OVERVIEW
Twinfix is proud to have partnered with Jamieson Contracting on the delivery of a key roof refurbishment at Coventry Station, providing a modern solution that enhances natural light, improves aesthetics, and future-proofs the structure for years to come.
Originally opened in 1962, Coventry Station is one of the finest surviving examples of post-war railway architecture in Britain. The station building is Grade II listed, recognised for its bold mid-century design and clean lines that reflect the modernist movement of the time. While the structure remains architecturally significant, parts of the building — including its rooflights — were in need of careful restoration to meet current performance standards.
As part of a wider programme of upgrades at the station, a total of 27 bespoke pyramid rooflights were installed, all glazed with 25mm multiwall polycarbonate — a durable, non-fragile material that offers superior safety performance while maintaining excellent light transmission. The new rooflights replace older units which had deteriorated over time and no longer provided sufficient natural lighting for the station concourse.
Working collaboratively with Jamieson Contracting, Twinfix supplied and manufactured a tailored rooflight system that not only met the structural and safety requirements of the site but also delivered a significant improvement to the station’s overall environment. The increased daylight now filtering through the concourse enhances visibility, creates a more welcoming atmosphere for passengers, and contributes to energy efficiency by reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
The project aligns with Coventry Station’s wider efforts to improve the passenger journey and modernise infrastructure without compromising on architectural integrity. The sleek pyramid-style rooflights provide a contemporary design element while remaining sympathetic to the station’s mid-century character.
Vicky Evans, Director at Twinfix, commented:
“We are delighted to have supported Jamieson Contracting on this important refurbishment at Coventry Station. Our non-fragile polycarbonate rooflight system provides a safe, sustainable, and visually impactful solution – one that improves both the day-to-day experience for passengers and the long-term performance of the building itself.”
