Resin flooring systems from Sherwin-Williams for food and drink manufacturing areas are seamless, strong, slip-resistant and safe for pedestrian traffic. Textured products including FasTop TG69 are independently tested as having low slip potential when tested with the TRRL Pendulum method promoted by the Health & Safety Executive.In order to reduce the impact on daily operations and allow food production to continue, FasTop TG69 is low odour and can be installed as quickly as possible in line with fast-track programmes to avoid disrupting manufacturing procedures as much as possible.This flooring system can withstand high temperatures, thermal exposure to reflective heat from ovens, as well as heavy impact, heavy machinery and equipment, and a high volume of footfall. It can also resist particularly harmful chemicals used as part of the Clean-In-Place CIP process such as caustic soda, nitric and phosphoric acid.

Sherwin-Williams polyurethane floor coating Resutile provided a bright solution for this large museum area full of famous aircraft which have been part of aviation history. Lots of natural light came into this area so any coating chosen had to be UV stable to avoid discolouration over time which would spoil the aesthetic appearance. Resutile has great chemical reistance and is fully light resistant. The product has been used in Aircraft hangars around the world for twenty five years to create and enhance bright modern environments.

Cemcrete TX manufactured by Sherwin-Williams provides great external protection against the elements for the Norwegian Wassiliof Hotel in Stavern.

Wensleydale Cheese has been made in Wensleydale, Yorkshire since 1150 when monks settles and lived at monestary at Forsnear Hawes. Today cheese is till handcrafted with the original recipe at the two Wensleydale Creamery sites using milk from local cows.Wensleydale Creamery required floor finishes throughout production floors which would be hygienic and very durable to provide a long term solution. Excellent chemical resistance was required against regular spillages from dairy produce such as whey.Dairy production procedures mean that floors are subjected to heavy duty use and impact from fork lift trucks and storage equipment.SystemThe system chose was FasTop TG69 polyurethane floor screed which has been applied throughout the two creamery sites. The system provides a completely seamless finish which is ant-slip even in wet conditions and which can be cleaned to the exacting conditions required in a modern food factory.Coved skirting has been formed around perimeters of all production and storage areas to create a 'tanked' finish which can be cleaned with hot water processes such as steam cleaning. The product has been tested and certified by Campden BRI as a non-taint product and is certified by HACCP as a food grade material.

A new flooring finish was required for the atrium in the Radclyffe School in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Because the atrium floods this area of the school with so much light through a Perspex roof, it meant that whatever was chosen had to be UV stable, hard wearing and safe. The system also had to be economic, hard-wearing, easily cleaned, have low odour during application and chemical resistance, slip resistance and non-dusting. Sherwin-Williams’ technical flooring experts looked at their diverse range of Resuflake options for this specific application covering 800 sq metres.

  ​​​​​​​The FasTop RS69 polyurethane cement system was used for this ongoing Bangladesh food production plant project to deliver a heavy duty hygienic floor. Sherwin-Williams FasTop Multi RS69 product used in this system delivered a thickness of 6 mm overall and 9 mm in selected areas under machines where the floor would be subjected to boiling water. The initial area totalled 3500 sqm, and then further areas were done as the applicator worked through the factory. The project was the first time Quality Floors Bangladesh Ltd. team had taken advantage of the FasTop technology which featured extreme application conditions, including temperatures of 34-36oC, day and night, and also air humidity up to 100%.

Sherwin-Williams FasTop polyurethane floor screed range is used mainly in the food industry but because its so tough as a long term solution it used throughout industry where heavy duty use demands the most durable flooring solution.Not only do floors in rail maintenance areas and train stations need to withstand heavy footfall traffic, they also need to be non-slip in all weathers, and conform to strict fire regulation and legislation. Our anti-slip, seamless systems are chemical and impact resistant, as well as being cleanable. For this large area in Moscow FasTop TG69 met all the requirements.

Where aesthetic appearance is of the utmost importance and oil spillages need to be wiped quickly the smooth finish provided with the Sherwins range of systems provides a first class seamless appearance. For very heavy duty finishes required in environments such as washing and valet areas where aggressive cleaning is in daily operation the Fastop range of systems provide proven solutions which can withstand steam cleaning and constant wet traffic.

