Case Study: Eversley Road, Swansea

Case Study: Eversley Road, Swansea

Resonate Systems Ltd

The Eversley Road development in Swansea is a newly constructed residential block comprising of 13 one-bedroom flats across three floors, along with associated communal areas. The project was delivered by Easyliving Limited in collaboration with Beacon Cymru Group. Faced with the ‘holy grail’ of building acoustics, the project had been designed to use engineered timber floor joists with masonry external block walls. This creates a lot of issues with flanking transmission travelling down the block work walls that pass from floor to floor, and can prove difficult to achieve good airborne sound passes for the party floors due to this issue. As part of a value engineering initiative, Easyliving Limited sought high-performance alternatives to other acoustic flooring and wall lining systems that had been suggested by the architect and acoustician. After reviewing various options, they selected Resonate GYPDECK 28, attracted by its performance credentials, competitive pricing, and the high level of technical support offered by the Resonate team. The Resonate team also recommended and specified a more suitable wall lining solution for the project, which not only addressed the flanking sound issue but also significantly reduced costs on wall lining materials. GYPDECK 28 was used on the separating floors to deliver outstanding airborne sound performance, due to its ultra high-density and engineered interlocking joint detail. These dry screed acoustic floor panels feature a 10mm layer of ResoFleece, a recycled polyester fibre (recycled plastic bottles) resilient layer that delivers excellent impact sound reduction. Installed beneath the final floor finish, GYPDECK 28 enhances acoustic comfort—making it an ideal solution for residential environments such as apartment buildings. Nathan Daniel of Easyliving Limited commented: "Working with the Resonate team has been very straightforward. Richard and the team were very easy to deal with and very knowledgeable, guiding us through the different products. The Easyliving project team had a very good experience of installing GYPDECK 28 due to it being easier to manoeuvre around site." The use of GYPDECK 28 not only simplified installation for the site team but also ensured a high level of acoustic performance, greatly improving living conditions for future residents. The combination of technical guidance, product reliability, and ease of handling made GYPDECK 28 a valuable component in the successful delivery of this residential development.
