OVERVIEW
46-47 Grange Walk is a new apartment building in Bermondsey, London.
Additional brickwork had been constructed using bricks of a different type due to supply issues, KEIM were initially contacted by Brick Tinting Solutions Limited to see if they had a solution to match the new and existing bricks.
Nicola Young, Colourist from KEIM Mineral Paints, met with J W Hughes Building Contractors Limited in March 2020. A comprehensive specification was produce to lighten the darker bricks that had been used to unify with the existing. KEIM Restauro Lasur was specified to rectify the problem.
The first step was to coat individual bricks in KEIM Restauro Lasur RB026 and K8915 (a bespoke colour), diluted using KEIM Restauro Fixativ, to mimic the variation of natural brickwork.
The second step was to partially apply KEIM Restauro Lasur K8916 (a bespoke colour), diluted using KEIM Restauro Fixativ to 50% of the total brickwork.
The next step was to apply an undiluted coat of KEIM Restauro Lasur K8917 (a bespoke colour, which is a dark colour than the bases), stippled onto approximately 50% of the total brickwork using a fairly dry brush and the back of the brush. This 50% was not the same as the 50% selected for Step 2.
The final step involved applying an undiluted coat of KEIM Restauro Lasur K8918 (a bespoke colour, which is a grey/green algal colour) to approximately 10% of the total brickwork. Onto approximately 30% of the total brickwork, KEIM Restauro Lasur K8918 diluted with KEIM Restauro Fixativ was used. The application of this colour was to imitate the organic growth of the adjacent brickwork.
