Creating caption stands for Beaulieu Museum using RecoStakes

Creating caption stands for Beaulieu Museum using RecoStakes

GCL Products Ltd

Providing relevant information in a short, concise and easy-to-read way is vital for museums and events when displaying items such as sculptures, historic artefacts or displays. This is why ensuring you create the perfect caption in front of your display is of the utmost importance to provide all of the relevant information without visitors losing interest or missing the caption completely.About The ProjectThis case study highlights the application of RecoStakes at Beaulieu Museum for their Sculpture at Beaulieu 2023 event. This event showcases the remarkable work of over 57 renowned sculptors and runs from June 17th to September 24th. Beaulieu Museum aimed to provide their visitors with perfectly positioned sculpture captions and sought an attractive, durable and long-lasting solution."We hold a sculpture exhibition every other year at Beaulieu, here in the New Forest. Whilst Beaulieu is best known for the world-famous National Motor Museum, it is also the home of Palace House, the Montagu family's ancestral home. The exhibition features 300 sculptures in Palace House and throughout its grounds and gardens.""We wanted to enhance the exhibition this year with captions for each of the sculptures, displaying the sculpture name, artist and a QR code taking the visiting through to a dedicated webpage with more information. The outdoor captions needed to be at a height and angle that made it easy for the visitor to read. We considered using wood, but from experience these haven't lasted well from year to year. Metal posts were too expensive.""One of the team then came across GCL Products and your RecoStake and thought with some adaptation that they could work. We bought a couple of samples of the grey 60cm stake and mocked up a caption by chop sawing a 45-degree angle on the top of the post and mounting with two screws a backboard onto the post. We then printed each caption on a black die-bond board and stuck it to the caption post." - Rachael at Beaulieu Enterprises LtdWhat Are RecoStakes?RecoStakes, part of our lawn edging fixings collection, are made entirely from recycled plastic waste generated by consumers. These premium fixings are meticulously designed and crafted to be used alongside RecoEdge edging rolls. They offer robust, durable, weatherproof, and easy-to-install solutions for creating attractive separations between different landscaped areas. The unique attributes of RecoStakes, derived from their use of recycled plastic waste, made them an ideal choice for Beaulieu Museum and their sculpture caption stands. The 600mm RecoStakes provided the museum with sturdy and reliable stands at the desired height. Moreover, they can be reused for future events, thereby reducing costs. Conclusion"With these tests being a success, we installed circa 200 of these posts in the final days of installation, and they are looking great and lasting well. We are confident given the materials they are made from that they will last for several exhibitions to come." - Rachael at Beaulieu Enterprises LtdWe are thrilled to witness the successful and innovative implementation of RecoStakes at Beaulieu Museum. This project exemplifies the art of transforming outdoor spaces using top-quality materials and a skilled workforce with years of experience in resin bound gravel installations. The choice of the stunning Springtime blend and AH Paving's dedicated three-man installation team set the stage for a remarkable transformation. Springtime, with its vibrant and natural appearance, breathes new life into outdoor spaces. The customer's decision to opt for Springtime was driven by its beautiful mix of golden, brown, white, and red aggregates, creating a traditional colour blend perfectly suited for their countryside setting.Resin Bound Gravel Installation ProcessThe installation was expertly carried out by the three-man AH Paving team, showcasing their excellent teamwork and precise workmanship, honed through years of experience. The first team member meticulously managed the material mixing process. He created a textbook set up of their mixes with each stack featuring; a PermaBound resin binder, four bags of gravel from large to small and a bag of KLCP sand. Reinforced Grass Pathways Created For Millbrook Golf Course Using Rubber Grass Mats

Reinforced Grass Pathways Created For Millbrook Golf Course Using Rubber Grass Mats

