'NO-DIG' RESIN BOUND SURFACING SOLUTION FOR PARK IN PUTNEY, LONDON

'NO-DIG' RESIN BOUND SURFACING SOLUTION FOR PARK IN PUTNEY, LONDON

Addagrip Terraco Ltd

Terrabase Rustic was selected for a ‘no-dig’ project creating new pathways across existing grassed, macadam and gravel areas in a popular park in Putney, London.Addagrip approved contractor True Grip Ltd was approached by the local authority to provide a quote and proposal to upgrade the existing pathways and create new paths to the Leader’s Gardens, a small public park lying alongside Putney Embankment, opened in 1903.SURFACING REQUIREMENTOne of the issues to be resolved was that the tree roots could not be disturbed so a ‘no-dig’ system had to be applied around the trees and rooted areas. For these ‘no-dig’ areas True Grip specified Addagrip’s innovative Terrabase Rustic system to be laid directly onto the existing grass and directly over the rooted areas, creating a new pathway. This meant that the trees and tree roots were not disturbed and due to the porosity of the Terrabase Rustic system, precipitation would not be reduced, irrigating the existing surface without changing the trees’ climate or environment.Over 250m2 of Terrabase Rustic Oak 6 -10mm aggregate blend was selected to provide attractive, hard wearing, natural aggregate pathways that are low maintenance, seamless and in keeping with the park setting. The porosity of the Terrabase Rustic system allows essential drainage to reach the tree roots and provide all year round access for pedestrians and wheelchair users.

Addagrip Terraco Ltd

Addagrip Terraco approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd has completed a 3500m2 resin bound installation for the new High School in Portobello on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Using Addaset resin bound and Addacolor resin bound coloured surfacing the main feature was the creation of a distinctive world map design. The project funded by the City of Edinburgh Council includes a new building for 1,400 pupils at the site in Portobello Park, sympathetically designed by JM Architects with the landscape in mind.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe new paving around the school needed to be low maintenance and durable with good slip resistance. The project also required a colourful durable surfacing product to create a resin bound map of the world to be installed adjacent to the Geography department for use during lessons. Designed in contrasting Addacolor Blue and Addaset Lucerne Silver, the map design sets off the area beautifully and should hopefully encourage the pupils to get outdoors and ‘see a bit of the world’. Addaset Lucerne Silver was also installed to the forecourt and rear courtyards of the school to provide a free draining natural silver granite effect surface to complement the colour of the new building. The new school opened to pupils in October 2016.

The installation of this new stretch of the cycle path runs alongside Green Park to provide a safe route for cyclists from Buckingham Palace to Wellington Arch.BBA approved Terrabound Resin Bound surfacing was selected to provide over 2,200m2 of smooth, seamless, porous paving that would be hard wearing and provide good slip resistance for the cyclists. The natural aggregate finish in a 6mm Rhine Gold complements the location alongside Green Park and will provide a low maintenance surface in this very busy location.Working for Transport for London, F M Conway carried out the installation over a 9-day period working in one of the busiest tourist areas in Central London and during a period of very hot weather. The team started at Wellington Arch/Commonwealth Memorial end of Constitution Hill and finished the last 185m stretch outside Buckingham palace on Friday 8th July. Whilst the crowds gathered to watch the Household Cavalry ride up Constitution Hill from Wellington Arch, St James’s, London to Buckingham Palace there was also much public interest in seeing the team’s coordinated system of installing the resin bound surface and watching the transformation as it happened. The work was completed alongside the existing path that runs along Green Park so a metal edging detail was used, separating the Resin Bound surface from the hoggin surface around the mature trees that line the roadside.

RESIN BOUND FOR RBG KEW WALKWAYAddagrip Terraco are delighted to have been involved in the Broad Walk project at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew with the installation of over 3000sqm of our innovative resin bound porous paving system, Terrabase Rustic.SURFACING REQUIREMENTSAddagrip Terraco were approached as the UK ‘s leading manufacturer of resin exterior surfaces and together with approved contractor, True Grip Ltd, carried out extensive surveys and put together several specification options and costs that Kew could consider. Kew selected Addagrip’s new patented resin bound surfacing system Terrabase Rustic as it offered a larger 6-10mm stone size providing the rustic looking finish that Kew required and could be installed over the existing macadam with minimum environmental impact and disruption. Drainage was another key requirement and the larger stone size of this bound system provides maximum porosity. As the Terrabase product was relatively new, the surface had to meet many exacting performance criteria put forward by Kew which Addagrip was able to substantiate. After 9 months of discussion, True Grip Ltd were appointed to work via main contractor Kier Facilities Services to install the Terrabase Rustic Oak finish. Despite challenging weather conditions and site restrictions due to the public use of the main areas, True Grip Ltd installed 3,163m2 over the entire Broad Walk, following behind Kier Facilities Services who were installing extensive drainage services and brick edging. The new Terrabase Rustic surface is hard wearing, low maintenance with no loose stone and provides a seamless, natural rustic pathway which looks very much at home in the grounds of London’s historic Royal Botanic Gardens. This exciting project has created the longest double herbaceous borders in the UK. The 300m long borders either side of the Broad Walk from the Orangery to the Palm House Pond, were planted with swathes of vibrant summer flowering perennials, grasses and bulbs to form a spectacular new horticultural feature. Planting continued into early summer 2016 to complete the project.Image credit: Richard Wilford, RBG Kew