As part of the iconic Manchester Central Library's three-year overhaul to make its facilities more accessible, a bespoke flooring solution was supplied of Resuflor Terrazzo and Resuflor Screed to complete this refurbishment and give the buidling a great new appeal. The terrazzo provided a super smooth decorative floor and the epoxy screed incorporated fine aggregate on the surface to the stairs and ramped areas of the building to promote an anti-slip finish.The multi-million pound refurbishment project saw public entrances of the Grade ll listed building restored to their 1930's appearance. New staircases and lift shafts were inserted to improve access throughout the building.The brief on this project was to provide a modern functional flooring solution that complemented the library's unique neo-classical style.The besposke design of Resuflor Terrazzo was supplied in a special colour pallet to complement the neo-classical design features of the library. The system was chosen because of its seamless properties, ensuring a flat, continuous floor surface with extreme durability for a long term solution.The product was also used as a pre-cast terrazzo system on some central stair areas of the library.Resuflor Screed was supplied and applied on the ramped areas as a semi-decorative finish with a special aggregate bead incorporated for improved slip resistance.The end result was a functional floor capable of withstanding heavy footfall that fitted with the aesthetic requirements of the overall design superbly.

FasTop resin flooring was chosen as it provided long term flooring solutions which would be seamless and have the hygienic standards required for this industry and the colours required could be provided . The flooring products supplied by Sherwin-Williams had the necessary fast cure performance with the alternative textures to provide a variety of finishes from smooth easy clean surfaces to heavy duty more textured areas where more non-slip texture was required which would be resilient to aggressive cleaning processes. ART and Sherwin-Williams were able to provie self-smoothing smooth finishes and trowel applied textured finishes.

Sherwn-Williams demonstrated what technical assistance can be provided on projects before any quotations or specifications are organised. A low viscosity primer Resutop Binder was recommended as a penetrating primer to case harden and consolidate the screed. Epoxy screed repairs were installed where required to make good any damaged areas. Once a sound substrate was established Resuprime MVT moisture tolerant primer was installed incorporating a fabric mesh over all joints and pitted areas to reduce any potential cracking of this substrate, followed by 9mm thick FasTop RS69 polyurtehane screed.

​​This project at Manchester Airport has now been completed by Monarch Resin Floors. The previous floor was a twenty year old tile and resin cementitious screed which was decaying and water damaged. Due to the level of decay and disrepair, the floor was dug out by a third party and re-concreted ready for the resin. Monarch installed 9mm thick FasTop TG69  polyurethane screed in 3 different colours to help the fire engines to see the tyre lines when they were reversing. White line marking was also installed.The total area was about 600m2 and included six bays and six fire tenders.

Sherwin-Williams polyurethane floor screed FasTop TG69 provided the answer for the Morrisons bakery in Yorkshire. This large facility with a variety of activities required a long term flooring solution for a hygienic finish to withstand the daily cleaning process used in this type of food factory environment. FasTop TG69 is certified with low slip potential in wet conditions and provides an impervious finish which can with stand steam cleaning and has excellent chemical resistance. The system is HACCP certified as Food Safe and Campden BRI approved as low odour and non-taint. The perfect food factory solution.