GCL Products Ltd

Situated in Bedfordshire, Millbrook Golf Club is a magnificent golf course that sought to enhance specific areas of its course to ensure year-round suitability. In this case study, the greenkeeping team focused on improving the walk-on walk-off areas of newly constructed tee boxes to prevent erosion and the formation of muddy or boggy ground during the winter months. To create a pathway that would offer exceptional grass protection while preserving the natural beauty of the course once the grass beneath had grown, the team opted for our rubber grass mats. Our rubber golf path matting is highly sought after due to its remarkable benefits, including durability, ease of installation, permeability, and compatibility with wheelchairs and golf carts. These attributes make it the perfect solution for a wide range of projects and applications.Robert the Millbrook course General Manager told us; "We chose rubber grass mats to be used for the walk-on walk-off areas to two of our tee boxes, one of which has recently had a new pathway to the rear of the tee installed".Rubber Grass Mats On The 7th TeeExtending from the 6th green to the 7th tee, this particular section of the course experienced noticeable wear and tear. Without careful maintenance from the greenkeeping team, it could easily become an extremely boggy spot.To alleviate the risk of muddy ground in this area, the team devised a plan to revamp the space. They constructed a new pathway at the rear of the tee and re-turfed the slopes on either side. The surface of the path was then adorned with artificial grass. In addition, the lead-up to the artificial grass path was covered with our protective rubber grass mats. These mats were effortlessly laid in place by the team using plastic fixing pegs and cable ties.Once the area has matured, the golf path mats will become nearly invisible, providing a natural-looking yet protective surface to ensure the course remains in optimal condition for its members throughout the year.Robert kept us up to date with their progress; "Our Greenkeepers have been busy putting the finishing touches to the 7th Tee. Turfing the slopes, laying artificial grass for the path and installing a rubber grass mat infrastructure which the grass will grow through".Rubber Grass Mats On The 12th TeeSimilar to the work done on the 7th tee, the team at Millbrook devised a plan to enhance the approach from the 11th green to the 12th tee using our rubber grass mats.To enhance year-round usability regardless of weather conditions, they improved the approach to the tee box from the 11th green by installing our rubber grass mats. These mats were laid out, interconnected with cable ties, and easily secured in place using plastic pegs.Once the grass grows through the carefully designed holes in the rubber grass mats, the course will maintain its natural appearance while benefiting from a reinforced pathway that prevents the formation of boggy areas.Robert again informed us of the upgrade of this tee approach path; "The 12th Tee approach work is progressing really well thanks to our greenkeeping team. The area around the 11th bunker has also been re-turfed".The ResultRobert and the team are delighted with the project's outcome and the advantages provided by the rubber grass mats. Some club members have also expressed their appreciation for the new tee boxes and approaches on the Millbrook Facebook page; "The tee boxes looked very smart on Saturday".We are thrilled that our simple yet highly effective rubber grass mats have proven to be a resounding success for Millbrook Golf Course. Our exceptional golf pathway mats have assisted the greenkeeping team in achieving their objective of creating reinforced and natural-looking approach areas for their new tee boxes. Undoubtedly, these improvements will benefit the team, members and the course for years to come. For more information on our rubber grass mats and other rubber surfacing solutions, or to request a quote for an upcoming project, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Reinforced Gravel Car Parking Installation at Belper School using X-Grid Gravel Grid

Reinforced Gravel Car Parking Installation at Belper School using X-Grid Gravel Grid

GCL Products Ltd

With the introduction of new sports areas and a sixth form college, The Belper School faced a significant shortage of parking spaces. The growing demand for additional parking became evident as staff, visitors, and students resorted to parking on grassed areas. Consequently, numerous muddy patches emerged around the school grounds, negatively impacting the area's aesthetics and making it increasingly inaccessible. Moreover, this led to an increase in the amount of mud brought inside the school, placing a greater burden on the caretaking and cleaning staff. To address the drainage issues and offer an environmentally friendly alternative to concrete or tarmac, the school opted for X-Grid® as a permeable alternative for traditional car park surfacing. The school identified several areas around the premises as suitable locations for the car parks and proceeded to excavate them. A compacted hardcore base made of MoT-type stone was used to establish a strong and stable sub-base for the X-Grid®. By placing a geotextile membrane over the hardcore, the school minimised the risk of weed growth and created a separation layer between the build-up layers. The X-Grid® was then installed on a well-screeded sand blinding layer and filled with durable decorative gravel.By replacing the existing grassed areas with X-Grid® filled with gravel, Belper School successfully resolved their overcrowded car parks without the need for additional drainage infrastructure. The highly permeable nature of X-Grid® facilitated the controlled dispersion of surface water back into the water table. Consequently, the amount of mud around the school grounds was significantly reduced, virtually eliminating it altogether. This enabled the availability of parking spaces throughout the year, providing staff, visitors, and students with ample parking options while preserving the aesthetic appeal of their surroundings. Moreover, the use of X-Grid® ensured that the gravel remained in place, eliminating migration and greatly reducing surface maintenance requirements, thus keeping the areas looking as attractive as possible.

