College Lawn, Cheltenham

College Lawn is a Grade II listed detached, Georgian town house located near the town centre of Cheltenham.

The original paintwork was crazing and delaminating in some sections, it was particularly noticeable on the side elevations and top corners of the building. The base was damp and showing frost damage, which was most likely due to the older blue gloss plastic paint, which had trapped in moisture over several years.

The old cement rendered areas along with the conventional paint that contained plastic were removed, revealing the crazed and original broken render. A small, design-led architectural practice based in Cheltenham, Arkipad Architects, recommended a shelter coat using lime based Roman Cement over these sections. The repairs and sponging of the shelter coat render were carried out by ampm construction.

s, Les Copstake of LPC Painting and GAMA Decorative Services applied KEIM Soldalit Fixativ onto the exposed lime render to equalise the absorbency of the substrate. KEIM Soldalit Grob acts as a bridging coat and help even out surface depth difference, cover hairline cracks and unify the texture to all the walls where repairs have been made. This was then followed by a two-coat application of KEIM Soldalit ME paint system to keep the house fully protected.
