Sustainability overview

Sustainability & Responsibility

At Contour Heating, we recognise our responsibility to support more sustainable construction and estate management practices. From the materials we use to the lifecycle of our products, our approach is shaped by a commitment to long-term performance, responsible sourcing and reducing environmental impact wherever possible.

UK-Based Manufacturing & Reduced Transport Impact

All of Contour’s metal products are manufactured here in the UK, supporting British industry and significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance imports. Our proximity to major distribution routes ensures efficient delivery, while minimising emissions related to transport and logistics.

Our plywood pipe boxing range is also sourced and fabricated in the UK, contributing to a consistent and quality-controlled supply chain with lower embodied carbon than many imported equivalents.

Responsibly Sourced Materials

We are committed to working with supply chain partners who align with our values around sustainability, quality, and compliance. Materials used across our product ranges are selected not only for durability and performance, but also for their environmental credentials, including:

  • Zintec and Magnelis®-coated steel – known for long-lasting corrosion resistance, reducing the need for premature replacement.
  • Sustainably sourced plywood – manufactured from legally harvested timber and suitable for long-term use in educational and healthcare settings.

Designed for Longevity

Contour products are built to last. By specifying robust, low-maintenance heating guards and pipe boxing, estates teams can reduce replacement cycles and avoid the environmental impact of frequent repairs or upgrades.

Many of our installations remain in use for 10+ years, with components designed to withstand challenging environments and cleaning regimes.

Supporting Infection Control, Reducing Waste

Our use of BioCote® anti-microbial technology not only improves hygiene outcomes, it also plays a role in sustainability. By supporting infection control, Contour products help reduce reliance on harsh chemical disinfectants and contribute to healthier indoor environments.

Additionally, our designs feature accessible panels and easy-clean surfaces, promoting long-term maintenance and reducing the need for frequent product removal or disruption.

Reducing Onsite Waste

Our products are supplied with careful attention to packaging and installation efficiency. Radiator guards and pipe boxing are manufactured to size wherever possible, helping reduce the need for excessive onsite cutting and the associated material waste.

Built-in Reusability & End-of-life Considerations

Where appropriate, our designs allow for products to be relocated, reinstalled, or repurposed as buildings evolve. We actively encourage product lifecycle planning and can support clients in identifying ways to extend the usable life of existing systems through upgrades or component replacement.

At the end of their life, metal components are fully recyclable, further supporting sustainability targets across healthcare, education, and public sector estates.

Partnering for Progress

Contour is committed to continuously improving our sustainability performance. We work closely with supply chain partners and project teams to identify opportunities for environmental improvement - from reducing material waste and carbon emissions to promoting better lifecycle value.

As part of the wider construction and design community, we believe in supporting sector-wide progress toward more sustainable, responsible, and resilient built environments.
