The Falkirk Wheel is the world’s only rotating boat lift, a unique engineering marvel connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal and the Union Canal in Scotland. It lifts boats 35 metres (115 feet) using a rotating system instead of traditional locks, using minimal energy and offering a visually stunning experience. It replaces a series of 11 locks that fell into disuse in the 1930s. It was opened in 2002 as part of the Millennium Commission projects, reconnecting the two canals for the first time since 1933.The Falkirk Wheel is a testament to innovative engineering and design. It efficiently transfers boats between the two canals, which have a significant height difference. The design is based on Archimedes’ principle, ensuring that the wheel is always balanced, regardless of the size or weight of the boats being lifted [watch a video here].This ingenious design means the wheel uses very little power to operate. Visitors can witness this amazing process and learn about the history of Scotland’s canals at the visitor centre.Rearo was the only manufacturer able to supply the bespoke baby change unit within the project’s time constraints, delivering it in under three weeks. We used Corian® solid surface material, a popular choice for baby changing surfaces. Corian’s non-porosity deters bacteria, mould, and mildew growth, and makes it easy to clean and sanitise. The material’s durability ensures it can withstand frequent use in commercial and public settings, including high traffic spaces. Corian® can be joined seamlessly, eliminating gaps and crevices where dirt and bacteria accumulate, contributing to its hygienic properties and providing a smooth and attractive appearance. Its thermoformability allows it to be moulded into specific shapes, enabling comfortable and ergonomic designs, with curved surfaces and raised edges, which enhance safety and convenience.Because of these properties, Corian® baby changing surfaces are often used in commercial washrooms, hospitals, restaurants, shopping centres, airports, and other public facilities.

Scottish Water is a statutory service provider across Scotland and is responsible for providing drinking water to 2.46 million households and 150,000 business customers, as well as sewerage services.In supply partnership with Clark Contracts, Rearo assisted in the renovation of Scottish Water’s Inverness location, supplying products for the upgrade of the premises’ washroom and dining areas.Maintaining high quality standards in terms of brand appearance and employee facilities is something we at Rearo are keen to provide to customers with the use of our products and so our commercial team worked directly with the project specifiers to pick a complementary colour scheme.For washroom facilities, we supplied cubicles from our vandal resistant compact grade offer, together with matching Integrated Plumbing System (IPS) and bespoke vanity units. These were fabricated in both Abet Graphite Grey and Egger Alpine, for a sophisticated and modern look, complying fully with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.Dining facilities were fitted out with our Selkie Board wall lining solutions in both Green Frost and White Gloss – providing an easy to clean system for staff.

Dalkeith Country Park is a stunning country park filled with nature, wildlife, and walking trails. The park has been in the Buccleuch family for over 300 years, and the site itself can be traced back to Roman times, with some trees over 900 years old.The Rearo commercial team worked closely with the designer to specify the washrooms, taking into account the unique challenges of the historic site. All panels were manufactured bespoke due to walls not being able to be removed on-site, ensuring a perfect fit within the existing structure.The designer requested bespoke colours of Okapi Walnut for the cubicles and a matching Pale Olive for the vanity, which captured both the site’s heritage and the modern twist that the client was looking for. Cubicle widths and urinals were carefully designed to tie in with all existing plumbing, seamlessly integrating the new fixtures with the historic infrastructure.A Durasein vanity was selected for both bathrooms. It was manufactured as one piece using bespoke measurements to ensure an exact fit and finished with wall-mounted taps on the upstand to give it a modern and sophisticated look.

Edinburgh Castle stands as one of Scotland’s most treasured icons, A fortress etched into the skyline, steeped in history, and visited by millions every year.But behind the dramatic views andancient walls, there was a simple truth, the visitor experience needed modernisation in one crucial area that everyone uses… the toilets. A Historic Site with a Modern ChallengeIn early 2024, the team behind Edinburgh Castle recognised an opportunity. The Castle’s washrooms, particularly in high-traffic areas like the Red Coats Café and the Queen Anne Building, were overdue for an upgrade.These spaces had to do more than just function; they needed to fit subtly and sensitively within a centuries-old structure where every detail matters.Improving visitor comfort was the goal. Respecting the historic fabric of the site was the requirement.The challenge was clear: wherever possible, nothing should feel “new” in the wrong way. Any solution had to be modern, durable, and respectful of the Castle’s architectural legacy.A Tailored Approach One Size Doesn’t Fit AllThe team selected to deliver this challenge faced a unique situation, there was no off-the-shelf system that perfectly matched the Castle’s needs. What was required was something bespoke designed specifically for heritage interiors,with thoughtful consideration for both appearanceand longevity.Key design goals emerged• Full-height cubicles that felt solid, premium, and fitting within the space.• A custom colour finish to align with the interior palette of the Castle.• A solution that could work around existing floor tiled skirting, preserving this historic element rather than sweeping it away.This wasn’t merely an installation. It was a respectful collaboration between past and present.Designing with Respect and a Little InnovationTo answer the brief, the team developed a brand-new full-height cubicle system, laying thefoundation for what would become the ELEVATE range (and later influence the Triumphsystem). Each component was selected or crafted with care• The cubicles were finished in a bespoke Mountain Ash, a hue that harmonised with theCastle’s interior tones.• Materials and joinery were refined so the system worked with the existing floor skirtingtile meaning the historic flooring remained intact and unchanged.• Durable & recycled hardware and specification ensured the installation would withstandheavy visitor use while looking fresh for years.This was heritage-friendly engineering at its best blending subtle design with robustperformance.On-Site | Calm, Coordinated, ConsiderateOnce the design was finalised, the logistics and installation were handled with the same attention to detail. The new systems were manufactured at Rearo, shipped to the Rosyth branch, then delivered to site using our own fleet of vans to ensure a smooth handover onarrival.Clear, comprehensive installation instructions accompanied the shipment, allowing the on-site team to work efficiently and with confidence. A Result Worth CelebratingWhen the work was completed, the impact was immediate and tangible. Visitors experienced a level of comfort and refinement that simply wasn’t there before but without the space everfeeling out of place among the Castle’s aged stones.A year on from installation, the facilities remain in excellent condition, so much so that the team was invited back to photograph the finished project. The toilets still look as good as the day they were completed, a testament to the quality of design, materials, and execution. More Than a Toilet UpgradeWhat began as a functional requirement became something more: a catalyst for product innovation. The bespoke full-height system created for Edinburgh Castle didn’t just solve a problem on site, it became a foundation for a new product range, now specified in diverse settings where heritage and contemporary use meet.

