elZinc Slate Advance - Coast Bournemouth

This group of seafront apartments on the site of the former Bournemouth International Hotel is perched right on the cliff side. The modern aesthetic of white render and glazed balconies is offset with crisp elZinc zinc cladding supplied by SIG Zinc & Copper and installed by the specialist cladding team at ICEE. The project for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties was designed post-planning and managed on site by architects WADP.
elZinc Slate Rhomboid Shingles - Vita Student Newcastle

This is Vita Student Newcastle, a new development of 259 high quality student accommodation studios on Westgate Road in Newcastle town centre. Architects and interior designers Fuse worked with Historic England and the city’s planning and design officers to develop a façade that is unashamedly contemporary, but has a timeless quality the client required, complementing the neighbouring buildings without imitating them.
FDT Rhenofol CG - The Warrens Medical Centre

A Rhenofol CG sedum green roof helped secure a silver Green Apple sustainability award for a West Wirral healthcare development, which also won the LRSA Design Award 2012. Built on greenbelt , the Warren Medical Centre was designed by BRP architects of Market Harborough. SIG Design & Technology designed and supplied the roof build up.

Hydrostop AH-25 Liquid Roofing - Sacred Heart Primary School

Hydrostop AH-25 product was chosen to refurbish 450m2 of roof at the Sacred Heart Primary School in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow. Areas of the roof had been leaking, leading to considerable water damage and disruption to some classrooms. The priority for the roof works was to procure a waterproofing system with minimal hot works that would cause as little disruption to the school’s everyday activities as possible.

When a Vue Cinema on the outskirts of Doncaster needed a section of the asphalt flat roof refurbished as part of extension and maintenance works, a zero odour solution was required that would allow the building to stay open to the public throughout installation. A liquid waterproofing product was considered ideal to avoid the need for complex edge detailing associated with single ply or bitumen products around the plant.

Rising up from its Thames-side site at Pimlico at the meeting of Millbank and Vauxhall Bridge, River Walk is an elegant new development of 116 high specification apartments with 170 crescent-shaped balconies, all of which need to be carefully waterproofed. Specialist roofing contractor Knight Asphalte Co Ltd is carrying out this task, using Hydrostop AH-25 liquid waterproofing.

In less than four months, SIG Design & Technology, IKO Polymeric and FK Group have completed a 48,000m2 roofing project for one of the biggest online grocery centres in the world. An incredibly tight programme minimised material waste and time on site, thanks to a number of innovations developed specifically for the project by the three businesses working collaboratively.
IKO Armourplan - Flat roof on a new modernist house in West Sussex

Features in 2015 on Grand Designs was an enormous modern house inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s German Pavilion in Barcelona. This house adds to this oeuvre on a massive scale, reflecting the footprint in two connected pavilion buildings spanning 60 metres, with a swimming pool in place of the reflective pool.
With single storey modernist buildings of this type the largest surface is the one that is not seen – the flat roof. In the case of Pavello the roof is a full 600m2 of Armourplan P with a bespoke fabricated edge detail.

As competition for schools construction projects remains high and costs are driven down, the need to meet standards of robustness, energy efficiency and acoustic performance become more challenging. At a school for girls, four roofs totalling over 2000m2 required two different finishes, three different build- ups and, crucially, one single Labour and Materials Warrantee to cover all four under our PI Insurance.

IKO Armourplan - Waveform roof structure blends with High Peak’s rolling scenery

Armourplan PVC and Recticel Insulation by SIG Design Technology were selected for a 12,000 m2 roof to a bottling plant in a rural location on the outskirts of an historical Derbyshire spa town, known as Project Merlin. The FMCG company chose to build the new facility away from the site of the natural spring, piping the water some two miles out of town to this green field bottling and distribution site.

The £14m Arnold Hill Academy is part of the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP) and is being constructed adjacent to the existing school in Nottingham. The new Academy’s 3,570m2 flat roof covers 8,200m2 of replacement teaching space, science labs, an indoor sports hall and a drama studio.
The project team at Wates Group had already identified potential roofing products. Due to the unconventional roof specification they asked SIG Design & Technology to recommend a product that would work in tandem to deliver the required performances.

IKO Permaphalt - Act of Faith

When Westminster Cathedral’s roof was first asphalted back in 1903, it would have utilised naturally occurring asphalt deposits dug up from an overseas lake.
These days, things are done a little differently. Instead, IKO’s Permaphalt – a polymer modified mastic asphalt – was specified for the extensive reroofing of the Cathedral by Architect, Michael Drury from St Ann’s Gate Architects.
“Asphalt had worked well for the Cathedral in the past and there was no reason why it shouldn’t again,” he said, adding the new roofing’s 25 year guarantee clinched the decision for a like-for-like replacement.

When Make Architects needed a waterproofing solution for their latest project in the City of London they turned to IKO PermaTEC hot melt. Waterproofing such an expansive and complex roof has its particular challenges and required robust and reliable detailing. SIG Design & Technology and SIG Insulation are working with the Interserve Kajima consortium on a batch of seven secondary school projects to deliver a value-engineered, robust roofing solution. At Stopsley High School there are two roofs installed by Briggs Amasco in an approximate 16 week programme. The largest roof measures some 2500m2 and the inverted roof build up selected and supplied by SIG comprises IKO’s PermaTEC hot melt waterproofing system.

Spectraplan has provided an innovative roofing solution for a major refurbishment to the newly named, Jack Jones House in Liverpool. Designed and built in the 1970’s, Jack Jones House (formerly Transport House) has been totally refurbished and renamed for Unite, the trade union. Jack Jones was the former leader of the TGWU, the Transport and General Workers’ Union.

stunning new ‘brown roof’ is the crowning glory for a private dwelling overlooking the River Tweed. The project has been designed to last 100 years and takes into account the requirements of future generations of the family.
The house is the first to be constructed in the UK with zero heating requirements using the mass timber Brettstapel technique. Passive technologies such as orientation for daylight and solar gain, super insulation and air-tightness levels have been utilised in order to achieve the internationally recognised Passivhaus standard.

Sandbanks Court apartments are situated within the expensive up-market area of the Dorset coastal peninsular and enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the sea.
A green roof system was selected for this project as the client required a roof that would complement and accommodate the step in levels to follow timber decking lines to the 55m² roof terrace areas. IKO Single Ply’s Spectraplan SM120 light grey single ply waterproofing system was overlaid to the existing roof and newly built sun rooms, ready to receive a green roof system.

Supplied by SIG Design and Technology, 10,200m2 of IKO’s Spectraplan single ply membrane was specified for its ability to contribute to a BREEAM Very Good rating for the project which is in line with Waitrose’s mission to ‘tread lightly on the environment’.
KME Tecu Patina - The Grove Hotel

Rhenofol CGV PVC single ply membrane from FDT was selected to waterproof the viewing terraces to one of Britain’s most hallowed sporting venues, The KIA Oval, London. Surrey County Cricket Club wished to upgrade its facilities and the old Vauxhall Road stand was demolished in 2005. It was replaced with a prestigious multi-tiered new build facility to include seating, hospitality areas, conferencing facilities and media suites.

When it came to replacing the stolen copper, the council thought long and hard about its options for a facility that was never going to have a 24-hour security presence while respecting visitors’ sensitivities. To meet both demands, the council opted for Rhepanol fk roofing membrane finished with its copper roof paint, which patinated in a matter of weeks to its characteristic green oxidised form.