Designers and specialist flooring contractors were tasked with specifying a system for this facility to provide a long term decorative flooring solution. Challenges on the project included the existing substrate requiring to be levelled as it was out of specification and no longer suitable for the intended pharmaceutical production processes. It was recommended that initially a pumped industrial sub base be applied prior to the surface finishes. A protein free flowable cementitous compound was used to level existing concrete substrates or make up to required levels and create a suitable profile. Typically laid from 7 - 50mm in one application, this provides a fast and economic way of refurbishing and levelling substrates.Once the surface had be regulated using the sub screed the surface was mechanically prepared by diamond grinding to provide a mechanical key, the surface was then primed using Resuprime MVT, which is a moisture tolerant liquid damp proof membrane.After priming the substrate with Resuprime MVT the main screed product Resuflor Q Screed was applied by a steel float and trowel at 5mm. Coloured quartz granules which are bound in a clear epoxy resin provide an aesthetically pleasing and decorative finish whilst providing high levels or durability and impact resistance.Hygienic coving was also required for this project. One of the benefits of Resuflor Q Screed is that it can be applied to form in situ coving detail which is seamless from floor to wall. This would enable the areas to be sterilised and easy to clean and ensure the high levels of cleanliness and hygiene required in this type of facility can be achieved.Once the Resuflor Q Screed is installed the surface is then grouted using Resuprime GC clear resin sealer. Finally a coat of Resupen WB Matt Clear was applied to give a contemporary matt finish. Resupen WB Matt also enhances the level of scratch and abrasion resistance to ensure that the system keeps attractive for longer.Resuflor Q Screed was applied to the main production areas, testing and laboratory facility and all the connecting corridor areas.The result was a hygienic and decorative surface installed with superb detail, enhancing the performance and aesthetics of this facility.

The challenge of installing one of the largest expanses of flooring in a single project – and one of the most complex – faced the hub where east meets west at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. The airport is described as ‘the gateway to Qatar’ and the hub for its world-class airline Qatar Airways with the capacity to serve 8,700 passengers per hour and 30 million every year. Specifiers wanted a flooring high in aesthetic and environmental credentials to meet all requirements at this important airport zone and meeting all relevant environmental and health and safety regulations.  SystemThe system chosen was epoxy terrazzo flooring supplied by Sherwin-Williams - 140,000 sq metres of pigmented epoxy resin - involving the shipping of pre-mixed marble aggregates from Italy to complete the design for the main floor areas consisting of three colours, primarily dark grey with pure black or white epoxy terrazzo.The epoxy terrazzo was poured in situ as the 16,000 workers from various countries navigated their way around the 5,500-acre site and ground and polished the flooring to a high finish, bringing with it major environmental benefits. Thin set epoxy conforms to the EU’s solvents and Volatile Organic Compounds Emissions Directive.The installation process itself also meant there was very little waste – the terrazzo prepared for installation was measured accurately to allow as much or as little to be used in application.The epoxy terrazzo is high in aesthetic and environmental features and meets the demands of architects and specifiers for longer-lasting products with ever-greater green credentials.Terrazzo flooring is a composite – a mix of resin with aggregates which give the product such variety in its design. Intended to be a durable, hard-wearing and highly decorative flooring solution, the resinWith simple re-polishing or re-sealing using water-based products a typical terrazzo flooring can last up to 40 years. Sherwin-Williams manufacture Resubind CP, a polyurethane system used for walkways, patios, courtyards, ramps, car parks and loading bays and public concourses. Resubind CP is usually installed at about 5mms thickness. Stone and resin bound paving Resubind CP uses the latest polyurethane chemistry to combine resins and aggregates for heavy duty walkways, and delivers a modern seamless surface for external environments such as wide-open public spaces, park walkways and driveways. Using natural aggregates for durability and great aesthetics Resubind CP can transform tired looking external areas or be incorporated into new build projects for a great modern look.

The flooring requirement at this museum in Leicester stipulated a safe and cleanable seamless finish to exhibit the discovery of Richard III's remains and the story behind the Battle of Bosworth. A simple black finish was specified in keeping with the design of this facility. The exhibition takes visitors through the history of the Wars of The Roses and then fast forwards 500 years to a Leicester car park where a discovery was made. Resuflor self smoother was installed at 3mm thickness across the floors and this was sealed Resupen WB Satin Black to give the desired sheen finish.

A straightforward hardwearing concrete seal was required at the entrance which would withstand heavy footfall and provide a safe finish. Resuseal WB Clear is a water-based epoxy applied at around 40 microns per coat. This is formulated to penetrate and case harden a concrete surface giving it a much harder wearing surface which is less likely to crumble or degrade. As a clear coat the finish is a semi industrial type look which is often used in retail outlets and commercial buildings. This product is used throughout industry where the principal requirement is to dustproof a surface.