EGGER is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wood-based materials, renowned for its commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability. When upgrading its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Barony, EGGER wanted every detail to reflect its values, from efficient design and practical functionality to a truly circular use of materials. To bring this vision to life, the company partnered with Rearo, experts in bespoke laminate fabrication and commercial fit-out solutions. EGGER’s goal was clear – to create modern, durable changing facilities that showcased its own MFC materials in a completely new way. Traditionally, staff lockers are made from steel or aluminium, but EGGER wanted to demonstrate the strength and adaptability of its own boards.  The project called for a fully bespoke design, including lockers built from EGGER’s 18mm MFC, matching bench seating, and large boot lockers for PPE storage, all within a tight timeframe and before internal walls were even complete. Rearo’s team worked closely with EGGER and the project architects to bring the concept into reality. The lockers were re-engineered with custom hinges and finished with sloped tops to maintain a clean, clutter-free look. Bespoke steelwork was designed to support both the lockers and seating, providing strength and precision. To simplify installation, Rearo created only two bench frame designs. Wall-mounted and free-standing. Making the system quick to assemble while keeping costs efficient. Large boot lockers were produced in modular, flat-pack sections that could be easily built on site, ensuring seamless delivery despite space constraints.Throughout the project, Rearo remained proactive, conducting full site surveys and adapting designs in real time to account for unexpected variations in services and wall layouts. This collaborative, flexible approach ensured the installation ran smoothly and met EGGER’s strict deadlines. Beyond its technical success, the project stands out as a genuine example of sustainable circular design. Rearo’s recycled timber waste was sent to EGGER, processed into new MFC sheets, then returned to Rearo for manufacturing before being installed back at the Barony facility, completing a true closed-loop cycle. The result is a striking, functional changing facility that perfectly embodies EGGER’s values: sustainable, practical, and built to last. Through expert collaboration, precise craftsmanship, and a shared commitment to innovation, EGGER and Rearo delivered a project that turns everyday spaces into a showcase of design and sustainability in action.

This custom-fit cubicle range uses RapidFit’s carefully selected range of 9 décor options, allowing for made-to-measure units that eliminate the need for on-site alterations. Alexander Dennis is the world’s largest manufacturer of double-deck and lightweight buses, leading the transition to zero-emission mobility.For Alexander Dennis’ Washrooms, Rearo supplied Aspire cubicles, vanity units, integrated plumbing system (IPS), solid-surface wash troughs, high-pressure laminate vanity tops, and Selkie wall panels.The Rearo commercial team worked with Alexander Dennis architects to line out where the cubicles, urinals, vanity and troughs would be positioned to create manufacturing drawings.Aspire SGL was specified using a base colour of Slate Grey for the pilasters and access panels. A contrasting Light Grey decor was chosen for the partitions, doors and shadow gaps.Selkie Premium White Gloss was selected to offer a high-end and moisture-resistant finish to combat the humidity caused by the shower area.

E&R Moffat is one of the UK’s leading catering equipment manufacturers serving a comprehensive range of clients throughout the various food service sectors.Rearo supplied all materials to fit out E&R Moffat’s washrooms, selecting from the Aspire and Selkie ranges. Impact Core Cubicles, Vanity Units, and Integrated Plumbing System (IPS) were selected for the factory washrooms, with colours chosen from the standard RapidFit decor range. Water Blue was used as the primary colour for the Cubicle Doors, Pilasters, Vanity Tops, and IPS Access Panels and contrasted well with Light Grey Partitions and Shadow Gaps.Due to space limitations, Rearo’s Universal Cubicle Doors were installed in an outward-opening direction to allow maximum space within the cubicle and prevent the doors from colliding with the bathroom fixtures. Selkie shower panels (Gransasso) were installed in the shower area.Selkie is a product that offers an attractive design and provides an easy-to-maintain cleaning area, reducing the facility’s maintenance time and costs.

The River Inn is a modern country bar and restaurant located in the village of Houston, Renfrewshire. It features a river terrace and serves Modern British and global dishes, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced produce. It is renowned for its excellent Sunday carvery.The River Inn has a history dating back to the 19th century, with the original building serving as a coaching house. It has been extended to become the substantial venue it is today, with a well-appointed restaurant and garden bistro, two bars serving a range of local ales, a sports bar and a large function venue.The newly renovated River Inn reopened in 2024, with fully refurbished bars, a refreshed exterior, improved lighting, and new features for the beer garden.