In this case study, we delve into a PermaBound driveway installed by GR Groundworks who were tasked with replacing their customer's worn-out driveway with a beautiful resin bound gravel surface. Continue reading to discover the entire process of creating a magnificent driveway. After carefully browsing the bespoke PermaBound sample case and inspecting each blend, the customer confidently chose Rivieria as the primary blend and Steel Blue for the border and pathways alongside their house. These beautiful selections were made carefully to ensure they complemented each other whilst enhancing the property's overall aesthetic. The GR Groundworks team started the project by excavating and removing the existing, visibly deteriorating driveway.Once the old surface was cleared, a strong hardcore foundation was established. Block paving edges were then laid to form a step at the front door. On to the hardcore, a concrete sub-base was then laid, offering a solid surface for installing their PermaBound surface. To accommodate the installation of two resin bound gravel blends side-by-side, a durable aluminium edging trim was fixed to the concrete surface, creating a crisp yet discreet separation between the two colours. With the thorough groundwork completed to a high standard, the installation of the PermaBound surface could commence. The team prepared the PermaBound installation perfectly, stacking up each separate mix: four bags of specialist stone, a high-quality PermaBound resin binder and a bag of sand. One member of the GR team managed the mixing process using their SoRoTo forced action mixer. For each mix, they added BoundFast Catalyst to the resin binder to accelerate resin curing times in colder weather. They combined the gravel, catalysed resin binder and KLCP sand in the SoRoTo mixer, ensuring each batch was mixed for precisely the same duration. The mixed PermaBound material was then carefully transferred to a wheelbarrow by another team member, transported to the designated installation area and roughly spread out.The third team member then took the lead, hand-troweling using The Resin Bull's 500LT double-handled trowel to craft a well-compacted and level PermaBound driveway. They began by first laying the Steel Blue border and paths before troweling the main Glacier driveway area.Years of experience combined with the invaluable insights gained through attending the PermaBound training course equipped the GR Groundworks team with the skills to produce this flawless PermaBound surface. The combination of premium resin-bound materials and exceptional craftsmanship resulted in a stunning, durable and functional PermaBound driveway that has truly transformed the customer's home!If you're considering a PermaBound surface, our team can turn your ideas into a reality. Please contact us by calling 01246 418144 or LiveChat with us during office hours. TurfMesh Installation at The Grange, Edinburgh

TurfMesh Installation at The Grange, Edinburgh

GCL Products Ltd

The sports club is a regular host of Scotland cricket international matches as well as hosting hockey, squash and tennis. Neil and the senior groundsman had noticed a couple of issues surfacing on a large grassed area of the club which was occasionally used as an access route, vehicular parking and servicing of the ground during big cricket matches and other events. We look at how TurfMesh worked for The Grange while causing minimal effects to the aesthetics of this beautiful sports ground.Knowing that to improve the situation, the club would need to invest in an efficient grass reinforcement solution, Neil and the senior groundsman began researching grass reinforcement products which soon led them to our website and our range of TurfMesh products, in particular TurfMesh 1800 – our thickest turf mesh variant. They both read up on the meshes many benefits including its ability to withstand the weight of cars and lorries as well as being very easy to install using just u-pins whilst protecting the root of the grass. Impressed by its capabilities and discreetness once the grass below has grown, over 1000m² of the TM1800 was ordered along with enough U-Pins to secure the mesh into the ground which was dispatched the next working day and delivered to the club via pallet delivery just a few days later. With the TurfMesh and u-pins at the sports club, the senior groundsman and his team could begin installing their new grass reinforcement mesh on to the prior planned area. TurfMesh is a simple product to install, simply unroll the mesh and position over the area you want to cover. To secure the mesh, evenly space and use two u-pins per. Repeat the process of unroll and secure until the entire area has been covered. The team followed this procedure which they found to be simple and effective. With the mesh secure, the groundsman then decided to dress the top of the TurfMesh with sand to compact the area further. All that was left to do after was wait for the grass below to grow through and disguise the mesh to give them a strong and natural looking surface!Neil and the groundsmen that worked with the TurfMesh are very pleased with the results and how it has performed. Neil told us:“As you can see the grass has grown in very well at this end. There is still a bit of sand, which we dressed in, on the surface at the south end but we’re very happy with the way it is working.” “We have a couple of One Day Internationals coming up in the next few weeks, Scotland v England and Scotland v Pakistan, so we are hoping the grass will look pristine by then.”We would like to thank Neil and Grange Sports Club for firstly, choosing to use our grass reinforcement mesh and for sharing the photos and details to allow us to create an in-depth case study of their project. Wet Pour Rubber Safety Surface Installed Under A Play Area