FasTop SL45 self smoothing polyurethane resin was used as a 5mm thick seamless floor finish for this large hospital kitchen in Sydney, Australia. This facility is extremely busy producing over 2 thousand meal a day which have to be moved around the hospital quickly on special trolleys. This type of traffic meant the flooring had to be able to withstand regular wheeled traffic and footfall and be safe and cleanable within a hospital environment.

A rapid solution was required for Billingsgate Market - the UK's largest inland fish market - that was fit for purpose, exceptionally durable and would not disrupt daily operations. The project involved supplying Sherwin-Williams FasTop TG69 flooring to the 13 acre ground floor of the self-contained market complex, which comprises of 98 stands and 30 shops. The solution had to be food-safe with outstanding wearing properties. A decade after it was installed , the flooring has stood the test of time and is a testament to why FasTop is widely used in the food and drinks sector.

Resucoat HB the high-build epoxy resin manufactured by Sherwin-Williams is over around 12000 square metres of concourse floor area. For this project with heavy and intense footfall it was essential to have a hard wearing coating with a degree of texture for non-slip performance which also would be cleanable to provide a great looking floor for this high profile facility. A special very hard aggregate is incorporated into the coating which is the same product used for non-slip texture on areas such as the decks of United States aircraft carriers.

The Silverstone Experience is a new technology driven and interactive visitor attraction opened in the summer of 2019 celebrating the exciting past, present and future of Silverstone and British motor sport.Fuelled by the most comprehensive and accessible collection of British motor sport records, the visitor can delve deep into the history of both Silverstone and British motor racing through an immersive state-of-the-art visitor journey.The system specified was Resuflor Topcoat which uses the Resuflor HB high build epoxy resin product incorporating an aggregate scatter used to create a hard wearing anti-slip finish which could be cleaned and also provide a safe surface for busy footfall. Resuflor Topcoat is regularly specified in automotive type workshops.

Project/location Aula Magna Università Torino –University of Turin in North West Italy is one of the oldest Universities in Europe but continues to play an important role in research and training, ranking 3rd in Italy for Universities covering these activities. This new build project in a lecture theatre in the faculty of Journalism and Literature project was part of ten-year construction project on the University site. For a modern floor finish in keeping with the design of the building a seamless finish was required – in total 301 m2 was installed in October 2020 with the Sherwin-Williams SofTop SL system and 61 m2 of Resuflor HB epoxy floor coatings.The concrete screed sub-base was poured in August. A comfort floor type finish was requested which would have sound absorbing characteristics and have a soft touch. The products being used needed to have extremely low VOC (volatile organic compound) content and have no smell when being applied. The finishing coating of the SofTop system installed was Resupen WB Colour which carries the Eurofin Gold certification for indoor air comfort which confirms that the product fulfils low odour product emissions.Product/technical spec including mechanical grinding and application of angle profiles using epoxy screed including the vertical parts.Following preparation Resuprime pure epoxy resin primer was applied at 400 gr/sqm and broadcasted with a 0,3-0,5 silica quartz to enhance intercoat adhesion with the resin topping. Once cured the SofTop SL polyurethane self smoothing floor system was installed, which uses a body coat SofTop SLR Flex with a UV stable seal coat of Resuflor WB Colour. Under the seated areas an application of a scratch coat using Resuflor HB was applied at 600 g/sqm which was abraded and then another coat of Resuflor HB Ral 7038 applied at 800 gr/sqm. Steps and walking areas were installed with SofTop SL system in Ral 7038 at 3000 gr/sqm to provide 3mm thickness.   The whole area involved sanding the vertical parts to remove roughness of epoxy screed and drops of the resin from horizontal application. This involved using sandpaper with grit 60 to horizontal surfaces and vacuum this ready to be coated. An application of 75 gr/sqm of Resupen WB Colour Ral 7038 was applied. SofTop floors provide extreme durability and robustness, yet retain a soft and comfortable finish which is modern and attractive for diverse applications. Designed with footfall and wear in mind the finish is so tough it’s suitable for industrial areas as well as commercial and domestic facilities. The SofTop range offers a choice of 3 flooring systems providing varying thicknesses with degrees of bounce and flexibility.SofTop SL used at Turin is typically installed at 2-4 mm thickness and is recommended for industrial and commercial areas subject to normal traffic. The system has a high wear resistance, high chemical resistance and medium resistance to shocks. The floor is suitable for dry areas such as schools, laboratories, corridor areas, electronic companies and health care facilities, etc. Where footfall occurs SofTop finishes are good for the back due to the soft impact effect. With many traditional hard floors, regular users can find they experience difficulties with back issues from walking on an unyielding surface. The soft finish provided with SofTop systems provides sound absorbing ergonomics, improving the acoustic properties of the building and reducing acoustic impact on other areas of the building. Systems deliver thickness for strength but with a soft finish which has excellent resistance to sharp objects, impacts, shocks and dropped objects, minimising the chance of remedial repairs being required. Being self smoothing polyurethane SofTop is one of the fastest ways to lay a flooring system and to create a beautiful and durable foundation that completes a construction or refurbishment. The SofTop floor systems available can be ready to receive traffic after only 24 hours. Because Sherwin-Williams systems are seamless and impervious to handle humid conditions, spills that stay on the surface can be easily cleaned and hygiene maintained, with no contamination. 

