Sustainability overview

Sustainability is at the core of Oscar Acoustics’ operations. The SonaSpray range, made from rapidly renewable resources that sequester carbon, exemplifies the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible building solutions.

Oscar Acoustics achieved ISO 14001 accreditation in 2020 and has been carbon neutral since 2023. Working with Positive Planet, the company has established science-based targets to guide emissions reductions in line with climate science. Since 2023, total company emissions have been reduced by 35.37% from the baseline year.

In addition to reducing absolute emissions, Oscar Acoustics invests in world-leading carbon capture programmes through Climate Trade to offset independently measured emissions across all operations, including transportation. The company focuses on impact over certification, maintaining a focus on real environmental outcomes rather than reliance on offsets alone.

The Oscar Innovation Centre, the company’s headquarters, has been awarded the Green Plaque and achieved an A+ EPC rating, assessed as net-zero CO₂ emissions at project completion.

SonaSpray Environmental Credentials

The SonaSpray range contributes to some of the world’s most rigorous sustainable building and wellbeing standards:

  • Supports BREEAM, SKA, LEED, and Living Building Challenge certifications.
  • M1 Classified as Low-Emitting Building Materials — the highest achievable standard.
  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified for indoor air quality, ensuring low VOC emissions and compliance with BREEAM HEA standards.
  • Covered by ISO 14025 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
  • Cradle to Cradle certified.
  • Contribute to many features under the WELL Building Standard®, which measures attributes impacting occupant health.

Made from fire-treated, recycled paper and other rapidly renewable resources, SonaSpray finishes sequester carbon for the life of the building, helping to reduce the overall project carbon footprint.

These environmental credentials have led to SonaSpray being specified in some of the UK’s most sustainable projects, including the Enterprise Centre at the University of East Anglia.