Wet Pour Rubber Safety Surface Installed Under A Play Area

GCL Products Ltd

In this case study, we take a look at the amazing project undertaken by Allium Landscapes, as they were tasked by their clients with converting a garden into a haven of safe play for their young children. The objective was clear: create a secure play area that encourages imaginative play without compromising on safety. To achieve this goal, Allium began researching to identify the most suitable safety surfacing option to install beneath a wooden climbing frame and slide. After detailed research and discussions with their clients, they arrived at the decision that a wet pour rubber surface would be the most suitable solution, blending safety and aesthetics seamlessly. They opted for this superb rubber surfacing solution to ensure;Reduced risk of injuries: The top priority was to reduce the risk of fall-related injuries and wet pour rubber safety surfacing was deemed the ideal choice for this purpose.Low maintenance: Allium wanted a solution that would stand the test of time and the unpredictable British weather. Wet pour rubber is highly resistant to weather elements including rain, wind and UV rays, ensuring year-round usage without the hassles of regular maintenance.Stability and non-slip: Allium understood the importance of providing a stable, non-slip surface conducive to running, jumping and all other kinds of play. The Wet Pour Rubber Installation ProcessThe journey to achieve a safe and visually appealing play space began with the excavation of the existing grass and soil surface. In its place, a strong sub-base was prepared to provide a solid foundation for the rubber surfacing. This crucial step helps to ensure the stability and longevity of the play area.Next, SBR rubber was mixed with our rubber resin binder in a forced action mixer. This mixture was then laid and trowelled onto the prepared sub-base. The thickness of the SBR base determines the critical fall height rating of the rubber surface, so it is highly recommended that you plan carefully to ensure your new surface provides a suitable CFH rating for the play equipment it is under.Following this, the Reseda Green wet pour rubber was mixed together with our specialist rubber crumb resin binder in a forced action mixer. The skilled team then hand-trowelled this attractive 15mm top layer onto the SBR base, creating a seamless and resilient surface beneath the climbing frame and slide. The unique green colour adds an inviting touch to the garden. With the safety surface in place and fully cured, the installation of the climbing frame and slide followed. The team followed the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that all components were securely fastened and the frame was level, stable and firmly anchored to the floor using anchors in the rubber surface. These additional safety measures provided complete peace of mind to the clients, knowing that their children were not only protected by the rubber safety surface but also by a sturdy and securely anchored climbing frame.Project OutcomeThe transformation achieved in the client's garden is nothing short of astonishing. Their children now have a safe, durable and visually appealing play surface beneath a new wooden climbing frame and slide. With the wet pour rubber surface in place, the family can now enjoy the outdoors without worry, knowing that their children are shielded during their outdoor adventures. Allium Landscapes went above and beyond to deliver the garden that the clients had requested. We would like to thank Allium Landscapes for selecting us as their supplier for the wet pour rubber surface and for sharing the photos of this exceptional installation allowing us to produce this case study.Should you have any questions regarding wet pour rubber surfacing or any of our other product offerings, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
