A luxurious housing development by AJC Homes Scotland in one of the most exposed parts of the UK has used Edgemere concrete interlocking slates and a full dry fix system from Marley for their roofing.

Cottrell & Vermeulen Architects specified Marley Western Red Cedar Shingles in order to complement the surroundings. They recognised the excellent aesthetic qualities, along with providing a low maintenance building with a high level of thermal insulation, whilst also meeting the planning authorities requirements of keeping the building sympathetic to the historic church on the same site.

When colour is the primary concern, and the project is happening over 1,000 miles away, Marley had to get creative.

A custom-built detached home situated on a peninsula in a secluded lagoon, and featuring Western Red Cedar Shingles from Marley has scooped a number of leading industry awards. Located in the Norfolk broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, Backwater, which was created by, Platform 5 Architects, is made up of three self-contained modules. Each individual module is further complemented by the cedar-clad pitched roofs found at the front of the property. This project won multiple awards; RIBA East Award 2017 and Custom and Self Build Project of the Year at the 2017 Structural Timber Awards.

Marley's Acme Double Camber Clay Plain Tile in Burnt Flame has been used by EAB Homes and Developments Ltd on their award-winning development in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Beauty & Heritage - Marley’s Hawkins Fired Sienna clay plain roof tile, the perfect specification choice for a new development in Warwickshire. Properties had to fit seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, while also meeting strict planning regulations. A luxury self build project in Warwickshire has used an innovative mixed brindle clay plain tile, the Marley Acme Single Camber, to give the roof a traditional, high quality aesthetic, in keeping with the home’s rural surroundings.

ADRA, the largest social housing provider in North Wales, has collaborated with Marley on a new build project that deploys a solar PV solution on the roofscape. Key to its success was the spirit of teamwork that saw Marley support ADRA throughout the project’s journey. Based in North Wales, ADRA is responsible for 6,800 properties and supports 15,000 local residents. Embarking on its own sustainability journey, the social housing provider needed an effective solar PV solution for the roofscapes of two new semi-detached properties constructed in Bro Pedr Fardd, Gwynedd. A total of 12 Marley SolarTile® panels were specified across the two properties, with the objective behind the product choice, ensuring that the tenants would have access to a clean, sustainable, and cheap energy source to support their daily lives. The need to decarbonise housing stock and create energy efficient, sustainable homes for the future is a vital element of the UK’s progress to net zero by 2050. With regulatory changes to building regulations under Part L now mandatory, those charged with delivering new homes are seeking practical and cost-effective ways to ensure compliance while building high performing homes.

A barn conversion in the picturesque village of Witham Friary, near Bath, was completed using 10,000 Acme Natural Orange Double Camber clay plain tiles and plain angle clay ridges. The Natural Orange colour was selected to contrast with the local stonework and the traditional cedar shingles used on the vertical elevations and the central atrium between the two buildings. The unique double camber format of the clay plain tiles also adds a subtle texture and character to the roof with accentuated light and shade.

 A tight construction deadline, listed building challenges, and the presence of a protected bat population, were some of the considerations Marley has helped successfully overcome on a roofing refurbishment project at Chester Zoo. 

Bloor Homes has chosen Marley's Edgemere slates in Smooth Grey and Smooth Brown as a cost-effective roof finish for 95 new homes in the Solihull village of Cheswick Green.

Marley's Modern Interlocking Concrete Tiles within the shade of "Smooth Grey" were specified for the roofing of this new and wonderful extension of the Chippenham Care Home, which is opposite to Chippenham's newly built Golf Clubhouse. The Modern interlocking concrete tile is heavily chosen due to its slate-like appearance, ease of installation and due to it being a economical choice.

Denbighshire Council has become one of the first local authorities in the UK to pilot a new type of solar pitched roof system, with the aim of cutting maintenance costs and helping tenants reduce their energy bills. The pioneering refurbishment scheme has seen Marley’s full pitched roof system, with integrated solar panels, installed on 110 homes and surveys are already taking place for a second, larger phase.

Hawkins Staffordshire Blue case study

Following the acquisition of planning permission, the Hollinwood Business Park, a former brown field site, will see seven new office buildings constructed, all in the style of cotton mills built in the 1800s.The first of these buildings, Block G, has now been constructed and is benefitting from the installation of renewable solar PV technology to ensure the new business park can have a sustainable future in the decades ahead.The project has seen the installation of 114 Marley SolarTile® panels on to the roof of a large building that forms part of the all-new Hollinwood Business Park in Oldham.Marley’s SolarTile® solution was specified to provide access to a sustainable energy source that will help power the newly constructed site, helping to control energy costs and provide an additional attractive incentive to companies looking to relocate to the business park.

Lincoln Tile Case Study

Western Red Cedar Shingles with FRT Exterior® Fire Retardant Treatment (AA Rating) provided the Welsh Primary School in Swansea with feature cladding to the curved external walls, in order to create what the architect described as a ‘cedar shell’.

Combating fuel poverty through solar power was at the heart of Marley’s project with the North Ayrshire Council.

Taking place from 23 - 27 May, Marley’s Western Red Cedar Shingles have been specified on an eye-catching garden design project set to grab attention at the highly anticipated RHS Chelsea Flower Show.Supporting a design by world-renowned treehouse consultancy, Blue Forest, the shingles are helping to showcase a fairy tale creation called The Magical Hideaway. The mystical design was created in collaboration with architects Randle Siddeley Limited and includes a charming treehouse and hillside hollow set within an enchanted meadow garden and features whimsical finishes and furnishings to ignite the imagination of anyone who enters. To support the project, Marley supplied a total of 30 bundles of its Western Red Cedar Shingles to create the exterior of the treehouse, helping to encase it with a warm and high performing envelope that enhances the natural scenescape of the highly creative Blue Forest show entry.Stuart Nicholson, roof systems director at Marley, commented: “The Magical Hideaway concept is inspiring, so it’s great our Western Red Cedar Shingles are playing a part in helping to bring it to life. Creating, building, and delivering on such projects can be challenging and complex and we worked alongside the Blue Forest team to ensure flexible product delivery matched their build requirements to meet various deadlines for the show.“It is a fantastic example of how the shingle finish can be used imaginatively. Lincoln Clay Interlocking Pantiles in Rustic Red have been installed on the roofing of a new build home in the village of Wellingore, near Lincoln. Lincoln combines the bold and beautiful curves of traditional clay pantiles with all the installation simplicity and speed required for today’s roofs.This means that Lincoln affords the rich appeal of natural, clay pantiled roofs, a thin leading edge and a beauty that matures over time.

Approximately 5,000 square metres of Marley Edgemere and Marley Concrete Plain Tiles were installed as part of a £44m new-build project by Galliford Try at Wixams Retirement Village. Galliford Try led the Wixams Retirement Village project from start to finish, with NRA Roofing and Marley working together for the installation & manufacture of roofing products. Key reasons for the specification of Marley Edgemere and Marley concrete plain tiles included the cost-competitiveness of the tiles as well as the visual appeal and product attributes which would make the installation process quicker and more efficient.