A lot of walking is done throughout a hospital, and when Region Zealand was to build Copenhagen's new psychiatric hospital, Denmarks most modern of its kind, it opted to supply 30,000m2 of the hospital's total area of 44,000m2 with the most modern and long-lasting flooring available. The flooring is environmentally friendly and provides outstanding durable floors made up of a 6-7 mm thick polyurethane. The total 30,000m2 area included patient rooms, walking and living areas, kitchens and canteens and more than 5,000m2 of walking areas. The floor systems used as finishes on this project were SofTop SLR and SofTop Comfort SL. Both were hard wearing self smoothing polyurethane systems which can be installed quickly to a very high standard. The SofTop Comfort SL involves an initial flexible membrane prior to the self smoothing topping being applied. This provides the bounce in the finish which make for comfortable walking and sound reducing properties.

This foundry was previously known as the Leeds Copperworks and has played host to industrial breakthroughs, royal visits, and was the workplace of a 5,000 strong workforce before it closed in 1980. Preparation included diamond grinding and shotblasting. Solution Resuprime OT oil-tolerant primer was applied to prevent delamination. This was finished with two coats of Resucoat HB, a high-build, low odour, epoxy resin industrial floor coating for high impact and wear resistance. Outcome The site has been refurbished with buildings re-roofed and re-clad and a modern warehousing and distribution facility created.

A long term solution which is flexible and seamless is provided with SofTop Comfort SL polyurethane comfort floor. The system has proven durability for school use yet is soft and comfortable to walk on with sound deadening properties and enhanced health and safety performance.Although both the adults and the students have taken good care of their beautiful school, the passing of time still ravaged the concrete and the roof with damage and decay. The school was subsequently renovated, and by 2015 the buildings were once again ready to host its students after a thorough rebuilding, where the floors were nautrally renewed.The school area was approximately 8,000m2. Linoleum was chosen for one half and SofTop Comfort SL on the remaining 4,000m2. After two and a half years there was already clear differences in how the two floor types had met the challenge that the schools nearly 700 hundred students had inflicted on a daily basis.

This Virgin Airlines hangar at Heathrow Airport needed a flooring finish to resist wear and chemical spills, as well as deliver aesthetic appeal – with a light coloured shiny finish that would reflect light and capture the eye to brighten the 4000 square metre area.ExecutionTo ensure the highest quality finish for the hangar the proven standard Resutile ST floor coating system was organised. Specialist resin flooring contractor Datum Flooring first shot-blasted the concrete substrate under vacuum to achieve a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) 3 to ensure an excellent mechanical key and long term solution with the coating system. Then a primer coat of Resuflor WB was applied which penetrates the concrete and provides a sound surface seal so that an even finish is achieved with the top coats. This was followed by two roller coats of Resutile ST Colour in Light Grey.
