways i360 was designed, engineered and manufactured by the team responsible for the London Eye, with the attraction costing £46 million.Project details:Townscape Products were called in to supply Hostile Vehicle Mitigation for one of Brighton‚ largest tourist attractions. We were asked to design and manufacture Counter Terror Blocks, which were in-keeping with the modern surroundings and architecture.

Coventry Station UpgradeStreet furniture | Railway seatingPlatform seatingLocation: CoventryCoventry Rail Station introduced some Townscape CT Block Seats as part of a multi million £ upgrade.The new railway station building and multi-storey car park is open, buses can now use the interchange on Warwick Road which is accessed via a tunnel under Warwick Road.As the existing railway station is Grade II listed, which means there is limited scope for creating additional capacity within the existing station building, the Coventry Station Masterplan project was developed to deliver new infrastructure to meet current and projected future passenger growth. Using funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal, £82million was used to improve accessibility and capacity.The new station building will house up to five retail units and has passenger facilities including new waiting rooms, toilets and ticket machines. The new multi-storey car park has been constructed above the new station building with integrated lift access from the car park to station level. The upgraded facilities include Townscape CT Block Seats with Hardwood Deck Seat Tops to provide additional seating to the busy Rail/Bus/Taxi interchange. The Contractor was Buckingham Group.

Funky Blocks Thomas Street ManchesterStreet Furniture | VAD | Counter Terror BlocksLocation: ManchesterTownscapes CT blocks have been given a cool ‘funky’ makeover in Manchester.The Thomas Street Manchester scheme used a local street artist to design and implement the designs.Part of the wider safe routes for cycling scheme the blocks provide additional security whilst fully fitting in with the Thomas Street vibe.

HVM – landscaping with CT Block SeatsStreet furniture | landscape seatingCT Block RangeLocation: Todd Street, Manchester.Manchester CC has undertaken an improvement to the resilience of Todd street through the implementation of HVM measures to help protect the widely used public space at Cathedral Gardens.The aim of the improvements is to create a distinct and protected space for the public to use and linger beside the Todd street water features. The sympathetic use of Townscape’s CT Block in both a Dark Grey and Sandstone Red has helped to create a sense of tranquillity and focus. Townscape’s involvement in the project, has meant that the space has now been transformed into a practical yet engaging domain for staff, the local community, and visitors alike.The main contractor was Rosgal. The architects for the scheme were Manchester City Council

HVM – landscaping with CT Block SeatsStreet furniture | landscape seatingCT Block RangeLocation: Stratford, E15As part of the UCL East Campus Masterplan, 79 of Townscape’s Counter Terror Block Seating was used to landscape a large public realm directly outside of the main entrance to the UCL East Campus on Pool Street, Stratford.The aim of the developments at UCL east is to create a distinct and unique campus that provides an environment fit for learning and socialisation. Townscape’s involvement in the process, particularly Phase 1, has meant that the space has now been transformed into a practical yet engaging domain for students, staff, the local community, and visitors alike.The main contractor was Mace, and the sub-contractor was Maylim. The architects for the scheme were Ove Arup.

Kettering and Wellingborough Rail SeatingStreet furniture | Railway seatingPlatform seatingLocation: Kettering and WellingboroughKettering and Wellingborough Train stations (network Rail) replaced some of their standard seating with enhanced PRM (Person of Reduced Mobility) seats to the platform areas.The Townscape Voltan Multi Single Seats in a four-seat configuration provide the ‘4th’ seat slightly raised and with armrests to assist people with reduced mobility. The contractor at Kettering was Amey and at Wellingborough was Walker Construction.

Luton Dart LandscapingStreet furniture | landscape seatingUnity RangeLocation: LutonLuton DART Station in Bartlett Square has been upgraded as part of the ‘Luton Rising’ project and now features Townscape’s Unity range of precast concrete benches with inset timber tops along with fully clad Unity litter bins.This commercial development off Kimpton Road, next to Luton Airport Parkway station is set in a partially landscaped garden. Our seating provides a place for the public to dwell and reflect. The Architects were Capita the constructors were Ryebridge Construction.The project strives to provide pedestrian access across Bartlett Square to the Luton DART Parkway station from Kimpton Road, along with a small area of public realm. Townscape’s involvement has assisted in creating a new and high-quality public realm that is practical and links the rail station with local businesses and residents.

Middlesborough CouncilPAS 68 Counter Terror plantersStreet furniture | Street PlantersConcrete bollards | HVMTownscape has successfully tendered to Middlesbrough Council for the supply of PAS 68 Counter Terror planters.Thirty-two Toledo PAS 68 Planters and one hundred and six PAS 68 bollards have been supplied to create strong and robust hostile vehicle mitigation around the Town Hall and Central Square area of the city.The new line of defence is not in response to any specific threat. Centre Square is one of the region’s biggest open civic spaces and the new security measure mirrors those seen in town and city centres across the country in recent years following attacks on domestic soil and abroad.Cllr Dennis McCabe, the executive member for environment, said Centre Square played host to many public events attracting large audiences.He added:“In common with public spaces up and down the country, security arrangements remain under constant review in the wake of high-profile incidents both at home and abroad.“The CT planters will ensure that unwanted vehicles are unable to enter Centre Square, to protect those attending events or simply enjoying a stroll in the open air.”The hardwearing steel, timber, and concrete planters were chosen for their high quality and durable finish.For more details of how we can help with your PAS68 Counter Terror requirements, please get in touch.

Townscape’s bespoke street furniture seating and planters fully meet the architectural aspirations of the specifier PLP. The iroko timber was specifically chosen as untreated to slowly age to a uniform grey.The prestige white smooth finish of the street furniture is designed to have timeless appeal. All the street planters are hand cast using artisan precast concrete techniques refined over Townscapes 47-year history. The constructor was Maylim.

St Peters Street landscapingStreet furniture | landscape seatingUnity RangeLocation: IpswichSt Peters street in Ipswich has recently been landscaped as part of the latest phase of the ‘Greener Ipswich Project.’ This renovation has aided the kickstart of green spaces across the town as well as helping to create a lively atmosphere for the public.A range of concrete seating and planters were installed here beside the bronze statue of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, which is situated in Ipswich town centre, Suffolk. The Townscape Unity range is designed to enhance and transform any urban space while maintaining functionality. The seating and planters are robust yet easy to move if or when necessary. The products used here were the Unity 1250 seat with deck top and the Unity 1250 planter in a Yorkstone buff finish.The landscaping upgrade was prepared as part of the Towns preparation for The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The main theme is based on the idea of Tudor plants, particularly those with medicinal properties. Tudor gardens were designed to provide food, medicine, and a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The herbs that have been planted near the Wolsey statue are some of the medieval healing herbs thought to have beneficial properties for the lungs, heart, digestion, and headache.

Unity Square, NottinghamPAS68 seating and plantersStreet furniture | Street Planters | HVMTownscape Products has recently completed the hard landscaping for the Unity Square scheme in Nottingham.Unity Square forms a major part of Nottingham’s southern gateway regeneration project, which includes work to create a new-look Intu Broadmarsh centre, central library, bus station and car park.The hub was forward funded by LGIM Real Assets (Legal & General) and will accommodate HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC) new regional centre. The building now comprises of ten storeys and is due to open in late 2021. As the cornerstone of the redevelopment work taking shape across the city’s Southside, Unity Square will truly put Nottingham on the map once complete.”The site will eventually house up to 4,000 HMRC employees.
